6029 conducted a series of test runs within the Canberra Railway Museum’s yard limits out on the ‘North Shunt’ to Fyshwick on 25th and 26th July 2014. These were the first days the Garratt locomotive had moved under its own steam since 1981!

***** Ron - You have to think of it as One engine, not Two separate engines stuck together facing different directions, with both engine beds/all Four pistons turning the drivers in the same direction from start up. Its a bit odd at First if your not used to 6029/Garratts but that's how you set it up . Its achieved by having an extra rod between the reverser and the back engine bed quadrants that pivots the reverser setting by 180 degrees for the back engine bed so that both the front engine bed and rear engine bed quadrants will be in the same position for any given reverser setting. Once you get your head around this and other 6029/Garratt things that may not be what you initially assume its all quite logical in its particular Garratt way.

thanks you will find haw its done is that the the cranks are placed 180 degrees different than the front drivers that reverses the quadrant block position making the rear drivers reverse Ron
