I would assume that if the heatsink model is not thicker than 1.5mm, then it should fit in no problems. BUT, if it's a 4mm type heatsink they use for desktops, I don't think that would fit in. Overall THIS model is NOT that super-thin, so if nothing else, you could put on heatsink pads with a top copper plate I think.
I have an Acer Neo 16 PHN16-71 and I think that the settings will be the same From the boot menu, go to Advanced Settings -> Main Menu and press CTRL+S and new hidden options will open. For more experienced users, before booting the laptop, hold down FN+Tab and hold for 5 seconds, then press the boot button and release FN+Tab and click on F2. If you did everything correctly, you should see 2 Advanced options
hows that possible tried everything as you said in my predator but able to see only 1 Advanced menu... no matter what i did ...i just wanted to undervolt ....the cpu...did you use some kind modded bios..😢😢😢
I Did this to mine as well and it worked perfectly first boot after memory training… Because it’s DDR5, It will memory train for about 3 min and will boot … i9 13th mobile supports 64gig ..
I've never heard of the "training" before I've tried the update, but eventually figured it out. However, the speed still reads 5200 instead of 5600 Mhz, though I have the latest BIOS.
@@mrgclips iv got the newer version PREDATOR PHN16-72 and cpu i9 14th generation. Iv been looking all over the internet and cant confirm if I can put 64GB of ram in my laptop, any ideas?
@@mrgclips thanks for the reply! Do you think I can choose other brands or stick with crucial as they seem to be making RAM specifically to cover as many laptops as possible. Even if the manufacturer says the max is 32GB. Nervous about installing 64gb but need it for work so will give it go and let you know the outcome.
At the time of my upgrade, Crucial was the ONE and ONLY chip maker that had answered me directly to my questions regarding the upgrade, and they had guaranteed (!!!) that the chips would work with my specific model! The others either referred me directly back to the manufacturer or could not guarantee compatibility.
hello, nice video. But let me ask you... you bought a 5200Mhz ram or the laptop reduced the frequency? Mine is 16gb 5600Mhz OEM, and i`m thinking on upgrading to 32gb or 64gb but keeping the 5600mhz on them. Thanks.
I've bought the 5600Mhz RAM, but the system only recognizes it as 5200Mhz, even though I have the latest BIOS. When I've had the original factory 32GB RAMs, they showed 5600Mhz. Oh, and by the way, my 2 x 16GB RAM modules are now up for sale! LOL! :D
The original factory DDR5s are most definitely 5600Mhz. The upgrades are as well, however, they are only indicated as 5200Mhz, but I hope the next BIOS upgrade would fix it.
How did you manage to remove the cover? I have the same screws set, tried to open the Helios neo 16, removed all the screws, but the cover just doesn’t come out, even if i force it with all my strength and with that little orange plastic tool. Is there another seal that I don’t see, other than the screws? They’re 11 right?
Well first of: NEVER force anything! If something is not opening up, there must be a reason! But if you removed all screws, then with a bit of force, you should be able to find an opening with that plastic tool, after which the whole back should come off. Be careful though, because at the back there you have the lighting bar, so be very gentle not to damage your precious laptop. I was just as nervous the first time, after which I opened up my laptop a bunch of times without any issues for further upgrades (SSD, RAM, Thermal, WiFi-7), general cleaning, a micro sd card accidently got pushed into the laptop under its socket, LOL! :D ).
@@mrgclips man that just sucks. do you have any knowledge of how we can bypass the block ? for a laptop which is in high end category and expensive machine idk how acer , i mean all of their competitors are providing so much customization. how come acer doesnt realize this
I think they're worried about warranty and such in case people mess around with the system and then burn out their computer or something. But I agree, I was very surprised myself when I saw how limited the BIOS was.
@@mrgclips Oh I see , btw i was also looking to buy helios too with rtx 4070 But the main concern was that the fans were too loud, can you tell me how the laptop performs in quiet mode ? What happens if i game in quiet mode? Because i wanted this laptop not for gaming but for all of my work. Also can you briefly tell me any issues and your personal opinions for this thing? Thanks in Advance!!
Well, depends on the game, but if it's a CPU/GPU intensive game, then the CPU will get VERY HOT, pretty much 100 Celsius, so you don't wanna do that! The simple fact is that "performance" requires "cooling" and in a gaming laptop like this, it is achieved by 2 hard working cooling fans! I myself have upgraded to have a cooling pad underneath my laptop, BECAUSE of the constant overheating issue, which I will demonstrate in a Tech Review about the cooler, why did I pick THAT particular configuration vs others, how it works, pros and cons, etc. But yeah, gaming requires cooling!
