0:00 - Intro
Bad:
0:38 - FWD only, no AWD
This has been a staple of the Accord since the beginning, but rivals like the Camry and others are offering AWD and they’ve managed to do it without making significant fuel economy sacrifices
In a world where everyone is convinced they need AWD..around me anyway..should Honda offer an AWD Accord?
1:05 - no PHEV (dinged the CRV for this)
I’m not sure why, but for whatever reason I have less expectation that an Accord would be offered with a PHEV
1:31 - no more sporty 2.0T
In the past you’ve been able to get a properly punchy 2.0T Sport model Accord which which honest to god quick
That old Sport’s 2.0T put out over 250 hp and almost 275 lbft
Now the Accord tops out at 204 hp and 247 lbft
2:13 - no pano roof
This one is pretty cut and dry - you’ve got hyundai over here offering a Pano roof in their sonata for years now and it’s still not an option on the Accord no matter how much money you spend
2:31 - no 360 camera
Another strange omission from a new generation of car in 2023 is no option for a 360 camera
We saw this on the CRV as well - however the new Pilot gets a 360 camera option and it’s top-down view is really nice
3:00 - looks boring
The car just looks kinda bland, especially from it’s more expressive look last year
The front is comprised of a fairly plain hexagonal grille
In some trims you will get silver accent pieces for your lower fascia for aero
Your headlights are LED and your DRLs are simple Bars
Around the side you cansee how long the hood is
Each trim gets a specific wheel - we have 17s for EXL but you can get 19s
There’s one hard body line down the belt but that’s the most going on
You do have tapered sportback type roofline, but not hatch here
And then around back you have an ALMOST full width LED tailbar
There’s a small Honda H in the center
You can get a molded lip spoiler and there are no exhaust ports
-
Good:
4:34 - The driving experience
You have enough power from the 2.0 hybrid system
204 hp and 247 lbft 0-60 in the low 7 second range
Your eCVT simulates gears in a familiar way while being smooth
The steering is light enough to be relaxing while still having a direct and responsive feel
The suspension isn’t adaptive, but the damper tuning makes for a really soft and supple ride
And the cabin is quiet and refined to a surprising degree given the price point here
5:45 - The efficiency (over engine)
There’s a button in the cabin here where you can switch into EV mode
Outside that, when the gas engine kicks in and you’re driving normally you’ll get 48 mpg combined from this EXL due to the 17 inch wheels
Cars with the 19 inch wheels will get 44 mpg combined so keep that in mind
6:29 - Interior design and screens
I particularly like the full width honeycomb vents - they make me think of Audis
I also like that you still get physical controls for your climate
And then we talk screens and you can get big ones
In the top Touring trim you can get a massive 12.3 inch infotainment scree
That screen will come with wireless car play and android auto AND google built in
You’ve also got hybrid power deployment readouts and a physical volume knob
And then there’s the gauge cluster
It’s a 10.2 inch completely digital cluster no matter what trim (wont get that on CRV)
In the cluster you can even see your navigation..again very Audi
You also have a HUD option
And you can get a wireless charger given the right trim
7:38 - Luxuries and comforts
The Accord may not be classified as a luxury car, but you still get some really nice stuff in here to make any commute super comfortable
On top-spec touring trims you’ll get things like heated AND cooled seats
You can can also get heated seats in the rear
8:03 - Rear seats are huge
The car itself is 2.3 inches longer than last year making it longer than Camry and Sonata
8:38 - Trunk is huge
9:05 - Price is great
The Accord starts around 27,300 for the non-hybrid
And you’re getting a great platform at that price
And then all the way topped out in the hybrid Touring trim
You’ll spend just under 38k
And at that price you’ve got a modern, well equipped, excellent riding car
9:50 - Outro

You'd ding this because it isn't REQUIRED to plug in, and is able to RECHARGE ITSELF running only on gas?!?! Your priorities are backwards. Most people don't want to plug their car in for anything longer than three minutes at a gas pump and be done with it. That's the attraction of this car, it's not a detractor.

204/247? Plenty. No panoramic roof? Could care less. I wish auto reviewers, in general, would realize the bulk of the buying market is NOT at the loaded end. As well, styling is entirely subjective. Sorry Matt, but I think some of your criticisms are off base. The pros are good. I still think the Accord is a solid, winning pick in its segment. Thanks. Chris.

