I know this seems odd for a teen to be watching this however I have a few years left in school and we were going over different insurances and things like that. This was very helpful and it helped me understand some misunderstood things.

Some of them seem so similar! I was shocked dental and vision insurance weren’t under the “need” category. I’ve needed so much dental work in my 31 years and I take good care of my teeth!

Some people only need cleanings twice a year and never need work. It that case, dental insurance is a rip off. Most dentist give a discount if you don't file insurance.

@@dougprentice1363 saying insurance that goes unused is a “rip off” is nonsense. We hope to not have to use any kind of insurance, but we still pay it for peace of mind and that makes it worth it. Furthermore, even if we didn’t need dental work, the teeth cleanings being covered twice a year by insurance means we’re using it.

Those dentist “free cleaning and discount plans” are what’s a rip off. $299-$399 a year for a no cost exam and 1 cleaning, plus 25% off anything else is a joke. Most dental insurance premiums cost that much and give you 2 cleanings and exam at no cost, plus 50-80% of the following procedures (up to a limit).

Also make sure you keep your receipts for all of your purchases. I had a flooding incident and I lost out on money because I couldn't provide receipts for everything.

Great presentation and good information. Auto insurance could be broken into liability (required by the state) and collision (may not be necessary on older or paid for vehicles).

That's what I'm debating. I've never been at fault in an accident, where I would have needed collision insurance. Just paid off car. Thinking of cancelling and only keeping liability.

What about valuable personal property insurance (wedding rings, camera lenses, etc)? Critical illness insurance? Home appliance warranty?

If your employer offers AD&D insurance go ahead and take it. It’s super cheap usually under 20 bucks. Yes, it is small chance of death by accident but it does happen.

Question. If Alzheimer’s runs in our family (both sides) when would you recommend thinking about long term care insurance? Is it better to try and invest in that sooner than later or would you recommend starting that at age 60 like mentioned?

With all do respect... Accidental Insurance is a MUST for a LOT of people. People who can not qualify for term or for whole life as well would need some type of life insurance plan and this is where accidental life insurance comes into play. It cost a lot cheaper than most insurance plans and you can get the full death benefit if something were to happen to you in "Any" kind of an accident whether that be a wreck, falling off your roof or any other kind of accident. Again, only those who do not qualify for term or whole life insurance NEED this type of insurance to protect their love ones.

If you have no heirs or family or if you have enough wealth you don’t need life insurance.

Yes! My mom moved into my grandfather's house and thank God we had termite insurance. They started blowing out of the walls.

Makes the same mistake as Dave. Assumes that every person is married, working and doesn’t have millions in savings. Of the 6, I have homeowners, health and auto (liability only). For everything else, I’m self insured.
