しゅくだい(shukudai) if you don't do your homework. Never used that word in the 8 years since I learned it, but I still remember it because of this person on memrise's dumb mnemonic lol
Well, since my first language is portuguese, maybe this wont make sense in english, but in order to memorize some chinese (wasnt actually chinese, but i dont know how you call “catalao” in english, so... i guess chinese is close enough) words for my kung fu test i had to made some weird associations. For example: Til Key Ma, in portuguese sounds as something like “uncle burn”. Key Long Ma, that stands for Crossed Dragon, as “Ma” sounds similar to “sea” in portuguese, i used to figure a dragon flying over the sea - so i could remember which one was that, and also the chinese name for it.
I like when you do something hard and challenging for a long time without giving up, I want to be like you! Thanks for teaching, it helps me memorize a lot of things for school!
SOS. Grab a Routledge frequency dictionary! That is a dictionary where you learn vocabulary from most commonly to least commonly used words. To give you an example the first words of every language are: the, me, mine, take, you, over, jump, give, .... and then it gets to words like learn, somehow, after, drive, meet. This is the most economical way to learn a language, and I really don't know why people choose vocabulary based on a theme! However it is harder to memorize verbs, and once you need some practise. Even if you find a youtuber that you enjoy, you still need the time to sit down and watch them.
Great video, I saw Netflix documentary regarding memory where you mentioned your RU-vid channel. Just became a fan. In this era of info and data we just don't know where to find the real valuable information. I just feeled like found a treasure. I have just started learning deutsch and your tips are just MIND blowing. Just subscribed. 😊
Thank you!!! Question what about memorizing grammar like simple words.and how do u memorize conjunctions of different verbs? Can you please do a video.
Believe it or not, not once have I used memory palaces for this challenge. Just some word association and a lot of review. Anki is a great tool, definitely!
Can i ask you something? All this methods are incredible but they all need a lot of time to create the "connection" between what you want to memorize and the "path" to do so. Is there a faster way to create those connections? For example in my work i need to keep in mind lot of information that i read in very short time.
Hi Nelson, thanks for guiding. Just wanted a small advice:- I am looking forward to building a 1000 items memory palace so that I can attach my vocabulary to it and use it quickly.? Cheers!!!
Instead of focusing on words, why not focus on patterns which convey feelings in language. Vocabulary alone rarely expresses any feelings. People will often complain about not being able to express themselves even after spending a while studying language. What they're saying is that they can't express their feelings properly. Focus on patterns rather than vocabulary and you will get farther faster.
I just tried to Learn "sinasapplesap", but I imagined two lover caught in bedroom saying seen us and they have an apple on the bedside with a frog (sapo is frog in Spanish), and the frog jumps into a orange juice glass.
Aquí un hispanohablante, afortunadamente nosotros tenemos a Ramón Campayo (7 veces campeón mundial de memorización) lee sus libros, es de lo mejor que hay.
Thanks a lot for your advices, my question is, how learn verbs, because your examples are all about sustantives. Maybe trying to link to sustantives? For example I learn today the word "utterances" for me is wierd and is a verb, and in spanish is declaraciones, how do you do It?
small words being milked from a cow's udder.. see the small words coming from the udder.. just make some association between the meaning, and an image that reminds you of the sounds.
Hmmm, I reckon you could go and live in Amsterdam for 10 years and never ever need to know the words for ladybird, ostrich, spider etc (unless you became a zookeeper!). Seems like the Drops app doesn't prioritise vocab choice very well :)
I would like to ask you to learn a language you probably never heard of It's a South African language called Afrikaans it is almost like Dutch so u won't probably have a problem Can u please do a video of Afrikaans
