Some would call these cars the most dreadful car made in the 1970's, along with the controversary of the early models with issues in rear end collisions. In the 70's, people were probably right. Today though, we love them.
There weren't very many people whose aspirations in the motoring world was owning a pristine Ford Pinto, and as a result, most of them were driven hard and were in junkyards long before even the 1990's rolled around. This means you'll have an easier time finding a pristine '73 Mustang or F-100 than you will a Ford Pinto with any sort of care put into its safe keeping.
We have had a blast getting this car ready for sale and taking it out for photos and driving video. Easy to drive, fires right up, and runs down the road with the ease. No doubt the Mustangs and F-100's of the world will always be more valuable than the humble Pinto, but these cars are proving that they are actually getting better with age.

I had a Pinto in 1974. It was a good, tough car. Never let me down.

@Larry From Wisconsin very nice. My neighbor has a 1978 Turquoise Ford Pinto, and he’s owned it for decades, and i would absolutely LOVE to make it a Sunday driver to drive out to car shows. But the crazy thing is, I don’t know whether it’s an automatic or manual because I’ve only seen my neighbor drive it TWICE in the whole time I’ve been alive (I’m only 15), but it’s a very clean car, 66,000 original miles, original paint still shines even though it sat out in his driveway for a while. It’s been down at a storage unit for 3 years and I’ve been dying to see it again, because if somebody saw a turquoise Ford Pinto driving down the road here on Vancouver Island British Columbia where I live, they would be like “what the hell?!” Just the rarest sight ever. You never even see them at car shows. It would sure be cool to have the only turquoise Pinto on the island, that you take to car shows. I absolutely LOVE Sunday driver cars, for car shows, they are so much fun to own and work on.

My great grandmother was born in 1914, and she didn't learn to drive until the 1970s. Her first car was a Pinto that looked pretty much identical to this one.

@Rd Bull oh yeah, my neighbor here on Vancouver Island British Columbia, has a shiny Terquiose 1978 model (not a wagon), but it’s got 66,000 original miles, and he’s owned it for decades, and I’m actually planning on going over there and asking him about it, might wanna buy it as a Sunday driver and take it to car shows, it’s absolutely RARE as hell to see one ANYWHERE these days, but unfortunately he put it in a storage unit 3 years ago so I don’t know what it looks like, but it’s very nice, but the crazy thing is I don’t know if it’s an auto or manual. Guess I’ll have to play the fun guessing game😂. It’s an amazing car the more I think about it I just DONT UNDERSTAND how it is still here after 45 years with the original paint still almost MINT, it still shines it’s just 10% oxidized. Bet it’s the only one on Vancouver Island definitely. Rarer than a city with zero potholes

The family car, when I turned 16, was a 72 white Pinto wagon. I absolutely loathed it. Now, at 60, I would love to have it back. It had a huge cargo area and was pretty comfortable. It went from Calif. to British Columbia (and on a ferry boat) and my Dad was gas conscious so he'd drive up I-5 at 55 mph (it would barely make it up hills) then, my Mom would drive when he slept and she'd wind it out and floor it to like 80 (which was a fast as I think it went) to get up the hills/mtns. He'd wake up and the whole car was vibrating etc. Then we'd drive it all the way into Mexico to Ensenada (with insurance) That pinto got around! My Dad washed it and waxed it and is always looked lovely. I'd love to have it back. And I've had BMW's MBZ's, Lincolns etc. Isn't that weird and I'd love a freaking pinto.

No, not at all. My parents also bought a brand new 1972 Pinto in November of 1972. It was white with green vinyl and houndstooth cloth interior. Automatic, and factory A/C. It was gutless, but it had personality. I loved that car, which became mine in 1980 after my brother sold it to me when he joined the service. I got the car bug and bought my first new car so i sold it to my friend in 1981. I missed that Pinto, so much that I bought another 1972 Runabout in 1983 that was one step away from the crusher. I fixed it up and drove it til 1990 when I bought my first house and I sold it. I've been sorry about that ever since. Their is something about Pintos that is like no other car, at least most cars that I've ever owned, and I've had a bunch a different cars.

@@rickloera9468 you’re right, there was something about them. They were so easy to drive. A seven year old could have done it. I remember taking it to the drive in and having 2-3 of my girlfriends laying in the back under a blanket so we could sneak them in. The ticket guy probably didn’t give a hoot. I also went around a corner in our neighborhood too st in the rain and found out what a fishtail was, lol. But it hopped the curb and made deep tire ruts in a neighbors front lawn. My Dad sold it in the 80’s to a kid who worked at Grand Auto for a dollar. The kid was thrilled but we never saw it again 😔. Then my Dad bought a 1980 Ford Fiesta (thinking it was up to par with a German car, lol) it was also gutless wonder but cute. I miss those days.

@@rickloera9468- yep I know exactly what you mean about the pintos it’s like the get in your blood or something. I think part of it was the handling and the way everything just felt right in the driver’s seat especially with the 4 speed, it was easy to . They were kinda gutless with a automatic transmission but the 4speed and a little engine work and they really came alive

Had the same car. Drove that blue '73 Pinto Hatchback with the 2.0 and 4-speed between September, 1979 and June 1981 in all kinds of weather in Northern Michigan while attending college in Traverse City. That was an indestructible car that took me 30,000 miles with the only issue being ignition points every 5,000 miles (new ones at K-Mart were about $3) but I kept emery paper in the car and dressed them occasionally. The ignition switch failed on one of my trips, but I ran a jumper wire from the battery to the positive coil wire and made it home. Junk yard parts were super cheap. I folded the driver's door on a January Sunday in a harvested Christmas tree field with a foot of snow on the ground and then removed the folded door and drove 30 miles back to the college with no driver's door in January. Next day, a Monday, I bought a door from a salvage yard for $5 and kept driving it. That Pinto was a Warrior.

The pinto was a great car for the day back then, they got a lot bad press about catching fire if rear ended but Ford had a recall and fixed the problem even though statistically they had less fires than most cars of the period. I had a 72 and I loved it I was the second owner and put well over 500 thousand miles on it. In my opinion they were very well built , it handled well and was very comfortable on long road trips or around town plus I got 30 mpg in town and 40-42 mpg on the freeway running 70+ . The original owner was a Ford technician and put a header and a offenhauser intake manifold with a Weber side draft carburetor , like I said it got really good mpg and was actually very quick my brothers 66 GTO couldn’t keep up with me below 70 miles per hour 😂

I have a 1974 Runabout with 28,950 miles (on it currently). Original paint and vinyl top. Still has the original engine stickers. I was going to put a period-correct AK Miller turbo kit on the 2.0 (auto) but it is too original to butcher. Besides, I have a 1971 full race Trans-Am spec Lotus Twin-Cam powered Pinto for my need for speed. The car was converted to race spec when it had only 26.500 original miles. The car is homologated for racing with the Lotus engine because of a 1973 "Hanto Pinto" (do a search). The Hanto Pinto was a prototype presented to Ford for possible production but Ford turned it down. There was a write up about it in "Ford Times" at the time. Chevrolet came out with the Cosworth Vega a couple of years later. Coincidence?

That is beautiful!, all of those cars from that era have been scrapped by now. They were like the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage of the 80s, people drove them, beat the ever living shit out of it, scrap it and never look back. Cash for clunkers also killed what was left of them.

"All of them" sounds like a knowledgeable and declarative statement. There are still plenty of them, but unfortunately, many are still finding their way to junk yards instead of the hands of people trying to save them. I have three myself, and a buddy has several. I know plenty of folks with them. This particular one in this video is very nice.
