@@KnapperJackCrafty .. You're very welcome. When I was young, many yrs ago, my brother and I would walk the freshly plowed fields near my grandmothers home in a little Alabama community called Fairview. The fields were located along a small creek, which was named Yellow Creek, and another much smaller creek which branched off into what was called Little Creek. We found and collected several nice atlatl points, all made from red Tuscaloosa chert. Some were perfect, others were chipped or broken, but we kept them all. One day, while walking the fields my brother found a large biface.. probably two and a half inches at the base and 4 inches in length, one of the best we had ever found. Not long after that my step father was killed in an automobile accident, and a few yrs later, my mother re-married and we moved away. Sadly, in the move, all was lost. The fields are all overgrow with pines now, and my grandmother passed long ago, but I still find myself thinking back to those warm summer days, spent at grandmaws home in Alabama, walking the fields in search of stone age tools. Your videos are a great inspiration to me, and I greatly appreciate the skills you have, and your devotion to sharing it with others. You are truly a blessing.

One of the best parts of your videos is how you recover from mistakes. After the tip snap and deep flake at 16:00 I would have pitched the flake into the mistakes can and started over :-)

Wow, you salvaged the heck out of that point! Once that tip snapped, I️ like how you just kept chipping away like it never happened. It was interesting to see how you worked around it. Pretty amazing point, bud. That’s a killer for sure!

Thanks. The heat treated stone is nice to work with but it snaps sooo easily. I'm used to it by now.

Jack, new to flintknapoing. What is metal pointed tool used after hammerstone, and what is supporting it when you knap edges and appear to be using both hands? Is the other end of tool resting on your work area surface? Thanks!
@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty 7 лет назад
The tool is called a "horizontal punch" and if you go back into my other videos you can see me holding the punch behind my knee. (See my " Gunther arrowhead" video, for example). :-)

Wow I've seen a few like this people doing this but sir that's amazing. I wish I had this talent to make some arrow heads being can't find any can't even find Flint rock anywhere. Messed up to down the road there dropping the lake due to broken spillway. A man found well over 100 arrowheads and other stuff. But after the fact I went out it was so hot I couldnt do no digging which he found his almost on top so would there be any under ground this has been a lake 30 40 50 well long time and there's a big dirt mound that waters on 3 sides only the side were the road is it only dirt all the rest water and now weeds grown was almost 2 years since the flood and water went down. Do you think K digger down a ft here and there may find stuff being the this was well none Indian grounds. But I loved your video thanks if you don't mind ide like to sub and watch more. Thanks again have a great week god bless

Hi. I was wondering about the serrations. What exactly is the purpose of them? Is it to cut better, like a steak knife? Or are they just ornamental? Also, do the serrations break off when the arrowhead is used? Thank you for these videos. Your peaceful, calm way of working makes me peaceful and calm. I look forward to watching all of your new videos, and one of these days, I will actually try doing this myself. Not sure where to start though.
@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty 7 лет назад
The purpose of serrations was to make the edge more deadly once inside the wound. Penetration tests have shown that they don't make much difference, however. But we don't have a humane way of testing if serrations cause more pain or bleeding, which is followed by a subduing effect, for instance. And yes, many of the serrations break off, or become dull, when used.

Hey, all. I started watching flintknapping last week and find it very interesting to watch. One question though. What do you do with all these handmade arrowheads once they're done? I hope someone can answer this as I've yet to see anyone ask this. Thanks all.
@KnapperJackCrafty
@KnapperJackCrafty 6 лет назад
I gave away this arrowhead to one of my patrons. Most of mine are disply pieces but they can be and are used for hunting in States that allow it.

Yes. There are many "spiral blade" artifacts found in places not far from where I live. I've made a few. You just need to start with a thick preform and do some extreme bevelling.

It would be better to me if you used natural tools like antler. You're good enough obviously, and the only reason people are interested in this stuff is the fascination with the ancient people and how they did things so why take away from that when you could stick to their way? Just my opinion.
