It's been a long time coming Austin, but what a wonderful sight to see her working again. Last time I saw her a few years ago at a Crewe open day, all that was on show was her frames.
Nice scene. What whistle is fitted on it? It sounds a lot like an Australian NSW 38 class. Would love to get back up there to check out the steam activity- it has been too long. Looking forward to seeing it back in mainline action before too long. Cheers
Good question, and I hope someone can confirm, but it sounds a lot like a New Zealand 5 chime whistle which it has definitely carried in its previous working life. Sounds slightly higher pitched, but this would be the doppler effect when approaching at speed, A4 60013 Dominion of New Zealand carried a similar whistle which can be heard on Peter Handford's Argo Transacord EP Gresley Pacifics available on youtube ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oXHan4TauZ4.html best regards, Andrew
Thanks very much. I don't know what the whistle is I'm afraid but its certainly different to the one it had when last on the mainline. Hope you're able to get back to enjoy our steam scene
Thanks for your input. I have the EP of Gresley Pacifics bought from a record shop inTorquay when I was about13! Peter Hanfords recordings are so wonderful and great to listen to with the birdsong, church bells etc. all adding to the atmosphere
A bit of research shows it is indeed a New Zealand 5 chime whistle which it has carried for a lit of years, the only railway in the UK. Good to know, and it could pass for a NSW chime. Cheers
@@acw71000 This is what it should sound like, I was on the footplate of a loco with the same whistle a couple of months ago: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h3SdoDEDStg.htmlsi=3myVkTyBcDWR3MRH
