The thing I love about this musical is Jeremy Jordan basically looked at the sheet music, said "okay, cool, but what if.." and added a bunch of high notes and riffs JUST to show off.
not even just to show off, but to escape the repetitiveness of the melody. "Raise a Little Hell" is so repetitive in the sheet music, but Jeremy found a lot to work with within the chords
The foreshadowing in this song though. "This is how I wanna live, I wanna die." Bonnie and Clyde were ambushed and killed IN A CAR when they were driving in Louisiana.
A Ford V8, no less, which was Clyde's favorite make and was the fastest care on the road at the time. He even wrote a letter of appreciation to Henry Ford, which now hangs in the Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
Jackson Jones Indeed it is! And he was pretty good at driving (except when he and Bonnie had an accident and Bonnie was very badly burned by battery acid.)
What a song! Even if you don't dig this show or tune, respect these men - especially Jeremy Jordan! This is one of the coolest and most exceptional vocal performances I've ever heard. Those who gave this a 'thumbs down' have no respect for a couple dudes SINGING THEIR ASSES OFF!
I'm still waiting to overcome my panic attacks when I practice driving 😅 I've had my learners permit for over a year and I still haven't taken my test yet because I cry every time I drive. I have to listen to this song to hype me up.
Lyrics Ain't no car to smart for me Got the whole thing figured out Two door, hard top, model-t Limousine or runabout Put me behind the wheel and stand well back Like a cracker jack I'll get your heart pumping Ain't no car that you can't drive I would bet my life on that Hot rod, roadster, pickup truck 40 miles in nothing flat Ain't nothing better than a drive through town With the pedal down Watch the old folk jumpin' When I drive When I drive I'm in love, I'm alive And I forget about everything I hate When I drive When I drive I can read 65 I won't pay the long, long line They'll always be behind And man that just feels great Hey look there's danger up ahead Here comes a curb Will you stop tugging at my sleeve Just hold your nerve Give me a full tank and an open road And watch me explode Look at me I'm drivin'! When I dirve When I drive I'm in love, I'm alive And I forget about everything I hate When you drive When you drive Life just flies when you drive We are the heroes who The people look up to And brother that feels great I can float I can float I can fly I can fly This is how This is how I wanna live, I wanna die I'm in love I'm in love I'm alive I'm alive When I drive
This song not only fits Clyde Barrow well, but it also does other heroes/villains such as Niko Bellic, Johnny Klebitz, Luis Fernando Lopez, Tommy Vercetti, and Claude from the GTA series! 😎
Will you stop tugging at my sleeve Just hold your nerve give me a full tank and an open road and watch me explode Look at me I'm drivin'! When I dirve When I drive I'm in love, I'm alive and I forget about everything I hate BUCK: When you drive When you drive Life just flies when you drive BOTH: We are the heroes who The people look up to And brother that feels great CLYDE: I can float BUCK: I can float CLYDE: I can fly BUCK: I can fly CLYDE: This is how BUCK: This is how BOTH: I wanna live, I wanna die BUCK: I'm in love CLYDE: I'm in love BUCK: I'm alive CLYDE: I'm alive BOTH: When I drive
Makes me think of ‘Greased Lightning’......I love ‘Grease’ but sometimes I think about the ‘T-Birds’, the ‘Pink Ladies’ and ‘The Scorpions’ and when you compare them to Clyde Barrow, even at this stage in his life and I just think ‘poseuers’.

OMG, I literally told my parents the same freaking thing! And my mom said good choice! We have an agreement that this will be the first song I play when I drive my first car, because man, that just feels great. I can’t float, I can’t fly!
"Life just flies when you drive!" Lol, in a fun "feeling alive and exhilarated" type of flying? Or in a "I see my life flashing before my eyes" sort of way? XD
