Thank you so much Bevan , These videos are wonderful. I can't believe I'm seeing and hearing one of thee fabulous machines again., I actually rode 6029 from Gosford to Broadmeadow in May 1969, one of several rides on Garratts. The restoration is an absolute credit to all involved-I can barely imagine the will and determination and organisation to carry it through. Thank you so much again. :-)

Thanks mate, remembering the bygone era at least brings back the happy old days, where people had different jobs in Railways. From shunter to signaller, from Guards to examiners! All jobs have gone to the drains for the sake of profits. Cutting jobs, means less service to society. That's what has happen in US of A, & Australia has followed uncle SAM as usual, like any other thing!

ROFL.... via wiki... Oberg wrote he witnessed an AD60 clear a dead 1220-tonne double-headed diesel freight (total weight 1450 tonnes) from a 1 in 55 grade without wheel slip... New South Wales Government Railways introduced the 4-8-4+4-8-4 AD60 Garratt in 1952, built by Beyer, Peacock. The AD60 weighed 265 tonnes, with a 16-tonne axle loading. As delivered, it developed a tractive effort of 60,000 lbf (270 kN)), not as powerful as the South African Railways GMA/M 4-8-2+2-8-4 Garratts of 1954, which developed a tractive effort of 60,700 lbf (270 kN).[14] Following modifications in 1958 to thirty AD60s, their tractive effort was increased to 63,016 lbf (280.31 kN). These locomotives remained in service until the early 1970s with a replacement "6042" (The original was scrapped in 1968) the last withdrawn in February 1973.

6029 Garratt Steam Locomotive amazing Power!😁🏗️📢

she still shows that one Garratt could pull more than the two pieces of pig iron behind it, proved in service if you watch some of the old footage of Garratts in service then the next lot shows two pig irons trying to get up the same incline, Nuff said

+faulcon1 Mate, in these load trials, the sound of the diesels you can hear, is idling, they are doing bugger all, only there if the loco stops completely and can't move. In every video of modern steam operation, I always see your negative comments about diesels, either get over the fact that diesels are just a necessary part of steam operation now and enjoy the steam loco itself and the videos of steam locos, or stop commenting and ignore steam operation entirely, simple as that mate.

a beautiful sight. Those lights sure seem brighter than the originals (but thats a good thing). I wouldn't have thought that much of a load for that engine?

The AD60s were able to haul 650 tonnes in service, although 6029 is going to be limited to 600 tonnes.
@45calGunslinger
@45calGunslinger 10 лет назад
Aaron Hobson They were limited to 650 tonnes in operation, but in reality were capable of shifting over 1000.
@MrRailroadrunner
@MrRailroadrunner 9 лет назад
45calGunslinger They could start 1000, but they couldn't sustain it. As the tanks lighten up, so does the tractive effort.

awesome , the tonnage to me looks like about 555 tonnes including the 2 engines, 6029 can haul 600 tonnes on a 1 in 40 grade which this is between Queanbeyan and Bungendore

nah she can haul 1000 tonnes no problem

Where the Garratts in Australia used in freight service as well in the steam era?
@timothypurser8729
