60 Minutes, the most successful American television broadcast in history, began its 52nd season in September. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 is still a hit in 2020. 60 Minutes makes Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 nearly every week and was the #1 weekly television broadcast three times last season.
The program still averages more than 10 million viewers, more than double the audience of its nearest network news magazine competitor. The average audience for a 60 Minutes broadcast is 150% higher than those of the network morning news programs; the audience dwarfs the number of viewers drawn by the most popular cable news programs.
About a million more people listen to the 60 Minutes radio simulcast in several major cities and on its companion podcast. Tens of thousands each week experience 60 Minutes online. The broadcast’s segments can be watched at 60Minutes.com and on the CBS All Access app. Its webcast, 60MinutesOvertime.com, offers content originally produced for the web, including behind-the-scenes video about the production of 60 Minutes stories and timely archival segments.
60 Minutes has won every major broadcast award. Its 25 Peabody and 150 Emmy awards are the most won by any single news program. It has also won 20 duPont-Columbia University journalism awards. Other distinguished journalism honors won multiple times include the George Polk, RTDNA Edward R. Murrow, Investigative Reporters and Editors, RFK Journalism, Sigma Delta Chi and Gerald Loeb awards.
60 Minutes premiered on CBS September 24, 1968. Bill Owens is the program’s executive producer. The correspondents and contributors of 60 Minutes are Sharyn Alfonsi, Anderson Cooper, John Dickerson, Norah O’Donnell, Scott Pelley, Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and L. Jon Wertheim.

I laughed and joked about this interview 7 years ago and now I realize how foolish I was as this was indeed a great interview. Both sides demonstrated respect and thrived on the mutual aim of diminishing misunderstanding between people of the two nations. Not to mention that Mr.Wallace threw out difficult yet valued questions which made the interview worth watching. Time has gone and quality conversations like this are so hard to find on conventional medias (if there's any). My respect to 江主席 and Mr.Wallace.

Wallace was candid about his views, but his finger pointing was offensive. Like many, he really could not comprehend the underlying philosophies and realities about life and politics of a very different culture. And like many, his unwarranted sense of superiority, prevented him from at least trying to understand or acknowledge counter-points which the former President was trying to explain. No wonder Sino-American relations have been difficult.

when the interviewer did this interview, I can not find any intention for him to try to understand china as you can easily see from the arrogant attitude. this is common sense. if two person have a discuss with mutual respect, then they are trying to understand each other. so clearly there is a mission behind it why the interviewer tries every means to diminish Presedant. Jiang. To show off his or american's superiority, that's it, so simple. Nothing but show off typical american arrogance. After 22 years, you can tell how hypocritical american are. where is human right when people protest on wallstreet, and the police use violence against them. why suddenly Trump was blocked from the whole internet, where is freedom speech? the examples are countless. the old saying never goes outdated, that a man speaks value all the time, he is counting business all the time. its true for capitalism, dont forget capitalism literally means captial is above everything. value is nothing infront of captial.

Let me answer. At that time, there were two factions of the Chinese Communist Party, one reformist conservative, the other reformist radical. It went on for days when China had no police security equipment, only the military. Students were not killed, and soldiers were killed by spies who mingled with the crowd. To incite bloodshed. The United States, Hong Kong and Taiwan are behind the event. If troops are not mobilized, China may split. Like the breakup of the Soviet Union, like the Arab Spring.

There is no inconceivable cultural mystique lurking in the shadows & the US's ills stem mostly from its lack of democracy (the Senate which should be abolished, the Electoral College which should be abolished, Gerrymandered districts, irregular & unjust primary rules that allow incumbents to run unopposed, lifetime rather than 12 year SCOTUS terms with 3 judges appointed in the 1st year of each Prez mandate, the ability of states to deprive voting rights to felons (along with a blatantly pay-to-play legal & criminal justice system), private & for-profit prisons, an all pervasive surveillance state where the NSA still in 2024 can watch Americans through their cell phone cameras even when turned off & all their texts (since authorizing programs of project PRISM were never ended but in fact strengthened earlier this year), the fact that elections are sold to the highest bidder, the lack of federally funded education system throgh university level so that all can access the necessary tools to high-level economic & informed political participation, the list goes on and on).

This looks more like an interrogation than an interview. The way Wallace had his arms crossed during most of the interview shows he is not willing to take in whatever Jiang has to say (i.e. not willing to have a conversation). Wallace is just asking questions and he thinks he already knows the answers. Unfortunately, this kind of arrogance is adopted by most of the US politicians/decision-makers as well and really put the US at a disadvantage in a US-China standoff that looks increasingly unavoidable (just think how much China knows about the US vs. the otherway around).

This made me cringe. I'm not sure if the interviewer meant to be inflammatory or not, but he was using some language that I think came across as insulting or highly charged. This tends to be a common problem when people from the US interview people from China. In fact, I've even seen it done on China's national television when American guests are on the shows. I think one of the key things to remember is that there are significant differences in the communication style of Chinese people vs American people. There are also key cultural differences, so I think it's important to keep those in mind in order to keep people comfortable and not cause any distress during the interview. The burden is on the interviewer, not the person being interviewed. And I am going to have to agree with the former president on this one. A lot of Americans misunderstand China's political system. It was one of my research interests when I got my undergraduate degree and there are lots of things even I don't fully understand about Chinese politics and mainstream Chinese culture in general.

China can tolerate a lot, it's persisted in some form or other through the ages. Who knows if China could benefit from regional elections or the like as well? (It works in HK and Taiwan after all). Or maybe not elections but some other form of formal political participation, other than trying to make your way up through the CCP. If the society can factually tolerate more democratic elements is obviously not the immediate concern - of course it could in some way. It is merely the party that deems it more beneficial to its own, and thereby presumably the countries future, and most people nowadays just accept that as true.

NGO organizations and Promote the "tiananmen color revolution" , The US government hopes to turn China into a chaotic country, just like it did with Iraq, Libya and Iraq. Chinese noticed the West used their media as a propaganda tool on the 89 Tian An Men event, the rebel leaders didn't get execute, instead they are living wealthy in the West right now.

Mike Wallace is a stereotypical "American" image that the world hates

Hate? It's the "stereotypical "American" image" that the world loves, but that doesn't exist anymore. How could anyone hate someone like Mike Wallace? -Someone that listens, Someone that understands, Someone that respects, etc. -No greasy fake smile, no interruptions, no dumbness, etc.

I didn't see this originally. I didn't even understand why they were showing it until I read that he had passed. This is an incredible incredible insightful view into the Chinese Communist party 22 years ago. I expect from some point many of the beliefs are still the same and some have changed just as we have our Republican party that was on one track at one time and on a completely different track now. Incredibly insightful conversation that has taught me more about China and I think I even understood.

Xi is basically bringing China back to Mao thinking. Dissent is being crushed without remorse. They are cracking down on LGBTQ big time. They recently issued guidance saying no ‘feminine-acting’ or ‘feminine-looking’ men can be shown on TV. This is in direct reference to what they perceive as K-Pop influence. LGBTQ groups are being silenced harshly. Some cities were beginning to have small pride celebrations in 2019, but there are now none in any city

全面客观辩证的看待江执政,我觉得还是7分功,3分过。总体上,新中国的领导人在大面上还是为群众着想的。有腐败,有私心,有各种各样的问题,但是最终总体上我们经济和生活等物质条件还是要进步的。
