Here is an "old school" lesson in rebuilding old style brakes. Except this is for Oliver's Parade Wagon. Enjoy! Support: www.patreon.com/rosastringworks Website: www.rosastringworks.com
If theres a next time Jerry assemble the bottom spring and adjuster first to both lower shoes. Then Install both brake shoes by spreading them a little to fit into the wheel cylinder pins on both sides of the cylinder simultaneously .Then deal with the rest of the springs and other parts..... Dont know of many who assemble one side at a time..but you got it ,HA!
As a teen, all of my cars had at least one axle equipped with drum brakes. I was fortunate that my dad had one of those drum brake tools that made disassembly and reassembly pretty easy. When I didn't have access to the tool, as you demonstrated, good pliers and a long screwdriver did the trick!
Made a living as a mechanic for years. Dirt road travellers seem to get a silt inside old wheel cylinders that corrode the systems. Lots of work there . Great video, Jerry 😊
Reminds me of my youth and the old cars i could afford wrestled with many a brake cylinder i too had mighty thumbs then for the retaining springs also had a mtal bar made by my cousin pete for shoe fighting it had two hooks that fitted the shoes and became a lever it was excellent ( btw dont mix oil nd brake fluid !) happy Paddy's Day all 🍀☘️🍀
Jerry, if you pull the bottom of the brake pads out off the lower keeper the brake springs will release their tension so you don't have to pull so hard to release them. Same with going back in, you put the springs on then pull the brake lining into the keeper. Mae the job just a little easier. Also, if you break the brake line fitting before you loosen the cylinder you'll find it's easier as well. Ask me how I know.
I am fascinated by your interesting and diverse channel Mr. Rosa. I had to sub you. like # 321. I have many interests myself. Guitar as art and instrument is among them. Thanks for this channel. All the best, Pablo Apollo.
I was thinking the same thing until he said it was from an International. Not sure how easy it would be to find a wheel cylinder for an old International axle.
They are out there. You just need to know the year … but that’s OK. It important thing is that it all came together successfully. I don’t want to be one of ‘THOSE GUYS’ on a forum that talks out of their lower orifice…
