Hi, thank you so much for this video. There are other tools that could make your life easier when developing with Wordpress: Sage roots.io/sage/ WordPress starter theme with a modern development workflow Bedrock roots.io/bedrock/ WordPress boilerplate with modern development tools, easier configuration, and an improved folder structure Trellis roots.io/trellis/ WordPress development and production servers done right Acorn roots.io/acorn/ WordPress plugin building framework Clover roots.io/clover/ WordPress plugin boilerplate with a modern development workflow
Thanks for video. I want to make a custom style plugin. It will allow change body, left menu, and top menu by switch radio buttons. Like it realized in the profile section, where we can change color theme. But I am disappointed with AJAX. Can you help me with advice. I am looking just for simplicity solution.
I cannot recommend PHPStorm enough for full project work. VS Code is great for quick edits. Being able to view and manage everything in one place, database, remote server, terminal, git, setting up hooks for sass, etc. is so extremely useful. The fee is high, but they reduce it each year you have it. For me it's $45/year at this point and well worth much more. It's a joy to work in
PHPStorm is superior to VSC, no matter if you are coding in php, js, or ts. I recently switched to VSC for Angular and Typescript, but oh boy I miss the robustness of PHPStorm. Even for TypeScript is like million times better than VSC. the auto-detect of unused methods, localhistory, refactoring, clipboard history, merge conflict panel... are just brilliant features.
PHPStorm is worth it. VSC is great for sure, but PHPStorm is so fully featured out of the box. I tend to have vsc installed as well for quick file opens or basic editing/referencing of files, but it's a fantastic alternative with no price tag
Thanks for this. I'm looking forward to checking out your entire stream. I've been developing websites since 1995 (guess my age) but only superficially. I'm now building themes (slowly) and your videos really help. About to watch the 6 things I wish I knew before I started developing. ;) - always learning...
Awesome! 2 questions/requests ...(1) can you plz tell us good PHP extensions to use with VSCode (esp, that will do auto code formatting, etc.)? (2) Can you plz make a series on Docker + WP and talk about some use cases that you normally do or wish to do ... Plenty of thanx in advance ... The stuff you're doing with WP are hard to find ... also hoping for a CRUD App using WP + GraphQL + React ... too much? Sorry, you already spoiled us ... plz, do some more ...

Hello, nice tips. I installed Local today but cannot create any sites. It throws me the following errors: Unable to provision site. Error:Error Command failed. /opt/Local/resources/extraResources/lightning-services/mysql-8.0.16+5/bin/linux/bin/mysqladmin --password=ping. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04. I can connect to MySQL, I have other test sites running on my localhost machine. Any ideas?
i have a live site - and since i just got local - i want to download my live site to local - with all its data and tweaks etc - and start tinkering with it in Local Flywheel - how can i copy the site from live to local - are there any plugins or tools for that - and if in future i want to do it the other way - upload the tweaks to the website - how do i do that - i prefer free tools - pls recommend. Thank you very much
So... every legendary developer needs an MAC OS? Here in Brazil its far to expensive to a beginner... R$: 6.000 the cheapest (about 1,200 $, but its harder to earn money here in Brazil)
E aí Josué, já conseguiu comprar teu MAC OS? Seguinte, não consegui criar site nesse software Local. Ele dá um erro de conexão com o MySQL. Vc usa o Local?
Local by Flywheel is buggy as hell. I've seen it recommended a few places and it sounds like a great tool, but on windows at least, it is horrid. You fight with it to get a site pulled, make a change, and then watch it blow up when it's pushed to your server. Support is nearly non-existent, I've waited weeks to get a reply on issues I've encountered. When it does work, it's super slow compared to mamp, xamp, laragon. I would chalk it up to weird system settings but I've installed it 5 separate times on 2 different machines - it's just bad. At least it is free, so hopefully future updates will fix it.
@@kevinsedwards I did get it to work, but literally required reinstalling windows and only installing Local in the default location. They've since been out based by FlyWheel so support has probably changed, but I gave up on attempting to use it. It was just far too slow to use. Laragon portable is much better, but doesn't have the automatic download upload, so that still has to be manual. At least it works!
