@@ApronstringsGayJordan Thank you Gay! What a sweet thing for you to say! I loved her beauty, style, sophistication and her sweet, soft voice. Such a lady! I remember the day that our president died. I was coming out of chemistry class. I just screamed. Everyone was crying. It was like the end of a dream...Camelot. YOU are classy and sweet and I'm glad I found your channel. You have a blessed Sunday too sweetie!☺
Thanks so much! I love anything kitchen....I got to remodel several years ago and it is truly my happy place. The brick arch has been there since we built. It was a gotta have from the get go!!! thank you for watching!!!!!1 Have a blessed day! Please visit often!!!!
From one "crazy old lady" to another, I like your style Ms. Gaye😊. These young ones need to listen to their elders about pantry and food preservation. I was in 7th grade math class on the day President Kennedy was assassinated. A day our Nation mourned. That should give you a hint as to my age, lol. Thank you dear for the recipe. I think the name of the casserole fits perfectly. Blessings...
Linda.....we are a round peg in a square hole in this generation! But, I wouldn't trade my childhood and upbringing with any of the younguns nowdays!!!!
I was in the 4th grade, in a little Texas town , Palmer ISD. Our class was interrupted to tell our teacher President Kennedy had been killed. School closed early, the school buses showed up fast to get us,bus kids quick. It was the longest Thanksgiving holiday I was ever on.
Linda, I was in fifty grade, and had just arrived home from school on the bus. Mama was in the living room crying. She said our President is dead, we must pray for Jackie. My Mom loved John F. Kennedy. They were cousin several times removed.
Gay, you are very gentle in your warnings of what is to come. Honestly if people don't know by now they are in the sand and don't want to know. We who are in the know will continue to prep, garden and take care of ourselves so we don't have to have a government that can control us and tell us what to do. Good luck little lady. Bev from Oklahoma
@@ApronstringsGayJordan I need some prayers if you don’t mind. I have to have cataract surgery in both eyes and then I have to have a whole in my retina fixed. So if I’m not on when this all goes down you’ll know why.
Oh, YUM!!! We had this for supper tonight -- doctored it with canned mushrooms and salad shrimp from the freezer. It was wonderful! As body-aware as Jackie Kennedy was, you can bet she never served or ate anything with this many carbs and fat calories, but I'm certainly glad I did! Thanks for another recipe that will go into my file box.
Yeah....she missed out on a lot of good stuff!!!!!! This recipe has been around for a while...always with her name on it. She should've tried it once!!!! hahaha
Sounds wonderful! You could actually add any meat to make a dinner meal, sliced, browned polish sausage, cooked shredded roast (they're still cheap enough 😕), imitation crab, shrimp like you did, this is a casserole you can throw in just about anything around your pantry and be delicious! I do alot of roast in crockpot, shred it, add to all kinds of pasta casseroles, winner everytime, even macaroni and cheese.
Thank you so much! Welcome to apron strings and my wonderful ( I am blessed to have remodeled) kitchen. It is my happy place!!!!! Have a blessed week!!!
This is similar to a Polish mac and cheese, made in a skillet with caramelized onions, butter, goat or cottage cheese, and mac, no sour cream. Seasoned with black pepper. We usually had it during Lent or school vacation. Now I want some!!
Yours sounds delicious!!!! I love caramelized onions, and, goat cheese...so I know I'd enjoy your version! I had this with just a fresh green salad. It was so good! Welcome to apron strings! I am so happy to have you here! God richly bless you!
I grew up eating a dish very similar to this, but my mom would add in chicken to make it a full entree. Totally forgot all about it until now. Thanks for the memories 🤗
Ma'am, I just happened by this video and I have to say, you have to be the sweetest and kindest lady I think I've run into in a very long time. I love listening to you and the stories you tell. Bless your heart. I think I've found my kindred spirit in you. I truly enjoyed hearing you speak so lovingly about Jackie Kennedy. She had it rough, rougher than most understand or want to believe. She was as strong as any woman can be considering all the tragedy she suffered in her lifetime. I admired her as well. Always read stories about her and loved listening to her speak. That soft voice and her gracious way made her so precious. You have that same graciousness. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I'm sure it is something my husband would enjoy. He loves casseroles and will eat most anything I present to him. Thank you again for sharing yourself with us. Your heart is so precious and you are a kind soul. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe every day in every way. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. I subscribed to your channel. ❤
I’m an older lady up in PA but I say I’m southern because my family is from Southern Italy. I love to cook southern food. But simple. I feel like you we are kindred spirit! I can and cook scratch. I love all your cookin and you are a sweetheart! God bless you!
