I bought a used Kia Niro PHEV and love it. Wait times for new ones in BC, Canada are ridiculous. What I do not like about the R4Ps are the electric hum. The Niro is much quieter and the perfect size for me.

I'm not an engineer (at least not that type of engineer), so my opinion is probably no better than anyone else's. That said, External reservoir shocks are good for off-road racing or if you're driving fast on bumpy/washboard roads where the fluid in the shocks gets very hot, but otherwise, I think it's mostly one of those "Racing on Sunday, Dealer on Monday" things. On the road? I see no point.

The feature on my vehicle dims the headlights. It turns the high beams off when you approach another vehicle. I can’t override the system if the sensor detects a street light instead of oncoming headlights. I have been driving for 25 years I’m not driving around with my high beams on.

As an enthusiast/hobbyist I really like talking directly to technicians. I know just enough to understand what they're talking about and also to tell them exactly what I need done. It saves so much time and money if you don't have to talk to a slimy salesman.

I don't understand. Everyone says with newer cars you don't have to change your oil as much. Everyone says that the 3,000/3 months is outdated, and they are just trying to get more money to make your change your oil faster, and the 5,000 6 month thing is outdated, and they are just tryihng to get more money to make you change your oil faster. And when you go online to reliable pages, they explain these same things. They say with newer cars you can go 7500 to 10,000 miles or 1 year. And then of course the maneual itself will say something like 7500 - 10000 or one year..............and last but not least....................everyone always says that some mechnaics lie and they just want to make money then and to learn from the manuel and do some research then....................and yet....................now I came here and this guy says change it about every 5 months and less than a year.....................so......................what gives?...............by the way...........I have a 2018 honda crv...........and the manuel makes it seem like a certain amount of miles or one year then.

My 2.4 in my 012 XB . Oil burner now . Change the plugs & new PCV . Did improve the oil issue. Next is decarb the motor/ clean throttle body . Using 5-20 right now . Might switch to 5-30 ? Fuel economy has drastically increased however.

I can’t say that I feel any hesitancy on take off in the Honda system, to my understanding from stop it’s always set to electric drive. Battery EV only in normal mode to 40km/h then the motor cuts in as a generator. Battery + engine as a generator from start off in sport mode. The petrol engine only shifts to direct drive at highway speeds for greater cruising efficiency.

Exceptional comparison with detailed knowledge of the pros and cons both vehicles’s hybrid systems. Perhaps you should have included relative fuel efficiency. The thing that would make this the perfect comparison would be for you to demonstrate the engine, transmission and drivability differences on road. I look forward to your comparison with the Nissan E:Power AWD hybrid system.

I'm a motorcycle tech and I don't mean to come across as rude when I say this, but how come you didnt just send the block out to get punched out oversize and put new pistons, rings in and freshen up the rest? Is a shortblock that much cheaper? For those wondering in the motorcycle world, shortblocks, depending on manufacturer, cannot be bought.

I really appreciate this video. Thank you. I have just collected my RAV4 and, for the past 7 years have been driving a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Your video describes a method of driving that is entirely new to me, despite seven years of having already driven a hybrid. I look forward to better fuel economy as a result of watching your web site.

Changing the standpipe is the easiest thing on the planet. You need to move it all up 3 mm with a flathead screwdriver. It comes right out, and when you put it in the new cap push it back. Thousands of Toyota fans have done this nobody has a problem

i say no to electronic brake, when i drive cars with a normal one i always pull it when parking and you notice when it starts getting bad and that is a very easy fix. got an electriconic parking brake on my daily and an engine burnt out, thats a bit more expensive than fixing the line on a normal proper one.

Definitely like start/stop. Realistically, I'm rarely in stop and go traffic: it shuts down for a minute when I'm sitting at the lights. Perfect. And if I am in gridlock, the hybrid motor will take care of it and the engine stays off 90% of the time.

My advisor’s lack of communication to the tech worked in my favor. The tech did about $3000+ in unnecessary timing chain and guide replacement work, FOR FREE. Then, when I went to pick it up, and it wasn’t fixed, the tech finally got my complaints directly, and fixed the real problem.

Why did they stop making them with 1 motor with an arm and 2 regular shocks that can be replaced for cheap very few years? Car manufacturers just keep complicating things unnecessarily.

Fantastic Review as always! Thinking about long term ownership, if the engine ever fails, it looks like it will be a nightmare to do any major work. Given that these engines have been failing in Tundras and now in some of the LX600’s (crank bearing failures, destroying the engines) I wonder if all this complexity will be good in the long run.

He mentions/implies that the rear wheel drive model is more expensive when there is suspension work. Why is that? Everything I've heard about this model, and other Lexus models, is that the RWD is less complicated and less expensive to own than the AWD, which has more parts, and expensive problems when something goes wrong. But I wonder what it is he was referring to that makes the RWD so expensive to fix, RE control arms, etc.
