My 114,000 mile LS 430 had no sign of the timing belt ever having been changed. I followed Amd’s video on timing belts and was able to change it. Thanks Amd!
I came close to selling my 2005 LS 430 last year until I found your series on this 600k car. I am now going to keep mine forever and one day do a restoration like this on mine. I am the second owner and I have had the car for 10 years now with 279,913 miles as of today. Still running great and being a Texas car it's entire life not a spec of rust anywhere. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing the show room finish.
600k miles on ONE or even a few same makes and models doesn't mean anything bud. There are kia's with 450k miles that I wouldn't even TOUCH with a 10 foot pole. This lexus, although very reliable and I guess "okay" looking (to each their own, to me it looks like an out dated grandpa car especially from the back end). This car is not practicle.. V8 on a sedan that isint even a sports car? Gas guzzling for no reason. Never the less, if you already have the car , at almost 300k miles you SHOULD keep it. No point of selling it for like 3-4k & then struggling to find something else in today's used car market. Now, if this was a land cruiser, then you would of gotten close to 8-12k even with the miles!
@@dbdnrbdbUntil you get into one and drive one it is hard to explain the joy of driving that 4.3L V8. It is the smoothest engine I have ever driven, and it feels more powerful than its 290 HP that is claims. I love the driving aspects of the car. Nothing will ever top a V8 when it comes to joy of just driving and cruising. At highway speeds the car is a joy to drive.
I really enjoy watching you restore restore this vehiclel. Actually, I love watching all of your videos. They are very helpful for us DIY folks. Thank you!!
I believe this car came from Bellevue, Washington (Pacific Northwest). When it snows (which is a rarity here) the highway departments do not put salt on the ice, but sand. I'm thinking that is why there is so much sand trapped behind that rear bumper.
Nov 2022 I flew to visit my sister and brother in law in Seattle. Their 2002 Corolla, 2004 Sequoia and 2005 ES330 had every bolt underneath looking clean and neat and they are not car people. Here in Jersey my G35 is slowly turning into Swiss cheese with crispy bolts. Wish I got into lanolin undercoating few years earlier still. I used AMD’s videos to guide us through buying their ES and Sequoia. Thanks!!
So since the event of 'snowmageddon' in 2012 they did start salting in certain areas. I remember when I started working at Boeing in 2006 my boss then said that cars can last a long time here because they don't salt and 'cars don't rot.' Anyway I did remember seeing a lot of 30+ year old Mercedes Turbodiesels and thought about his words. I do hope they don't salt anymore or as much.
Ha ha ha about the Washington dirt. I live in Washington state and I have had four Lexus vehicles and yes they do seem to collect a lot of rocks and dirt in the wheel well area.
Another hiding place for sand and debris is under the front wheel well covers at the base of the wheel well and front of the rocker panel. I've found wet gunk on all the cars I've owned and is one of the first things I do when I get an older car. Helps avoid rusting in those areas. Spray with Fluid Film, Rust Check etc. to preserve it.
Good to see unique videos like this. Likely ties into why that dealership sent that ~94 Lexus ES customer to you to diagnose the unique issue they couldn't solve.
Love restorations! That's gonna look great when it's finished. I had a little rust starting on my '96 300 (left rear rocker by the sill). A lot of bigger shops don't want to do that anymore, no money in it. Luckily there's an independent guy in my area who has a home shop. He did it right and it came out great. Good luck with your work! I only have 433000 miles to go to catch up with you!
I have a 1998 Lexus GS400 with 250,000 miles I am restoring. I am the second owner, picking it up at 75,000 miles. I will do the same with a 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser with 315,000 miles. When they are done, I will be turning my attention to my 2010 Lexus LX570 with 220,000. They are all California cars, none of them have rust or have ever been wrecked. I plan to keep them all as long as possible. I was inspired to run the numbers after watching your video about your client that restored his Lexus GX 470, instead of replacing it with a newer car. While gasoline can be expensive, I don't have car payments and vehicles have been extremely reliable.
I have a 1999 LC it has 501thousand as of today. It has taken my family to many vacation and camping trips. I will never get rid of it. The engine is a quiet giant. You only now what I mean if you own one.