@@ninababy8 Thank you so much! I am just seeing this comment....I apologize for being so long responding. Have a blessed weekend.....and thank you so much for watching. Italy........oh my! I'd love some of your recipes!!!!
I went to a bread making class last night and wore my apron that I bought from you and the ladies were saying how nice it is. I love my apron! I’m not a fan of cottage cheese but I bet ricotta might be good in this recipe. Yum!
I know some people don’t like the texture of cottage cheese in savory dishes. You can always take the cottage cheese and put it into the blender and blend it lightly and then use it in your recipe you will still get the flavor but not the curds and so the people that don’t like the texture in the food will still enjoy it as well.
We're under a mess of ice here in north Texas it's been terrible. Of course they said it wasn't going to accumulate but 3 days later we're under near 3 inches of pure ice and we're still getting rain on top of that which will just freeze tonight. It's a good thing I stocked up on some stuff so we wouldn't be without food. Y'all be safe and ty for another yummy recipe! GBY.
That looks so good I’m going to have to try it! As for being a crazy old lady, well, there’s a few of us and there is nothing crazy about being prepared. My husband used to be a prepper and after he passed, I went through some tough times and that food storage was a life saver. Great advice Ms. Gaye!
Years ago my son and his wife lived a couple years on storage when work went to nothing/ It is always wise to be ahead....but, some folks won't listen until too late. Thank you for watching...and I love your comment.
That reminds me of a recipe my mother got when she attended a dietary class by my dad's cardiologist. It was a 'healthy' macaroni and cheese and was flavored with dill. I made it on regular rotation when my kids were little, it was a hearty and inexpensive meal option for us as a young military family. I put a little buttery crust topping on to make it more special but I like your idea of having it as a side dish along with a good healthy protein entree. Thank you for sharing the recipe, Gay. Hope your rain eases up and for sure don't get in on that ice storm.
I'm loving your videos. Miss lori at whippoowill holler is my cousin..but I call her my adopted daughter. She and a subscriber debbie Wilson told me about you and Debbie got me one of your beautiful aprons for my 80th birthday. Love it..❤
Awww...I am so glad to meet you!!!!!!!!! Glad to have you here! Debbie told me she was meeting Lori for a visit and celebrating your birthday! Thank you for subbing.....and btw...your cousin is awesome! I just love Lori!!!
You are a Wise Woman to tell people to plant gardens if they can and eat fresh. There are some crazy things going on with our food and the processing of the foods. I truly wish I could plant a garden. I am in California and live in a development that has strict rules on what we can plant and can’t. I’m sure most people would suggest that I move somewhere I can do what we want with my land. but I help and take care of my elderly mother and also my grandchildren so I will be here for at least 10 more years. So if you can eat as fresh as you can.🙏❤️🇺🇸
Stacey...check out greenstalk vertical gardens. They take up 2x2ft....and grow lots of stuff. They will have a valentines sale I am sure. It is an alternative gardening system that you can grow on a small patio....Just an idea. . Look for morning glory farmstead channel. She offers a ten percent off coupon on your first order. . Tell her that Gay, at apron strings sent you over. She is a new channel.....but so chock full of information.
Thank you so much my dear friend for so much great information about Jackie Kennedy. I always loved her also and I know she had a hard life raising those two children and two husbands couldn’t seem to control themselves.
She sure didn't have good luck with her men....but, the image she presented to the public was perfect. I didn't say she was perfect....just she played her part well...and I think she was an awesome mother.I have always admired her....
Love your channel, you’re recipes and chit chat are calming and enjoyable, by any chance do you have recipes from your parents grandparents etc I especially enjoy old time favorites.❤
Hello Ms. Gaye thank you for sharing this easy recipe 😋. I bet Mrs. Kennedy was a great cook when they left her cook. Ms. Gaye I love how you just go with the flow of your videos it's so honest and natural. Thank you and God-bless you, Jesus hugs 🫂.
Jackie Kennedy O.....one of my favorite ladies of my time. Such a role model! Thank you, Rachel for watching and commenting! The good Lord bless you!!!!!
Jackie's favorite "luncheon" was caviar with a baked potato and champagne. Jackie didn't go near a kitchen. In fact once she burned the bacon when she was married before Jack became President and said she never went near a kitchen again. She didn't know how to cook. That's what hiring a cook was for. She kept her slender frame by starting the day with tea, one piece of toast and fruit. She worked out a lot. Was an athlete..horseback riding, swimming, everything. If she ever had this dish in her house it was when she and Jack had small dinner parties when they lived in Georgetown...His favorite lunch was tuna sandwhich, fish chowder and vanilla ice cream.
The book “Cooking for Madam” by her one time nanny and cook is fantastic. It gives all of Jackie’s and her kids favorites. I love the summer pudding and others. Highly recommend the book and it’s out of print but real cheap on Amazon.
