Outstanding tests guys! Whether the groups are good or bad, the data you gathered is still extremely valuable, and you got a lot of it. Smooth, rifled choke, rifled barrel, raw cast balls, and tumbled balls. Keep up the good work guys!
Agree with other comments. Well done and appreciated. Most people in looking for a slug load are using them for deer/hog hunting. You guys show what combinations work with different barrel types. Great help to all that are making their own slug loads. Also very interisting to me even though I dont reload shotgun shells just centerfire. Thanks guys! Max
Great video... I have been playing around with the 690 to and I found that the best way I have gotten accuracy out of them is to put dimples all over it almost like a golf ball... I really appreciate the different testing.thank for taking the time to make this video
Awesome video,it was really entertaining to hang out with you guys for a half hour.Get on the merch idea, that hoodie looks great. You should get a spray can of fluorescent orange for the 100yd target would make it easier for us and you guys to see.
I have some loads here to try once im able to get shooting...just had a storm here.... 1 dump of snow over 4ft snow😮😢😮.. Crazyyyy snowfall...and we literally had none. I use a rather unique method Of loading round ball. Did a few with pyrodex...and greendot!! Using sub gauge 62 cal balls and when i tried them in an old sxs... At 75 yards it printed an impressive 6" group. 3 fr ea barrel and 2 diff chokes... . i also have 62 cal ball loads for my 16G sxs with the cylinder bore barrel. Hoping to try them soon..
I just bought the Lee mold for 69 cal. Looking to do a stack of buck under the ball using a roll crimp. Possibly 8 pellets of 1 buck, haven’t decided yet
How much spinning of the ball do you think a split smooth shell as a sabot is doing? Nothing to grip there, it makes contact with the slug in a .005 ring.
I ran the 1st 5 shots for std. deviation, 17.0 is what it came out to . Factory ammo in shotgun try to establish a 20.0 std. deviation. I Think the loads are pretty consistent in velocty which attributes to accuracy to some degree. My experience with round balls in a TC Seneca 45 caliber years ago yielded decent accuracy at 50 yards but beyond that not so good. TC slugs Maxi Balls I think they were called would group 4 inches or less at 100 yrd. Great video good job on the sabot, poor people have poor ways but that doesn't make it a negative, they just know how to help themselves.
They are meant for a smoothbore and yes you can shoot them in a full choke but it’ll cut the wad petals and ruin accuracy. We’ve had it happen. IC or cylinder bore is best for these.
I'd say that's pretty good shooting at 100 for like 3 inches of rifling and a round ball lol. I wonder if there is a way to dimple them, that is kinda easy. I still haven't used my mold yet. I've been collecting old foster slugs I shot a few weeks ago to melt down, along with 22s and other lead.
