A compromised voltage source can be upstream of an appliance, at the appliance (terminal block), or even internal to the appliance (i.e. on a circuit board), as long as the load (like a motor) that depends on the voltage is downstream of the loose connection that precludes the load from obtaining the designed amount of current. So the voltage source (as the load see it), is compromised. This is why some of the examples of loose connections I showed in the video aren't actually physically upstream of the appliance.

Does this apply only to AC?

Some meters have a LoZ mode for both AC and DC. Here is one example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DbcPnscxR2M.html