This sounds so comforting! I am intrigued by your lazy susan sitting on the counter with your spices. I would love to do something like that but I don't think I have counter space for it. I'm thinking of adding some shelves behind my pantry door (unused space) for my spices, etc so it will free up some pantry space. We've been working on storing extra food for several years and it has been a blessing to our family as well as to be abe to help other families in times of need.
I love that you share!!!!! My husband makes a joke that everyone that comes here leaves with a "little gift". I always seem to give them something...and it brings me much pleasure! You have a wonderful day....keep stocking that pantry!!!!
It was 8 degrees this am where I am at in Michigan. Tomorrow is suppose to "warm" up to 31 lol. Although I have never made egg noodles from scratch before, I have made spetzal (sp) noodles many times and I add garlic powder or Italian seasonings to the flour so they have flavor. I use cubed steak to make Salisbury steak, when I grew up the hamburger version was called poor man's steak.
I got a recipe for spetzal off a Michigan home ag site. I am gonna make some. I plan to do a video.....first time....it'll be fun!!!!! I would freeze to death in Michigan!!!! hahaha
Well, this casserole looks like it would feed a large family, I know it would mine. It also looks so very delicious. Thank you for always sharing your fantastic recipes with us. May the good Lord bless you and Mr. Troy beyond the telling of it.
Hello ….I love your simple recipes…brings memories…nothing beats the good, old recipes…will try the shrimp too… God bless u …and thank u And to all viewers God bless
Hey, there are days I totally go on strike from the kitchen! I love that you said that sometimes you don't feel like cooking either. I'll bet you we won't be able to buy a rain cloud this summer when we need it. I'm ready to build an ark here in the west 'burbs.
That casserole looks so yummy .. Here in Michigan we are airing the house out in the 40's not for long. Yet ya have to air you home out in the winter get to stuffy if you don't . I love that apron Gay. So pretty. Going to have to check out those shrimp from Costco. Thanks for sharing. 🤗💞
WE are shutting up tight at 40!!!!! Close that door or window....you're letting cold air in!!!!! hahahahaha!!!!!! Those shrimp are sooooooo good!!!!! Big and sweet! Love ya!
I'm gonna try this recipe! Thanks for sharing. I don't think you're crazy. I believe it too as do many many others. We are not alone... there are numerous awakened folks far and wide. It might be rough for a time longer so it would be wise to stock what we can just as you said. Then I truly believe God will work wonders for His children! Stay warm & be safe. God bless you and keep you too. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻Sending Florida sunshine your way. 🌺🌞💖
🍯 I agree with you about Mrs. Kennedy ! I am a little older than Caroline. Even in early grade school. (J.F.K. passed away when I was in the fifth grade). I would ask my saintly grandma to make me Caroline Kennedy dresses. They were usually large collars and no waistline. And nautical themed. My grandma was an excellent seamstress and knitter, etc. And I was devastated when l saw the children at the funeral. I was crying my eyes out. Especially when John John saluted his daddy in the casket. Thanks for sharing this recipe with us ! 🌹🌹🌹
I so remember the salute!!!!! Forever in my mind! You were blessed with a wonderful grandmother!!!!!! I'd love to see pictures of those little dresses!!!!
Strings!! You aint a crazy old lady!!! You’re one smart cookie!!! We have been listening, watching and DOING what you’ve been talking about for 3 YEARS!! Keep talking!!! We will see you next time right up front at the butcher block(we’ll be the ones wearing the tin foil hats)😂
Now.....brag why don't you?????? the rewards of moving! haha. Ricotta.....or even cream cheese will work. IT is so good! HOw is the house coming along?
Hi from Hamburg Michigan! Very cold here! I just found you and im a new sub! I wasn't born when JFK was president, but my Mom always spoke of Jackie. I loved her passion for fashion. I'm not young, been married over thirty years but I think you are very wise. Its so much better to shop the perimeter of the grocery store and prepare your own food. I think your advice is excellent.
Welcome to apron strings!!!! I’m so glad you’re here! I love new friends! Those add ins would be great!!! Have a wonderful week!!! The good Lord bless you!!!
Thank you so much 😊 I love my kitchen! It is definitely my happy place!!! thank you for watching....please visit often and share my channel with your friends!!! Have a blessed week!
This is my first time watching. The recipe sounds wonderful and I absolutely love your kitchen! I noticed the roosters right away - I have my own collection and don’t know why I love them so much, but I do!
@@jackiepyanoe7216 I love roosters and hens. Anything chicken!!!! We have things on common!!!! Please visit me often…. Subscribe and tap the bell for notifications when I upload a new video. Thank you so much for watching!!!