@@djerniet350I know exactly how you feel. I have a whole garage full of things like that that my grandkids are gonna have to get rid of because I sure can’t.
Your effort, craftsmanship, TLC, skills, and your humor is great therapy 😊!! I have a 2014 Sienna van with 300,000 km. that runs perfectly with zero engine/transmission leaks! My van has been used commercially; courier/Uber. Your Car Care philosophy is what I have practiced on several Toyota vehicles! This 2014 will be my last forever vehicle! Thanks for your knowledge and entertainment!! Wish I was closer to your shop so I could show you my pristine van. I live in Vancouver BC.
Been waiting for a LS update. Thanks for posting up. Can't wait to see how it looks after the body shop is done with their magic. Keep us up to date sir!
I don't know why but I love watching your videos especially the ls430 related material. I think you are responsible for my 04 ls430 purchase with 127k miles. I want to see more of your other 04 to 06 lexus ls430 purchase you made.
Had a MK1 LS400 limited import to UK, I ran it on LPG single point injection went like the wind and turned heads only problems were control bushes and LCD display going dark, replaced it with a 2005 LS400 which was good but not as sleek looking as the MK1, moved that on as the valve seals were starting to pass but otherwise a good bus. Now have a 2005 GS300 which is reliable but not a patch on the LS. Once taught a Scooby a lesson in power management, stuffed the throttle into the shagpile and nearly ended up in the back seat as the LS can move. The Scooby got a speed camera ticket ha ha. Great channel.
Man, look at thar red Celica GT-S. I always loved that car and wanted one (I had a beautiful '86 Corolla GT-S hatchback, but I wanted the Celica with the hood scoop!)
I have to say...thanks to your videos I am so informed on how to maintain my Lexus/Toyota, where to go, what to ask for, and when to spot things being offered that are just money-grab nonsense. Just the other day during my dealer oil change they asked if I wanted to do "maintenance alignment" or "AC refresh". I wish I lived closer to your shop! Thank you AMD.
I brought my Corolla Hybrid to AMD's shop earlier this week for an oil change and tire rotation. He wasn't there at the time, but his tech did not try to upsell me on anything. What a pleasure!
As a pro you know where to stand. Ware Safety glasses to show the layman how to stay safe. Always promote all your videos. And as an old school tech I learned a lot from you!
When you talk about removing parts for repaint (hood, mirrors, bumper covers and rocker covers etc.), how close of a match do you expect the body shop to achieve with the repaint? How do you find a body shop that gets it right?
I remember working on these when new…the thing is a tank just the like LS400. Like the 04 and 05 facelift models but overall they are the same. Awesome cars!
Saw this car at the shop before the restoration began. For over 600K miles, it still looked decent. Can’t wait to see the exterior go back to showroom new!
I'm glad to see you've made great progress with your car. It will look spectacular I'm sure, when it's done. A great project takes time and money, but in the end it'll be worth it! Thank you for this video.
That Red Car! lol. Nice background TCCN, thanks for all you share. Right now the verdict is out on whether I consider repainting my mint '94 Corolla wagon. Were it a Celica I probably would... if I had a garage.
Two years ago I bought a 2006 RX330 with 215,000. Excellent condition, and I have had fun changing the valve cover gaskets, fluids, brakes. Interior is really great condition, but the dash is cracked and I'm thinking about spending the 1500 to get a new one. One. Fortunately, Ahmad showed how to do this so if I buy it I can do it myself.
Literally the best DIY helpful/informative Car RU-vidr out there. I am a Toyota apprentice myself and I wish I lived closer so i could work here! Keep at it, 1M subscribers is very soon.
I have 502,000 miles on my 2003 Lexus GX470 and I’ve made the decision to just keep driving it and replace wear and tear cosmetic ( and obviously mechanical) items as they go. Keep it going.
The thing that blows my mind is the amount of gas it takes to get one of these too 500k. Around 30,000 gallons. Depending on where you live the cost would have been anywhere from 75-150,000 dollars.
@@brandonmorris2513I drive my Prius for work also gas cost 4 cents per mile yours would be 18 cents per mile at same cost per gallon. For every 100,000 miles you will spend an extra $14,000 on gas. That’s at 2.70 per gallon. Not sure what kind of work you do but if it’s throwing money away you are extremely successful.
