66 mustang front suspension overhaul 

I just went through this entire suspension process, not trying to be critical but here we go. 1) First you need to tighten everything to specs, don't guess. For example, attaching the spring perch to the UCA should be tighten to 37 ft/pounds, almost all suspension components have a spec. Know all of them prior to installing everything. 2) Next and much less important is the cleaning behind the coil, you cannot clean this area without removing the shock and coil in the future with everything installed, this is a golden opportunity to clean this area before you reinstall the upper control arm and spring. Tip - Brake cleaner will clean this area quickly. 3) Next, once this are is clean apply some kind of rust protection like POR15. suspension 5) Know your parts, Strut Rods connect to the LCA, Upper and lower tie rods are another component name etc ...

Put a 1 1/2 inch long piece of 1/2 pipe on the top end of the spring compressor bolt instead of cutting it.

Just FYI- Both sets of "rubber snubbers" are for the bottom shock mounts. Upper shock already has a bushing.

I keep looking at these videos because I'm ready to work on my 66. Front and rear suspension. Plus fuel tank and everything that goes with it (fuel line.) And brake lines too. Lol.

This was a must do for me just be careful with those springs.

Try and center the spring compressor in the center of the spring. The angle you had it one makes it dangerous when you compress the spring. You did a great job installing the suspension!

Suggestion: put a nut on the threaded end of the spring compressor then drill through and install a pin to hold it. Now you can use it upside with the threaded end sticking out of the top. Also grab the spring as close to the top and bottom.

What kind of grease did you use for the UCA? love the videos! super helpful

About 3 decades ago when I did mine I used a torch to relax and collapse the old springs. I think I had to heat 2 coils red hot for this. They come out afterward without a spring compressor. The new springs I bought fit right in without a spring compressor.
