I like how you explain things very thoroughly. That was an issue for me when I was son welding school my instructor assumed we knew more than we actually did and no one wanted to ask questions and disappoint
I have been hearing about whip and pause for 6 yrs. It never made since it me until you explained it. No one ever said to short arc it at the pause to facilitate the puddle to cool. You are a beast!!
There are many great videos on roots pass welding but your video Abe is by far the best one, in my opinion. Very well explained and demonstrated. Thank you very much for this, I've been having problems with by root welding on pipe and I know this will help. Respect mate.
Thank you very much for this informative video! I'm currently finishing horizontal smaw and was very inconsistent and not confident with the 6010. After watching this video I went from worrying about failing cause I couldn't get consistent penetration on an open root pass to successfully doing 2 good root passes on my practice and actual test plates which is most of the grade. I was able to successfully complete them on the last day of class and my grade jumped from failing to an A. You have a gift for teaching. Thanks again!
Awesome explanation of how to whip and pause! I never knew that you were supposed to push in a little at the front of the keyhole. The reinforcement on the back side looked cleeeeean. Gonna have to try that!
Your explanation on your technique for the process you prefer, the best advice I've seen! No doubts about it bro, you can punch through the thickest of numbskulls with your delivery of the information! It's a good technique to learn, but that delivery made this video one of the best out there! You just set the bar...
Thanks. This really helped me out. I started at 60 amps with 1/8 rod. Moved up a few aps at a time until I was at 75. I am much more consistent with my root. Completing passes much faster without stopping for too much heat... Thanks again....
that's the technique I was taught by amar, and it work perfectly using 6010 ( red rods) before I learned the Wip and pawz I used to burn through or drip molten metal now I'm good thanks a lot, I should be working the east coast railroads rocking some outlaw leather gear , you explain it so good it'll definitely improve my style thanks bro. thumbs up 43 and O
@@dwightglidden934 i feel you this is the first video I’ve found where they do the whipping technique that we use at school which I thought was the norm
"snuffing out" the rod is such a good analogy I really needed that sir. I think that's been my problem I think I've been long arcing slightly when I whip up. Hopefully keeping this in mind will help me. Don't have much help in learning so weldtube has been a great resource to fix my little problems
I dont do much stick anymore but i would love to try this technic. I got a little nervous for ya when i saw the keyhole open right up on ya. Very awesome tutorial. Thank you.
Great video, I teach at a tech school and this video helped me improve my teaching...thanks one constructive comment...next time tell us the Amperage you are using. Everyone is guessing about what you ran it at...it would really be nice to know exactly
Great job bud. Glad you got a chance to show your technique also. It’s great to see all you guys technique. Give us different ways to try out ways that would make us comfortable to use
I have a copy of (welders offshore guide), that's sold on EBAY, and in one part of it, it tells how a number of welders learn and get certified without ever having to go to an expensive welding school. So many young men want to be welders but some are already married and cannot afford to take a year out of their life and go back to vocational training school. Ingalls in pascagoula, ms. Has 3 year pipe welding apprentice programs where they pay $17.50 per hr. Just to train you, drawback is passing a drug test and no criminal background which most welders have issues with both. That's why I like the welders offshore guide because it overcomes all those issues with the knowledge it provides on learning and getting certified, without having to go through long awaited union programs, some welders follow its advice and get certified in a few weeks. I wish it had been published back in the 70's when I started welding.
Well that was the first you actually showed the root I hadn't been welding on bevel pipe I hadn't even been welding on bevel plate been doing a lot of structural non code stuff been paying pretty good I'm going to get back into code welding so I started practicing and man was I throwed off I had been getting that buildup on each side of the world just like you did I had been worried about that being a bust point but I don't guess it is
Here’s some helpful advice for you, on tie ins, when you feather your welds down with the grinder and you start welding. Instead of just starting where you left off, blow through that about 1/8th inch from where it ends and I promise you’ll never see your ties in at all on a root bead
Another lil bit harder but faster & easier on the fitter way is to not just go cold lap right into your continuation spot but set their just a bit n long arc it to bring up the temperature on the stop spot & then get back in it.
Aye Bro...I like what you doin cos I do same more or less. I soak my puddle and choke the 5p+ same way on uphill welds. All you boyz doin a fine job. Keep up the good work and the good morale. PeaceOut
Learnt a lot in this video, currently doing 1g open roots and I think ima turn my amperage down and pause at the edge of the keyhole instead of the puddle. This whole time I thought whip and pause you paused at the puddle. Long story short my keyholes go absolutely out of control after a while, and I then have a giant ‘chode’ (what my welding teacher calls it😂)where I spent half a rod filling in a blow through. I can’t wait to try this
6010 is so whip whip then pause. No stanky leg but there's the occasional molten metal in shoe which looks similar from a distance, lyrics are quite a bit different though.
Wow it was so amazing sir😲😮it was surely having a penetration on a root pass. I gained a lot of learnings about pipe welding. Keep giving us a learning sir😇
Cool, I've always liked 6010 but now I know I've been whipping it too long. I understand it's a fast freeze rod I just thought a long whip was better. Thanks for the tutorial, gonna try this method really soon for common arc.
I’ve been practicing for the past week now using a old miller 225 thunderbolt (AC ONLY) using 6011 3/32 it’s hard to learn with that but I’m getting better
I just bought a 650 amp chinese machine from a friend here in thailand (220volts). I am just a beginner, when using 6013 rod are the amps 30/60 the same as on a 150 amp machine compared to 650 amp with arc force /hot start. Thank you.
Thank you!!! I am wanting to try this. I usually get started and get the root running and then the keyhole opens up and I blow a hole in it. Maybe this is the fix!!!!!!!!!
Hi Abraham,i am student of welding ,i have watch losts of video on 6010 root pass, your technique is superb while root came out beutifully like never b4. But i had like to see how you chooking the rod (electrode angle)while approching 12 oclock from say 2 oclock .i have tried it your technique but i had over penetration at 2 to 12 oclock. Thanks
What amperage you at for this? This is exactly what I’m doing this semester and the way you describe it seems very helpful. Perfect timing glad I got notifications on.
