Sonic is an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog (although referred to by Tec Toy, a Sega representative in Brazil, as a porcupine) [1], able to run at supersonic speed and curl up like a ball, primarily to attack enemies. He is one of the fastest fictional characters in the world, and his main goal is to save the other animals from the villain Dr. Eggman (also called Dr. Robotnik in some western adaptations), who turns them into robots to work for him as slaves.
Sonic was created to replace Alex Kidd, who held the rank of Sega mascot. While several individuals have influenced Sonic's creation, programmer Yuji Naka and artist Naoto Ohshima are often credited with creating the character. It is also regarded as one of the biggest icons of video games next to its biggest rival Nintendo Super Mario where they were prominent in the 90s.
Sonic is notorious for being extremely fast, adventurous and brave. Always fight for justice, freedom, compassion and the defenseless. Face all the dangers to help others, facing everything as a challenge. But he also likes to relax and rest, also being lazy. Sonic is never modest with his skills, often being horny.
He has made a lot of friendships, especially since the second game. He becomes Super as he gathers the seven Chaos Emeralds: so he has yellow fur, his thorns are erect, his eyes are red and almost invincible, being vulnerable only by the decay of his rings.
Sonic was redesigned along with other characters in the saga. Its current appearance has larger thorns, green pupils and a brighter, more vivid blue color, and is much thinner and taller.
