Found a couple of these babies while digging up a walkway in our backyard. I've lived in New England over 30 years and have never before seen this type of snake. Plenty of garter and black racers as a kid, though.

Probably wise to watch it and hold on to after a stressful moment. Letting it go right away makes in vulnerable.

We have 3 of these living in the screen doors on our breezeway. Somehow they get all around the doors. Through the track i suppose. I have had them fall on my head when opening the doors up. Fun stuff. They seem mostly harmless but I don't want them coming in the house. Also I noticed that I wounded one by opening the slider. It got caught in the track and the door must have slid over it. Is there anything I can use as a deterrent to keep them from living in my slideinh doors?

I know this is old but if anyone is looking, snakes don't like cold water or ammonia. Some people soak rags or paper towels in ammonia and put them in an unsealed plastic bag in the area. Due to their poor sight and deafness, they have extreme levels of scent perception and some species can see heat or cold. Since it takes snakes a while to figure out something is too hot, chilly water is very effective in making a snake either regurgitate something it shouldn't be swallowing (if you had pet ones, like me, who tried to eat a towel a rat had touched) and might make them leave immediately.

I found one in Delaware it was on my deck and my puppy was looking at it so I chopped that btch up with a tomahawk, then I found this video and realized I didn’t need to do that😂 better safe than sorry tho when it comes to snakes🤷‍♂️

Poor snake, you shouldn’t chop it up cus you don’t know what it is, you should just move away from it and google what it is, they are very calm DELICATE creatures.