Hello. Thank you very much for the information. I wonder if it is still working stable? I am a video editor too. I have the same computer. I will upgrade to Samsung 990 4Tb and Curcial 64 gb ram soon. Also my current 1tb micron ssd gets very hot 70-74 degrees centigrade. i need to find a way to cool it down. will pads work?
No issues so far, and yes, I've installed cooling thermal solutions on both the SSDs and the RAM chips, but the greatest result was delivered by the dedicated laptop cooling system! Now I can see up to 20-30 Celsius lower temps than before. Links: - Laptop Cooler: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YQdygM6Jths.html - RAM and SSD heatsinks: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E3MmK3uUAYw.html Highly recommended!
This is exactly the issue I have on mine, except the light won't even turn on... all I see is the charging indicator on the side. I've left the new RAM in a while now, have I wrecked something?
Unlikely! Check your CPU model to see how much RAM can it handle, try re-installing the original chips, then try again (after confirmation of compatibility) with the new ones. But yeah, it scared the living crap outta me too, when nothing worked! :O
Has your system been stable? I was told on acer forums that 32gb is the max, but I've people like you that have added 64gb. Some of them said after a while they started to get memory errors and BSODs.
@@mrgclips First thing I did was updated bios, then got rid of all of the bloatware. I installed the 2TB SSD and 64gb of Kingston Fury 5600 CL40 ram and it worked no problem. Took probably 2 minutes to boot up. I'm gonna buy some thermal pads next. Thanks for the videos. It was super simple.
@KarlParl hey! Could you explain how you removed the bloatware and which one? I just ordered the PHN16-72-99PA and am trying to figure out how to best optimize it.
I have the latest BIOS, but it still reads 5200 Mhz. I'm hoping that later BIOS updates would fix it, but in worse scenario, I can live with 5200 also.
Hello All, i was in the position of not knowing whether Crucial ct2k32g56c46s5 64GB was going to work on my Predator Helios Neo 16 PHN16-72. Well i have installed the ram into my laptop and can confirm its running at 5600MHZ and so far have had no problems. The difference between PHN16-71 and my model is the fact they bought out a BIOS update that allows 32GB ram recently. I have run benchmark tests for the ram and confirm it got 174% Outstanding result (compared to average 146%). But be aware that this worked for me (iv only run it for a couple of hours/problems may occur in the future) please be careful when installing. Especially with that poor construction of an ethernet lid that i broke when installing it. Appreciate the video @mrgclips and good luck to future installers!
@@HIRA_RANDOMS Its now been two months and i have had no problems with Predator Helios Neo 16 PHN16-72.upgraded to 64GB DDR5 i use heavy apps like adobe after effects, photoshop and Davinci Resolve. no problems at all, just be careful
@@mrgclips Oh yess sir it did! thank you very much! Now finding a new challenge with the Predator sense software, that sometimes when you restart your system doesn't load up properly.
Lots of people, including me, have had problems after Predator Sense self-updated itself. The best solution is to go and download the latest version from Acer, remove the current one from your computer, re-install the new one, restart your PC and then re-set all the settings again you've had before, such as keyboard lighting and such.
Should be compatible in my opinion. The max RAM however is mostly dependent on the CPU, so if you have a Gen 13 / 14 Intel i9, then you shouldn't have any problems upgrading.
And by the way for storage i am looking at Samsung 990 pro with heatsink that has a height of 8.88 mm so i have a question that is the laptop having enough space to fit that thick ssd in it or i would have to go with the one thats without heatsink, i asked because i heard that those ssds heat a lot coz they are the fastest ( note I am asking this question before opening my pc just to be sure )
Hey mate, i am confused, i went to the crucial website and non of the ram looks compatible like the one in your video here, i have the ACER predator Helios 16 , with i9 13900HX, with RTX 4070 , 16 GB of ram, can i upgrade it to 64GB ? Please let me know
I've used the exact same model I linked to on Amazon: amzn.to/4a2Gmv5 - and they worked perfectly, except they scared the living s...t outta me when they refused to boot, because I didn't know the chips "train" themselves, so just install them and wait till the system reboots.
To the best of my knowledge, absolutely YESSS! :) BUT, if you're worried, then just upgrade to 32GB (2X16) and I guarantee you'll see the difference immediately, just how much smoother your system will run. However, if you're a content creator and run heavy programs simultaneously all the time (like I do), then most definitely go for the 64GB upgrade!
Hi. I have the same laptop too. I checked on the Acer care Center website with my product number. It only show max upgrade ram is 32? I’m sorry. I don’t know much about upgrading computer.
I'm not sure that the sockets can handle 48GB of RAM each, but I wouldn't be surprised if they could. Please let us know how did your upgrade go? Honestly, I've never got close to using all 64GB of RAM in my system. I have topped out at around 46GB when using everything. :D
It shouldn't take all night obviously, so I would go and ask the manufacturer's Tech Team for advice, specifically for the laptop model with all the specs you have, so they could run a check and maybe a remote diagnostics to see what's going on.
