The 60 second countdown sequence to the start of the London 2012 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, made from photographs of numbers found in and around London.
The music is a remix of "The Road Goes on Forever" by High Contrast, which samples The Who's "Baba O'Riley" (some know it as "Teenage Wasteland").

I think the first hour of the opening cereomy in 2012 was just perfect. Britain at its best! Happy times!

This countdown is quintessentially British which is why I love it. You cannot compare the two without looking at the context - an emerging super power (trying to prove something to the world) and hosting for the first time vs an old world empire and 3-time Olympics host with nothing to prove.

I still can't believe that they didn't use (a) an M25 sign for 25 or (b) either Heathrow Terminal 4 or 5 tube station for either 4 or 5. Two well known things for London and they missed both.

Lincoln Barrett on the opening ceremony and remix: @BBC - /programmes/p00x556v @his own web site - /2012/07/30/high-contrasts-olympic-story-part-1/ Can't say I'm down with the DnB/Underworld style original mix but the remix worked perfectly in this context. Baba O'Riley is a timeless classic to build on.
