The western part of the Netherlands had a very bad flood in 1953. It was s perfect storm. High tide, Storm and a full moon. My parent had 8 feet of water in the house. Right after, engineers started planning a way to protect the country from the North Sea. Complicated and costly systems were developed to close the waterways when a large storm hits. Being proactive pays off.

I was in Venice back in 1979 about a month after they shot the Clock Tower seen in the movie Moonraker. Back then the streets were flooded and they had elevated walkways up to you could move about somewhat dry. It was nothing new back then, already the first floors of the buildings were half submerged. They built the city on islands in a lagoon and the weight of the buildings over time started sinking the city.

My heart sank when he said cities like LA will face unseen high tides. I’ve already seen it happening with my own eyes. San Pedro and Laguna Beach are being eroded very quickly by the rising water. There was a huge tide that breached from the shore into the streets of Newport Beach in 2020. That night I was walking along the coast of Hermosa beach and, the ocean brightly illuminated by a full moon, saw humongous waves barreling to shore from as far as the eye can see. I’ve never seen the ocean churn the way it did that night in my life. I’m not looking forward to how the ocean will reshape us when I’m an old man

This was not build below sea level. It was built by drilling pilings into the merit swamp below, as its shallow. Then they laid the railings and flooring. A single building was built then others connected to it. The pilings are rotting.
@michellepernula872
@michellepernula872 2 года назад
@@cpgone Totally different. Amsterdam pushed water back, they built dikes with locks and allow channels. They recovered the land to live on by push water back. Venice didn't push water back to claim LAND; rather they tapped treated lumber into the shallow waters, built a floating wooden plank walkway then added a building. Then it grew by adding more pilings and attaching to prior building. It's floating atop water...not reclaimed land. Two totally different things entirely. The pilings are rotting so they sink as bacteria eat away at the wood. It can be fixed with styrofoam blocks injected undernear like Juneau AK used at their marina to greet cruise ships, as well as stainless steel pilings. The noise though!!

Is Venice Sinking or Is the Water Rising? Venice, Italy is literally sinking. It has always experienced flooding from acqua alta (exceptionally high tides) but the frequency of these events has increased. ... As a result, the ground floor of many of Venice's buildings are now uninhabitable .Oct 14, 2021 Venice, Italy, is sinking at the alarming rate of 1 millimeter per year. Not only is it sinking, but it is also tilting to the east and battling against flooding and rising sea levels. ... Venice was originally founded as a series of 118 islands separated by canals with 400 bridges that link them.

@katelangworthy8698
@katelangworthy8698 2 года назад
@@sylviaisgod6947 Actually, both are happening. Yes Venice has been slowly sinking for hundreds of years. Key word here is slowly. Global warming (natural or man made the outcome is the same) is greatly accelerating the rate that the city is drinking, due to rising sea levels and changes in weather patterns. We can become ostriches and bury our heads in sand, while plugging our ears and shouting la la la. Or we can decide to demand action to clean up our environment and reduce the things that scientific experts KNOW have an effect on our world's health. If we liberals are wrong, and it wasn't due to climate change, what's the harm? We would then have left our grandchildren a cleaner, more sustainable world in which to live. In the past, during the Venetian Republic, or the Highly Serene Republic, there was a figure, called "Magistrate to the Waters", whose main task was that of keeping under control the tides and the safety of the city. If the waters raised too much or the city was flooded, he was sentenced to death and his head was cut. So he took great care that all the canals were cleaned and in good order and that the openings between the lagoon and the open sea were kept free and flowing. Now most part of the canals are dirty, so that their are less deep and this is a great problem. As always, it's the man's fault, not nature's

I’m just gonna say it- As a Christian, not evangelical, real Sabbath-keeping, commandment -obeying Christian- Seventh Day Adventist. It really does seem like in these very last days, God’s people are living totally different lives in different worlds. (safe and protected) vs those that are lost and unsaved. Just like Psalm 91 states. Prophecy is coming to pass like never before. We’re not experiencing no where near anything like the extreme evangelicals are, the non believers, the wicked or the like. It’s so surreal at times. It’s really happening that God is bringing people into judgment and protecting His Remanent. Of those who keep the commandments of God, have the faith of Jesus and have the testimony of Jesus Christ which is the Spirit of prophecy. (Revelation 19:10) Psalm 91:1-16 ESV My Refuge and My Fortress 91 He who dwells in athe shelter of the Most High will abide in bthe shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say1 to the Lord, “My crefuge and my dfortress, my God, in whom I etrust.” 3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. 5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. 9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place- the Most High, who is my refuge- 10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. 11 For he will command his sangels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. 12 On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. 14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he aknows my name. 15 When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

First, the news presenter moves his head far too much in the introduction, it looks like he is trying to be more dynamic. He does a good job of interviewing people. Second, isn't it time to realize the inevitable? Abu Simbel in Egypt is the answer for Venice. It's time to re-locate this ancient treasure of humanity. They can do it; they've done it before. You can't stop the rising seas, but you can re-locate an entire city inland.