Well, my system runs the 5,600Mhz units, but after the upgrade the new ones only run at 5,200Mhz, so I guess we just need to wait till an upgraded BIOS is released.
hey, not sure if you still check this comment section but are you still selling your 2 x 16gb sticks, i’m looking to buy them to upgrade my helios which only has 2 x 8gb sticks atm, ill be in nyc around some time next week so it’ll be really convenient, thanks in advance.
Yes, actually I still have the original 2 X 16GB 5,600Mhz factory RAM modules, so just hit me up at my email address if you come to the city for pickup. (MrGClips at Gmail)
Hi! Yes and No! The system indicates 4 RAM slots, which may be connection points, but there are only 2 actual usable physical sockets on the motherboard.
In my humble opinion, it is the BIOS that can't recognize the RAM chips' proper speed, so hopefully they will fix that issue in later BIOS updates. But in games, I don't think you'll be able to visually see any difference.
It seems as your BIOS can't recognize your RAM's speed. The same here! Mine are also 5,600Mhz, but the BIOS only shows 5,200. Hopefully later updates will fix that.
Will it work on Acer predator helios neo 16 i7 13700HX rtx 4060 (PHN16-71-78R1) can i upgrade to 64gb ram i have 16gb ram inbuilt also i have 1tb ssd can i upgrade upto 4tb ssd
Well, give it a try with 64GB, but don't be surprised if the clock speed will only read 4800Mhz instead of 5600. The higher RAM would require additional sockets, if I'm correct, because a single RAM socket may not be able to handle or read ultra large capacity chips. Best if you ask technicians about it.
Today I have upgraded to 32 GIG and speed of RAM reduced to 5200 from 5600 maybe due to two slots of usage it reduced the speed. Try single module of 64GIG May be 5600 MHz
HUGE difference! Now, when I run my web browser with all those tabs, running 2 different video editors, my 3D animation software and start doing some creative work, especially during 4K video editing, Task Manager shows that I'm WAY over the previously available 32GB RAM use, but without any "warning messages" about "please close some of your programs to free up memory" and such. LOL! :) I just added thermal coolers for my SSDs and RAMs, and in the process of making a video, because for laptops, all available cooling is a good idea for heavy users. So YES, definitely worth the upgrade! :)
@@mrgclips great, I have the i7 4060 version, and I don't really put it under a lot of pressure, but I'll definitely upgrade at least to 32 GB, it came with 16. I will suscribe, but I have a little request, you would be the first, and should be if you uploaded a video tutorial for disassembling the cooler and replacing the liquid metal. I've not seen any other content creator doing it to this model yet.
Messing around with the factory used liquid metal cooler solution is WAAAAY out of my range! LOL! :D I would never dream of taking that apart. But I have a simple idea of solving the overheating problem.
@@mrgclips That's the thing, we will need to that sooner or later, specially you, with your configuration running hotter than mine. I actually upgraded my previous Nitro 5 to use liquid metal, and I found out that even Conductonaut starts to falter and harden if exposed to temperatures over 80c for long periods of time, and my nitro 5 run hot, so I had to replace liquid metal like once a year, the last few times I had to use a fine sand paper to remove the hardened liquid metal from the copper... Fortunatelly my Helios 16 runs at 75c average.
I'm considering a higher quality and design laptop cooler in order to bring down the CPU temp, which is the only one kind o' bothers me, since it can jump up to even 100 C for short periods of time under heavy load, while under normal operation the system is around 63 C. But honestly, the CPU overheating is nothing new to me after having at least a dozen laptops over the years, some of them were custom made to my own specs.
Greetings. Will helios 18 on 14900HX, which is basically same laptop (in term of internals) with 18" screen, support crucial 2x48gb ram ? maybe not on 5600mhz, but on 5200mhz or 4800mhz, which is also accaptable.
I've considered it, but I was warned that probably the sockets won't be able to handle anything larger than 32GB each. However, I can't tell, so if you do the 2 X 48GB upgrade, please let us know! Good luck! :)
@@mrgclips I'm planning to buy Helios 18 in the first place :D just researching upgrade options :) I'm now using ooooooooold lenovo G570 which startet life as i3-2350m (2core/4thread) + 4gb single channel ram, which I upgraded to i7-2760QM (4core/8thread) + 16gb dual channel memory, with radiator upgrade from dedicated gpu models, as i7 is 45W vs 35w i3 (radiator from dedicated gpu models have larger heatpipe), also I modified it, as it won't fit bolt on (a little different internal structure) Do you also consider upgrading cooling system with more copper ?
