First weekend back at Summit Point since the brake failure and wreck back in April 2023. The weekend got off to a rough start with a trailer tire blowout on the way to the track (and finished with another one on the way home), but I was able to turn a bunch of laps and collect some good data on the car.
It was HOT all weekend with temperatures up to 98*F ambient for the Saturday afternoon sessions. With it being so hot and with knowing I was going to be timid through turns 4 and 5 after the wreck, I set a relatively conservative goal of sub-1:23. By Saturday afternoon in the high heat I was consistently running in the 22s, so for the early morning session on Sunday I decided to make the push for 21s.
These laps were the three fastest from that morning session. I was originally going to shut it down after the first 1:21.6 as I was happy with the result, but after a cool down lap I decided to push again. Laid down a sloppy 21.8 so went back to back and finished with my fastest lap of the weekend of 1:21.5.
The CR-S take offs that I've been using this season were up to 30 heat cycles for this session and they were howling all weekend. I was plowing through the slow corners late into sessions and was getting a ton of rotation with light throttle application. But they sure held up great in the end. They are now down to 2/32's and I think this was the last weekend for them. I'm overall very impressed with them as a "street" tire.
Otherwise the car continued to run great with the oil temp sitting comfortably at 259*F even in the highest heat of the day and water temp hovering around 230*F. I'd like to get the water temp down a bit, but that will probably wait for whatever front end changes happen this off-season.
Next up: back to VIR in August on some 275/35 Maxxis RC-1s I have from last year's Hyperfest. I'm curious to see how they hold up.

Amazing what a Corvette with basic upgrades can do. Great video and even better driving. Thanks for sharing!

They are indeed incredibly capable cars, even 20 years later. Thanks for watching!
