Today we saw a Beautiful Cherry Log on the Woodmizer LX 150, This log came from a blowdown tree that was deep in the valley. I couldn't recover the log until we got the Wallenstein FX 85 Skidding Winch.

She doesn't know how to take it easy. Glad your doing better. Happy birthday Evea. Mike if you have forced air heating. You need to use a humidifier. Forced air heat will cause you to feel stuffed up. Because it drys you out. Also you can use saline in your nose. It really helps. God bless

Beautiful looking wood,..my dear ol' father would have loved to be able to work with this wood! He loved working with wood, and took pride in bringing out and preserving the grains of nice wood like this. Perhaps I strayed from the topic here, but looking at those planks, reminded me of him and his work shop hobby days!

Mike save the slabs wood to stack your logs on to keep them up off the ground so they do not draw moisture and rot
@sawyerrob949
@sawyerrob949 4 года назад
A couple things: Why didn't or didn't you edge those outer flitches? And, I don't understand why you don't "grade saw" your logs, when you have a higher grade log, like that cherry? You are missing out on some higher grade lumber, big time by sawing them the way that you do. SR

That saw mill sure is sweet . The only thing that drives me nuts about the mill is that you walk on the side that the saw dust is ejected . The Wallenstein FX 85 Skidding Winch has certainly made it possible to get logs that previously would have just rotted in the woods . Was looking at a video on the Wallenstein log splitter . That company makes all kinds of stuff . The best part is that Wallenstein products are made in Canada . Made with Canadian LOVE . Mike you have cut quite a few boards so far . Where do you store your boards . You must have quite a buddle by now . Happy Birthday Eva . Won't be long when she'll be borrowing your truck when she gets her driving license .

mike - Great music to go with the video. Didn't understand why you were cutting off the end of that log, but you explained it very well. Perhaps a less than intelligent question, but why do you keep turning the log as you cut boards from it? If you needed wide boards wouldn't you want to keep cutting all the way down? I'm learning, so help me with this. Thanks from Davenport, Iowa.

Hey Mike, I stopped the video at 12:30 cause a thought hit me... Have you thought about at the time you've exposed all 4 sides of the log to turn and inspect it for the best looking flow/face of the grain in the wood? Doing so would allow you to pick the prettiest, best looking boards. Not doing so you might cut the best side up into becoming the sides of boards and not the faces of them... Something you might do off camera and we're just not seeing, but if not, just a thought. Beautiful Cherry Dude!👍
@chriswatts4145
@chriswatts4145 4 года назад
Hey Mike, I'm not a logger or know anything about your woodmiser. Can you explain why you use the compression spikes directly on the wood being cut or could you use sacra fictional wood to keep from damaging the lumber? I know you're not selling the lumber but just curious how much damage it actually has to the lumber. Same with the log roller spike.

Beautiful cherry log/lumber. Curious to what you will sticker your boards with ? I like to use the same type of wood for stickers to avoid cross staining your beautiful boards usually taken from the first couple cuts off the log. Now that 'live edge' boards have become a popular thing, I'm not too sure what to use for stickers. If you get around to reading this post, I've been subscribed for a few months now and although I don't see every vid you post, I enjoy the ones I do catch. I'm currently out "shopping" in my 100 acre treed land for a nice cherry tree to turn into a new floor for my camper. I'm located a few hours north of you in eastern Ontario and my first post to your channel. Oh, by the way, have you figured out the best way to sharpen your bandsaw blades yet ?

Hi Mike, would it not be easier if you raised the sawmill. Travel wheels, leveling jacks would be the way to go. With the mill higher it would save the back. You have the equipment to load the logs, you would be able to move the mill anytime anywhere anyplace.

Wondering, if it is such a beautiful log, why you cut nearly 4 feet off the end in 18 or 20 inch chunks before you ever started sawing? Remembering the old adage; "waste not, want not". That was easily a coffee table top, 2 bedside dresser tops, or about 50 table-top drink coasters. Seems like some pretty pricey Cherry wood kindling. Is the profit on the heart of a log so good you can just trash the rest?
