Today we're taking a look at the this GPS605D bench power supply provided by Banggood. We'll see how it's assembled & how good it operates.

I have the KPS3010DF, it looks identical to that one. I've had it about a year and no problems.

That psu looks very usable john, it's a switchmode so you might want to put a low pass filter on the terminals for sensitive circuits :-). Good heavy inductors may be all that's needed. This is a time where the company name Bang Good is not so good for a power supply lol :-D. Some electronic lighting can create hell of a noise, switchers :-(. Check your house or workbench for a good earth john, no earth loops if possible. Hark at me telling a pro like you, you should tell me to get knotted and mind my own business lol :-D. I'm not sure if your audio level is lower than normal, or my hearing is playing up, Call me "mr tuning fork head" :-D

Hi Harv, hope your doing ok. If I remember I'll shove a LP filter on the output just to observe the differences. I wana get rid of the noise in the house system first though. It's annoying me just knowing it's there. :D Believe it or not there were no LED lights on during the test Harv, I made sure of that, and even stuck a couple of 60W filament lamps in to make the video. As far as the audio goes Harv It 'should be' the same. Unless I've budged the knob on me mixer slightly by mistake. It's always finally set up to be at -23LUFS and compressed in Adobe Audition. Although each audio file is checked and sometimes reduced by RU-vid if it's sensed as too loud, but I don't use loud levels so that's a bit weird. I'll double check everything though. Ahh it has to be my ears then, i've noticed a wide range of volume levels on youtubers videos. There are daft people that are determined to try to talk over a running car/truck engine, they never win lol. I hope you fix the noise problem, annoying when it messes with your tests :-( Never connect a laptop to an audio device without an audio isolation transformer, the laptop charger creates a right row. Ill leave you in peaces lol :-D

@@zx8401ztv .. No you're lugs are probably right Harv.. I trust them so I'll check the audio out 👍 LOL.. Understood.. I used to have a laptop with a real cheapo PSU.. You didn't need to have music on the laptop. It had it's own :D

I have added ferrites to small switch mode supplies to try and filter out some of the noise, it helps a bit, some inductors and parallel caps would help it too, apart from the display and the output noise and overshoot it looks OK, nice build quality by the looks of it.

I'll will try some filtering on the PSU mate. Might do another vid on it actually. I want to trace that switching noise on the mains first though. It's really annoying. Cheers, John

Yes I have a lot of issues here with large amounts of EMI and RFI affecting low level readings, I purchased a high voltage differential probe early this year, it comes in handy sometimes, one day I will do a video on it!

John - did you get a chance to observe for voltage overshoot at power on?

Hi Dino.. Yes the overshoot at 24mins was at power on my friend. The PSU was actually switched ON at it's front panel.. But to capture the overshoot I switched the power on from the mains plug. Cheers, John

I have one of these and the inrush current limiting thermistor cracked and fell apart. Would anyone be able tell me what PN is on the side of it? Trying to get a replacement part. Thanks

@13:00 the voltage difference will be due to drop in the cables.

oo yuck... that was my first reaction to that display...I don't like blue displays they are much harder to read.

To be honest Scott I didn't really do the display any favours in the video, I thought it was clear and bright myself.. sometimes red displays tend to blend together a bit for me.. maybe I'm just more sensitive to blues though. Dunno. Cheers mate, John

Some cameras don't like the blue either, so it may not of helped. I have had equipment with blue backlit LCD displays (not by choice) and they have faded after a year or so and can no longer be read, so my negative experience with them isn't in its favour.

No, the power supply has built-in short circuit protection.

It gives 5A @ 60V. Will it give 5A or 10A @ 30V?

The max current output is 5A, this is the limit at any voltage.

Hi John, I know the situation you are in as I also have a RU-vid channel and Banggood are very keen to send me stuff to review as well. You can end up feeling guilty for not running something, but I know I shouldn’t. Therefore I have a policy that says I will only include a short review as a logical part of the main video, and it has to be something required to solve the next problem in the project. So a 40 minute video may have a 5-10 minute review which people can skip past. Doing it this way makes me feel better about the whole thing and seems to work for all.