Ya man I hate the panoramic roof always being used as a negative by car reviewers. I see it as one less problem. The amount of heat those let in here in Texas during the summer can be pretty harsh not to mention for a while Toyota had a problem with them shattering.
@marksimonds13

Agree 100% - panoramic roofs are severely over rated. Also - many reviewers (including this video) are hung up on the loss of the 2.0T and "how Plain Jane the car looks now". If you look at the demographics of who's buying this car, (a recent study by the Hedges Company) you would see almost 50% of Accord buyers are over 55 years old. So for us "older folks" this is a very nice car.

I have a 2023 CRV Sport Touring hybrid, following my 2020 Touring Accord. The AC in my CRV, even when I have it in Economy mode, is incredibly efficient, so I don't miss the ventilated seats in the black leather interior like I thought I would. But I DO miss the HUD, because I'm the King of Lost and enjoyed having the compass in constant view. On the other hand, the greatly superior ease of getting in and out with arthritic knees is an enormous plus for the CRV, which is the most refined Honda I've had, after 7 high end Accords on lease. I assume the new Accord Touring is just as refined, with greatly reduced road noise as in the CRV. AWD has come in handy during one very snowy week we had in January...it + the Snow mode worked better than I expected.

I just finished my 7th consecutive lease of a high end Accord, the most recent being a 2020 Touring edition...5 V6s and 2 2L/10 AT drivetrains, all great...and fast. But when Accord added 2.7" of superfluous length, that ended my Accord run, as it's now too long for my garage. I think the new edition added a small bit of legroom to an already-huge back seat. The trunk, by the way, is identical to the previous edition: 16.7 cu ft, it's not larger as suggested in this review. So, I ended up leasing the slightly pricier CRV Sport Touring edition, and I'm delighted. I would guess the CRV is about .4 or.5 sec slower than the Accord, but it's NOT slow. Excellent torque off the line, shockingly little body roll and good cornering, and it's the quietest Honda I've had (I assume the new Accord hybrid is just as quiet), with less road noise on coarse road surfaces than my previous Accord. Also, the CRV Sport Touring edition is quieter than all the other CRVs due to more sound deadening and acoustically lined windshield and side window glass. I sat in 3 unlocked Accords Sunday at my Honda dealer. It may be unfair, since those Accords had not yet been detailed and prepped, but the interior of my ST CRV looked nicer. Even the honeycombed grill on the dash looked better. The drivetrains are virtually identical, excepting my CRV is AWD, not FWD. Same 204/247 numbers. Ride is generally serene, drivetrain is more responsive than I'd expected, ergonomics are Honda fine, fairly similar to Accord, with the same high end Bose sound system...best ever in a Honda. The biggest plus for an old dude like me is the perfect seat height in the CRV...just right. My stiff knees really hurt getting in and out of the otherwise comfortable Accord. If I didn't know better, I'd say the 2023 Accord front seats felt even lower than my 2020, but I could be imagining that after enjoying 3 weeks of superior comfort in my CRV. Two annoyances: no HUD and no ventilated seats, as I had in my Accord Touring. Inexcusable at this price point. But I DO have a heated steering wheel. In any case, all things considered, I suffered zero buyers/leasers remorse after sitting in those Accords. I'm glad I got the high end CRV, and definitely like it better than I do the Accord. By the way, subjectively, the front end of the S.T. CRV looks WAY better and more aggressive than the muted Accord grill, and my dark very metallic blue CRV has been a head-turner in the Wegmans parking lot, not that I really care about impressing others. By the way, if you have kids and car seats, the CRV is definitely the better choice, since rear doors open to near 90 degrees, and the back seat is very large and accessible (also reclines to 8 different positions). If the Accord hadn't gone longer, I probably would have gladly gotten another Touring edition..but then I wouldn't have known what I was missing! PS: I always thought a heated steering wheel sounded almost trivial. The CRV Sport Touring has one, and now that's we're into colder weather, I have to say it's great!

My sister wanted the Accord hybrid so in March I went with her to the dealership to test drive one in Raleigh, NC. I sat in the back while she test drove the Accord- neither of us were impressed. When I suggested she test drive the CR-V hybrid, she was hesitant, as her hopes were set on the Accord, but she agreed. The CR-V is now sitting in her garage. She loves everything about it, except one thing- no Sirius/XM integration (but she canceled her subscription anyway and uses the bluetooth). I love the CR-V hybrid, too, but I require a pano roof.