Can you please make a video on the Lexus NX 300 turbo? About its reliability and all. Would love your input. Thank you for making such great informative content.
Enjoyed the video as always. Could you take us around the Toyota Celica GT40 next to the Lexus …. What a fabulous Rally car they made from the showroom model !
Toyota Corona, 4 cylinder car (which is the best car i ever had) got me almost 500kmi and then the odometer stopped working. It ran like a sewing machine and I put more miles on it; i finally traded it in it was because my son wanted to ride around in a sportier car, but I liked how it looked. It sorta looked like a mercedes-benz, and trouble free, except the starter went out a few times. The auto dealer was mad because he was planning to put a million miles on it and it failed inspection; the frame was broken. It still rode great with a broken frame.
Love your work. You did a big mess today, but my biggest question is what did you use for your floor because looks amazing with little bit of Washington dirt. Please share the product what’s going to stay gray for the life time.
I’ve been into Subaru since 2006. My wife purchase a CT200h brand new in 2017, I negotiated a good deal at the time. It’s been 100% reliable, we’ve changed the oil every 5,000 miles from the beginning and always oem replacement oem filters and oil. I walked the showroom floor for hours while we went back and forth negotiating. I looked at all the cars and was left thinking the IS350 F sport would be a good car for me to own. But I was in love with my 2 wrx vehicles at the time, an 02 bugeye sedan and 2005 Saabaru wagon. Now I’m 59 years young and have decided to mature some, I’m finally ready to part way with my beloved and well taken care of Subarus, same ones I’ve been loving and taking care of since new. I found a 2017 IS300 AWD F sport in atomic silver like I saw on the showroom floor in 2017 with black interior with only 58,000 miles that I’m picking up Monday. I’m flying to South Carolina for it and driving it back home to NY. I’ve looked at the car history reports and requested videos from the dealer. They’ve been very accommodating, lifting the car 2 times and showing me underneath. The car looks like new all around. Service history is not complete from what I can see online but I figure at its current mileage I’ll take it to Lexus and have them do the transmission and brake fluid flush. Already ordered all oem filters from Toyota, oil, PCV valve, spark plugs to do right away. Will clean the throttle body and maf, inspect for any leaks, etc. Essentially do the recommended 60,000 mile service. The one question I have is about the radiator fluid, Lexus dealer told me it is not necessary to do a radiator fluid flush but I feel like I should have that done. The looked at me as if I have 4 eyes because I was insisting on wanting that done. I have not looked at the radiator fluid in person yet but I still think 7 year old radiator fluid should be flushed out. What say you Mr Car Care Nut ? Should I not do the radiator fluid flush ?Thanks for the great channel. I will start changing the oil every 5,000 miles and do preventative maintenance like I have always done with all my vehicles. Wife’s CT200h is just shy of 50,000 miles. Please let me know your opinion about 7 year old radiator fluid, thank you sir.
Hi Mr. Care Car Nut. Love the video! I know you were indicating that we might not like the content, but no. I love it. Keep doing what you're doing because that is why I keep watching and share with all my friends! Thank you again and may the lord bless you and all over there!
I’m excited for you Ahmed.....we are considering a 2012 LS460 AWD with no air suspension, I know that probably makes you cringe. It has 82,000 miles, and has been very well maintained as I have all the records. The owner has had this car for regular maintenance every 5k miles. We haven’t bought it yet, the car is getting brakes at the Lexus dealer as we speak, and then we will go drive it again, and consider an offer.
@pdubsyyyy I've owned a 2019 Lexus RX350 and it was a great vehicle. If the car is maintained from the beginning you have a much better chance of even a newer lexus or toyota doing just fine. I agree with Ahmed's warning for the ls460 because of the cost of repairs as it ages, if something wears or breaks, it's going to cost you a lot more because it's a premium luxury vehicle. We also have a 2013 Toyota Prius that Ahmed has already done significant work on because I bought it cheap from an owner who overheated the vehicle that caused warpage to the valve cover. But Ahmed fixed it and the car runs like new now. The point is these cars are good cars, even post 2004, just take care of them and maintain them, but if something breaks, especially the premium luxury post 2004 ls460 expect a big bill.