Ms. Gaye, I have problems handling heavy pots, too. To scoop your noodle mixture, I use a dipper or measuring cup to get it into ths casserole dish. And yes, same here with the roads.
Your Kitchen is beautiful 🥰, she was extraordinary different in every way. My Mom was in her 20s when Jackie K was First Lady. And I was three when President K was killed. I mainly remember my Mom wore dresses like her .and nice heels.
Sweet memories of your mother's sharp dress ! Jackie was extraordinary! Thank you for the kitchen comment. I am so blessed. I got to remodel several years ago. I still am amazed that it is mine!
It i so yummy!!!!!! WE dont have ice here.....but, North Texas does where my son lives. Just so much rain for us!!! Need to be part duck, I guess! haha
I make something very similar! I got the recipe off our noon news, in a segment called Rick's Recipes. The only difference was Rick didn't put chives in it. We're not onion lovers (onion powder is good though!) so we wouldn't miss the chives. I haven't made this in a long time because my oldest developed a dairy allergy. However, the next time she spends the night at a friend's house, I'm going to! Thank you for reminding me! You remind me so much of my grandma, who I dearly miss, that I just had to subscribe.
I was in the morning kindergarten class that day Jackie's husband was shot in Dallas-we got sent home from school early. Oh, I wish there was a chair for me at your counter so I could have a dish of JK's casserole! Thank you for the recipe, I will be making it tomorrow.
You always have the best recipes! Putting shrimp in it is a great idea. I have some I canned up and will be good in this casserole. I wouldn't can shrimp again, they came out to soft and they fall apart. Thank you so much for sharing.
While I remember, my cousin doing hair for over 50 years used to be her hairdresser when she was in Mass., he has done many famous peoples hair and always said how nice she was.
Hi from NC, I'm new to your channel. I love all the brick in your kitchen. It's beautiful. I'm a oldie but goody. I was in the sixth grade the day President Kennedy died.
Howdy and welcome to apron strings!!!!!!!!! So glad you're here! I am in the same "class" oldie but goodie!!! hahahaha I love that! We knew we wanted the exposed brick....my friend had this in her kitchen. We used her plans....I love it, too! I remodeled the kitchen after over 40 years a few years back. I feel so blessed!!!
Glad to see you! We are doing a pantry challenge but have been stocking up when we find things on sale. Also buying from Azure. We are getting things cheaper there than we can at Walmart. God bless you, Gay! Stay out of the mud as much as you can. We had 8+ inches of snow. That melted then we got ice. Now we have mud.
Jackie Kennedy was someone I greatly admired as well. Thanks for sharing. I would've bypassed your channel but couldn't when I saw her name associated with your recipe. Than I saw you're a native of the Lone Star State as well, THAT, my dear was the clenched for me to become your new sub. GBY too.
I had to chuckle when you said “ice box”. I am probably about your age and several years ago used to work as a teachers aide in a private early childhood school. I said something about putting my lunch in the icebox and all the kids looked at me a little puzzled. One finally asked me what an icebox was! I corrected myself and told then “refrigerator “. Guess this one word can really age you!
Something about you I really like! You know what your doing in the kitchen! I can really relate to you! Plus you sort of remind me of my grandmother who I am a lot alike. ❤️ I have subscribed!
Welcome to apron strings!!!!! I’m so glad to have you here!!! We must have lots in common!!!! God bless you ! See ya soon with a delicious casserole!!!! ❤️❤️
Well, you crazy old lady, you just gained a new subscriber. Not because you are crazy, but because you are wise, kind and a servant of the LORD. Loved the simple recipe. Good advice you gave on stocking up! Now if only people will listen and heed the warning...
Another delicious meal :) thank you !! We also have the 'pothole' problem on our roads now here in New Zealand with all the rain we've had over the last year..oh my !! but this summer is supposed to be a drought??? what to believe...? I'm going to plant my garden anyway and will be thankful for whatever we get. God's blessings to you ~ Linda
Did you hear this past weekend at Hillandale Farms the chicken and egg processing plant burn down and about 100,000 chickens were killed! I think we know what's going on but they think we're stupid and there's nothing people can do about it. Also Helen what state are you located in that you have a problem with so many potholes? Have a great rest of the week folks.
I live in Texas. They are widening the highway.....and the old 2 lane will be the feeder....and they aren't working on it right now. When the construction part is opened up....thing will get better. The sooner the better!!!!!! I hadn't heard of that plant. That is awful!!!! We are in sad times!!!!
Jackie Kennedy was a classy women. I love pasta, every shape and size… lol. Thats a comfort food for sure. Stock it to the rafters! Be blessed my friend 🥰