The only whiff on the CRV seems to be (for me), the lame 1,000 lb towing capacity. I'm in the market to replace my '14 Forester XT, and it tows 1500 (unless the XT tows more, and I didn't get the memo). But it feels like the CRV should be called a SuV (lower case "U" due to lower utility). So, I'm actually toying with getting a sedan for my wife to daily drive, and keep the Forester for occasional lighter towing (short distance), and snow days.(Rather than giving up towing capacity with a CRV). The Accord Touring is on the list, but some things that they left off are starting to deter me. Night lighting (another video - "MikesCars or something did a night drive) is disappointing (no puddle lights, fog lights) and they don't include a compact spare (we don't all live in metro areas). Fortunately, I'm not in a hurry. There isa lot to like about the Accord, but I'll definitely gawk at the CRV Sport Touring. Maybe I'll just make a few extra trips to the yard waste place and load my trailer lighter. Thanks a bunch for all your insights and comparisons. My gripes may seem small to some, but we're at that point in life where we do want something a little nicer with some nice features. Noise reduction is something we'd like now, after a lifetime of noisy cars. Small stuff that seems trivial, is not trivial when you no longer have it. My Forester has puddle lights, which are great for approaching at night (I guess the Accord exterior lights come on(?) when you unlock, so maybe that is fine). I also have HomeLink, so garage door opening is integrated into the rearview mirror. Sounds trivial, but no worries about someone swiping your opener from the parked car and getting into your garage. A friendr has a E-Class Mercedes (2019) and they didn't end up with this. I drive it on occasion, and now find it really clunky to have the clip on opener. My 1998 Accord LX had small courtesy lights on the lower part of all 4 doors. The current gen doesn't. Of course, vast improvement since then in many areas, but it always felt like if you bought an Accord, you could trust them to surprise you with all the nice little touches that you hadn't even thought of. Yeah, the length has gotten wild. Not sure how much leg room is really necessary back there, but I like the more upscale refinement/ flavor (and a bit of extra crashworthyness) of the Accord over the Civic. There was also a time when it was cheaper to insure an Accord than a Civic. (Maybe the driver demographic was a driving force. Stodgy "old people" driving Accords fewer miles with generally better claim rates.)

@@scottanthony3426 Small point, scott. On my 2018 and 2020 Accords, the fog lights had become superfluous, adding virtually nothing to the LED headlights, especially in my 2020 Accord Touring. I'd switch them on and off in my driveway, and you could barely tell they were on, if at all. My wife has a big Wrangler Willys 4exe (a pig, if you ask me), but it does out it does any towing we need to do.

@@donpaulweatherpluspaul2670 Thanks for that info. Yes, I got the optional fog lights on my Forester XT, and while they help (wider beam, a little more light), they are underwhelming. Ditto on my BRZ. I have always wondered if they just put half baked fog lights on, or if the headlights have just gotten so much better, that there is not the huge gap like there was in the old days. I had an early 80's Accord, and put some Cibe fog lights on (clear). I think they had laser cut glass lenses, and some kind of bright bulbs. They were far superior to the OEM incandescents of the era. But, realizing that being my age means eyes just don't do as well adapting to dark, I'm looking for every advantage, without becoming a blinding hazard for on-coming.

Fuel efficiency and hopefully reliability is the main reason I bought it. Over the first 1000 miles I'm averaging 47 mpg! There are a few things I don't like. The fact that the passenger seat in the Touring trim lacks a height adjustment is a big ding for me and my passengers, most of whom are 60+. It sits way too low. Just bought (last week) the EX-L version. Was planning to get the Touring, as I wanted the Bose speakers, but that wasn't a 'must-have' feature. Neither was the head-up display. Nice, but not a dealbreaker if it's not there. I couldn't care less about ventilated seats. I mean, it'd be nice on those hot days here in SoCal, but I've never had a car that had them. My mom has it in her Lincoln, but says she's never needed to use it. Heated seats? Heated steering wheel? We're in Southern California. No need for heated anything here. This isn't Chicago or Buffalo. Since the EX-L is, if you take away the four of five features unique to the Touring model, the exact same car as is the Touring. Only other difference is the 17" wheels, which reward you with slightly improved MPG. Again, I was going for the Touring, initially, but couldn't get the payments down low enough to make it work for me. Decided to go with the EX-L. Have had it for just one week, and am VERY happy with it. Thought I wanted a CR-V, but am glad I didn't go that direction.

