It's not just that 4G is fast enough, it's that currently it is often faster or as fast as 5G. A phone is only as fast as the network can support.

I am a developer of 5G networks (literally) and I must say that you are correct in most of your analysis. The only aspect that I think could have helped is to talk about Lowband, Midband (both can be sub-6, specially Lowband) and the extreme 5G, Highband which perhaps was what you were referring to. Also, there is beamforming and massive-MIMO at events as well

Simple solution on the towers, have current G at every redlight and certain street signs or intersections running along with the cell tower lines that are already there under ground or on power poles and just tie them in. Then keep big towers one step behind with further reach to areas where the lines and intersections are a little more rare.

just streaming alone has seen a massive spike in bandwidth when we went from 1080 to 4k. as long as the tech across the board keeps improving, wireless internet must evolve with it

From my experience, everything you mentioned as the downfall of 5G I’ve never experienced. I live in a majorly rural location, and I travel consistently enough, and never had any of cons you mentioned occur while living in any part of the US.

I work in IT for a company with more than 70 sites across the country. I have recently rolled out 5G SIMs to go into each router at each of these sites as a fail over. It's insane to think that my fail over in some cases is much faster than the primary connection for a lot of these sites. I've had it where staff members at some of these sites were sad when the primary connection came back online 😂

Let’s get access to 5G before we talk about 6G 😂

My first phone in about 1990 was literally called a "bag phone". It was a modem in a bag, with a handset clipped to it. I used it to be able to call for help if I had breakdowns at night in my old car, so I just kept the bag in the trunk. Now I'm being forced to get rid of my old flip phone due to Verizon abandoning 3G by year-end. I'm truly amazed at the way cell phones have advanced, and the capabilities of smartphones, now that I'm taking a good look at them. I even understand why people spend $700 or $1200 on a high end phone, if they "live on" the phone, and things like camera tech are very important to them.

Per the Bell Labs specification, 1G AMPS cellular in the U.S was a 10-Kilo bits per Sec. BPSK synchronous stream down & 10 Kbps up. Data was for call setup hand-off & knock down only. Data & texting were not available to the user. Phone calls only.

This video explains so much for a layman like myself. I kept wondering why my Zoom connection for podcast recording was so much worse on 5G on a newer, 4GB ram phone than on my previous phone which was a budget phone with 2GB ram & only a 4G capability. Now I realize why.

This is the best technology channel for a guy like me who likes to know what's happening but can't be bothered to do in depth research and I like how it's easily presented too..

at 4g speed or 3g I managed to control my drone plane for up ten miles away accurately but 3g takes like 20 sec to load the net and location of my drone. 4g it's satisfying to use which I'm ready ok for. For video streaming or high performance apps then it's understandable 4g lte or 5g is necessary.

And I still struggle for signal to make a basic voice call in sunny England. All very well having a "smart phone" (mine is a CAT S62) but it needs a network that is built for 2022 and beyond and not just a network that was built in 1992 for 1992!

Autonomous cars wont be relying on network connection to make decision, at least for split second ones.

And GTA online would still take 15 minutes to load with perfect 6G signal

Why not use ELF (extra low frequency) waves as a carrier wave and use the crests to the troughs as the data (think the spiral of the record being the carrier wave and the zigzag audio track along the spiral being the data)?

Yes, except for the fact that most people up to date, don't have access to 4G lte so let first focus on getting all people on 5G before we start worrying about 6G 🤷‍♂️

This is really cool but sadly the theory doesn’t always live up to the reality. I have a 5G router & SIM only “unlimited” data plan with Hutchinson 3G (Three Mobile) in their so-called Home Broadband offering & I’m fighting with Hutchinson 3G (Three Mobile UK) to argue against them rate-limiting my connection (10mbps down & up) because I’m running a Tor Standalone Snowflake proxy (no, the IP address *isn’t* a public facing end-point). The infrastructure costs for implementing 5G are considerable. Three Mobile want the customers but they’re overselling & under delivering. When the local mast (approximately 100 meters from my home) went live the speed was 1.5gbps. A couple of weeks later 950 then a few weeks after that 850mbps. Now it’s down to 500mbps but nearly always capped at around 250mbps & the upload was originally 150mbps, quite low considering the original download speed. A few weeks ago, the upload was dropped down to 38mbps (4G speeds). Cost comes first, customer satisfaction last. VHS won out over BetaMax, even though BetaMax was broadcast quality. VHS was cheaper to mass produce. The Philips LaserDisc, essentially a DVD, was released in the early to mid 80’s but, of course, it took much longer for the production costs to become viable. Most people use Three Mobile with a mobile phone & are oblivious to how much bandwidth is being withheld from them. They just see a 5G icon at the top of the phone screen & it makes them feel good.

The only realy argument is the bandwith. Autonome cars need a connection? Ok, its useful to know where is the jam but that is also useful in non autonome cars.

The only _slight_ issue is that having everyone's cars tracked for proper auto-drive is also a privacy issue. What if someone uses the auto-drive's tracking function and started stalking a specific person?

Actually I proposed cars talking to each other years ago, but that time I was not even aware of how much data it would take. Anyway, I hope one day we will get there.

what if we make it so that instead of one big advanced antenna we use many and many smaller and less advanced antennas directly connected to a net of optic fibers that go into a little processing units that then are going into a server that figures out where the signal has to go thanks to the continuous position signals recieved by the destination device that also goes to the server. I think it would be more expensive to do but if we find a resonable way to do it, we may be able to have even faster connection.

Even in 2022, it is still a long way ahead before we see any sign of 6G. It is in the works but just experimental test models to see what can 6G may can be able to do at some point. Dont expect it to suddenly get launched during 2023. Maybe a decade later

when u think about it, things like VR and augmented reality attempts never really took off. sure, there are some people with VR in their living room. but i reckon its far from every living room. so the benefits described by 6G are far from the dreams of every consumer. self driving cars are mostly designed to be driven with sensors and i don't think they will be able to rely on connection 100% of the time. heck, even the more robust data connection and GPS signal sometimes simply aren't working.
