Today this jerk asked us if we had a crush on each other in front of both of our faces luckily it was just one other person and the reason were so nice to each other is that we are neighbors so you can’t exactly be mean to your next door neighbor so it’s kinda obligated that you never meet you’re neighbors or are friends with them so I had to apologize for his being a jerk

Same. I overcompensate for the trauma of having to grow up around three narcissistic assholes by being overly nice and letting people walk all over me. I got hurt so badly that making anyone feel even just a little bit bad will make me feel like garbage. But I’m hyper aware of manipulation tactics so I don’t let people get close because I’m afraid of getting hurt so I’m known as the nice bubbly friend who makes a lot of bad puns but everyday is lived in fear. And because so much of my life has been giving as much as a I can, I don’t really have a developed personality. Honestly one of the things I legitimately hold dear really helped me with this. I don’t have a lot of interests so book/shows/games that I enjoy are treasures. Anyway the quote is “you’ve been taught that selfish is a dirty word.” Being constantly selfish can be defined as greed but acting in your own self interest doesn’t make you a greedy person. It’s when you only act in your self interest that you become greedy and overly selfish. And it’s helped a lot. I learned about affective altruism with is basically, “it you don’t help yourself, you aren’t able to help others.” And it took me forever to realize but being constantly selfless will just burn me out and won’t help anyone. Anyway sorry I’ve loaded my entire life’s story onto you. And I’m still a little ashamed that it took me so long to realize al of this. :)

I relate with half of it only . The last part for example is completely the opposite. Nice people do realize that life is full of pain and misery and this is the main reason we are nice. We don't want to increase the pain and misery in the world by being disgusting vile creatures

That's awesome you're really nice! But definitely try to avoid letting people walk over you. It's also kind of tough being a little mean as a nice person, but it'll help you a lot in the long run! : ) Not saying to just like start insulting everyone, but if you don't wanna do something or if something's bothering you, definitely let the other person know.