Compared to last generation's car, I think Honda missed the mark with styling. It is plain. I like an understated look as much as the next person but this isnt a sleeper car. It's just plain sleeping. There's no pizzazz. Even understated looking cars have something to make them stand out. This ain't understated. It's undercooked. Invisible. They Cena'd it but not in a good way. The interior is classed up. An improvement over the last gen. Better ergonomics. Cleaner. If you just want a point and shoot camera, Accord is always on the short list. They're good like that. But if you want your point and shoot to look good while doing it, this ain't it. They took a step back. On the Civic, it works. Stretched out on the Accord: it's missing something. They took away what was eye catching with the last gen and didnt even bother replacing it with something just as good.

Gary. I thought exactly the same thing when I took delivery of my new Touring model. I thought they were always supposed to have the valve stem and the red dot aligned. The no sporty 2.0T is whatever to me. I bought it for reliability and gas. From my understanding the Accord was originally created as a family sedan focus, not a sporty car. Other things missing: Fog lights. A compact spare. I agree on the 6 whiffs. Time for the bird's eye camera/360 view. Especially by the time you get the touring. Just watched a video on driving at night, and they cut corners there (rear seat, doors, puddle lights) that are disappointing to not have in the higher trim levels. I had a '98 LX, and it had little lights in the lower door panels on all 4 doors. This generation does not. I guess they are counting on daytime test drives. It always felt like you could count on the old Accords to have those thoughtful touches. Now too many Accountants involved.

I had a choice last may of either the Camry or the Accord. I looked at both and went with the Accord EX (Platinum White). Why? For one, I have been a Honda lover for decades, so there is some bias. On the Camry, I did not like the interior styling. The cockpit felt cramped. I could not get past that "S" divider weaving down the middle of the console. I'm a big guy, so I need that space. Also, I don't like the front end of the Camry. It seems too busy. I did not care for the nose on the Accord, but its simpler, look was more appealing, and I got used to it over time. Because the 11th Gen is still fairly new, I still get people asking me what it is. During Car Week at Monterey back in August, I only saw ONE other 11th Gen (Gray). If they didn't see the badges, they were trying to figure it out. People may not understand the CVT. I didn't understand it either, until I drove from Northern California to Las Vegas. NOW I get what they were aiming for. For touring, It's the Accord all day!

My husband currently has a 2020 Accord Touring 2.0T -- lease is up and we are taking delivery this week of a ...... 2023 Camry XLE AWD!! Why not another Accord? Two reasons: most important reason is that at 6'3" he cannot fit into the shrunken driver's space of the redesigned Accord. Yes, as they made the Touring a hybrid now, the power seat tracks have been reduced by 2 inches to make room for the hybrid's batteries under the car's floorboard. Therefore, his legroom is too short for his tall frame. Second reason, the price. Over $42K for the car (Honda dealers won't stop at MSRP, as they will add "dealer fees" on top of the cost). Oh, and since our local Toyota dealership also has an out of state Honda dealership, they will take our current Accord and we won't have to pay any out of pocket costs to replaced scratched wheels and damaged tires. Saves us $2000 AND they will give us more $$$ for trade in value than the local Honda dealerships. Even with all this, the Camry (AWD, not available on Accord) XLE will cost us about $6K LESS than Accord. Now, we're Toyota drivers (I drive a Hyundai Kona, but won't lease another).
@jasonototheo
@jasonototheo Год назад
I just bought an accord touring at under MSRP and without dealer accessories You can find cars at MSRP or below you just have to be willing to put a lot of effort in lol. Also, yes the Camry isn't as expensive, but the interior is incredibly outdated and not as refined as the new accords are. Lane assist on the Camrys, I found, on the test drive to be not as effective or subtle as in the new Prius of accord, as it's an older Lane assist technology. Although the absence of AWD is less the ideal on the accord I think the price difference between the XLE and an updated accord is justified and makes sense. I think we'll see a price increase in the redesigned 2024 Camry that makes it comparable with the price of the accord..... Your husband not fitting in the car makes total sense to get the Camry though. Enjoy the car! It wasn't for me but it is a great car!
