❤❤❤Rob Trek ❤❤❤thank you so much for organization and conducting our annual Micro four thirds forum this year again!💯👍❤❤❤I'm big fan of your videos on RU-vid about enthusiasm/Pro photography and I have learned a lot about the Olympus OMD series photography equipment and technics and in my opinion you're very clear, knowledgeable and understandable easily to learn about photography. I'm highly value your enthusiasm and dedication and please continue with this great programs for the lovers of photography and camera gear! Thank you so much for your creativity! Your fan greatly appreciate it: Zoltan. By the way I live in Maryland also, but I'm from Budapest, Hungary. P.s. the holy Trinity in my book is: VOIGHTLÆNDER, LEICA AND OLYMPUS MAITANI!!!❤️❤️❤️ and far as the future goes in camera business watch out for the SONY! In my prediction is Sony will buy out all major camera manufacturing company's slowly and look at the image sensor manufacturing monopoly Sony put self in?!...

I meant to get up at 6am, but just didn’t make it today…so I’m looking forward to this and part 2. Thanks Rob and to all your great guests! Often enjoy all, but loving Robin’s live streams and Brian frequently showing how a g100 can work well for his videos! And to Matti…loved your ‘Every frame is a good frame’ comment on a recent video!

That was an excellent stream. ENjoyed every bit of it. I rem taking a photo class back in my film days. They instructor said you needed 2 or 3 things. Film, a light tight body with a shutter & a lens with F stops. We are so far removed from that with modern digi cams. BUT,,,, we can use our modern cams in that fashion if we choose. It's a fun experiment.

I know this is a long shot, but what if-- just what if-- OM System released a limited edition full frame camera with two brand-new kit zoom lenses and one prime lens? That would be awesome
@RobTrek
@RobTrek 8 месяцев назад
I don't think people would buy into a limited edition full frame without OM System committing to a full frame mount. A limited edition m4/3 camera might be better.

Thanks, Rob. I really enjoy these. Great seeing Brian there. M. Hielema and April from Camera Noob would also make great guest. The question about is it relevant to study the works of lets say A Adams and others was good. Todays internet critics spend more time analyzing post-processing skills than anything else. Bens comment on previsionallizing the image sounds like the start of the post processing step. When I'm out in the field, as you folks call photo walks, I feel images scream out to me, like "Hey here I am," and then the brain responds with "how best can I immortilize you."---previsionallizing. There is no time in my life for post processing, so Gordon Laing's book "In Camera" is like the Yes album, "Tales from Topographic Oceans," awesome.

Hi guys, amazing video. I have a doubt, you guys lament there's not a new small camera but there's the OM-5. I understand is not a fantastic leap and more like a re branded em5 mkiii but is an effort in the right direction, specially since there's not much innovation in any system.
@RobTrek
@RobTrek 8 месяцев назад
The OM-5 is certainly small, but I think what they had in mind was something like the Pen PL and Panasonic GM series.

I agree 100% with Brian. They need to find growing markets and focus on this market. General photography isn’t growing. OM system is focusing on outdoors, wildlife and birds but the faster growing segment is video.

As an amateur hobby or enthusiastic photographer my OMD camera more than capable of satisfying my everyday photography needs! And therefore I don't consider the upgrade to FF and I love the asthetic of Olympus cameras and I love the history of the company! My all-time favorite design engineer is Mr Maitani from Tokyo! Love photography, love Olympus and of course I love Japan and the Japanese people!❤😊❤🎉❤

Most digital camera workflows are computer-centric (Mac or PC). An important aspect of streamlining the workflow and making it easier to go from shoot to share is to remove the external computer from the workflow, whether direct camera-to-cloud or camera-to-mobile device (phone/tablet). In effect, take the power of programs like OM Workspace and think cloud native apps / mobile apps. OM Systems could be a leader in this.

As someone who is slightly handicapped and getting older, mft is lighter and has amazing reach. I have used mine for motorsports, car shoes and even a Nascar race. My em1 mkii and a older 4/3 lens the 70-300, I was able to get great shots. I have learned from everyone on your panel with the exception of Ben. I will check Ben out soon. Movies about photographers recommended in this meetup: (1:32:08 - 1:34:29) - Blow-Up (1966) - The Killing Fields (1984) - One Hour Photo (2002) - Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus (2006) - Polaroid (2019) Bonus: Love Boat, which is not a movie about photographers but Benjamin’s wife enjoyed watch and Benjamin enjoyed seeing all the old cameras in it.

Thanks for this video. I do street photography so I use the small body Panasonic bodies and primes. Size and weight are very important to me. That is why I use M43. Going from APSC to full frame is a good example of diminishing marginal return. Some channels feel like they are gear shaming M43 users. Are the masters of photography worth looking At? Are you kidding? A great eye will capture beautiful images. Look at Haas, Maisel, or Leiter. I look at their images 70 years after they made them and am still impressed. I look at Matisse, Monet, and Manet and learn from them too. Once you see it, like juxtaposition, it is always there. It was there before I was there. When the student is ready the teacher will be there. There may be 1B images shot daily but how many are any good? The way I learn is to see what has been done. I can then add a little of me. As much as I'd love to see a new E-PM or GM... did those models ever really sell well? Same goes for the GX8 (the 9 was a different model anyway, although I loved it) and the Pen-F, the sales numbers weren't great. Phones killed Point&Shoot already so I can see why they stay in their niche and go flagship first. Not that I like it. I'm with Benjamin about sharing content straight outta cam. But I also remember the question marks over some heads when Sony had their appstore implemented in some cameras in some of their first models. They were too early. I think Sony and also Samsung (maybe even more so) would have been successful if they went along with this kind of stuff. I'm also surprised we never got an iCam... Nowadays Sony is the only one (?) who doesn't offer in-camera-raw-processing, which I would have never expected. I also like Robins idea about more collaboration (or maybe even a merger?) between Panasonic and OM System. It could be handled like what we have seen with Panasonic/ Leica already. I'm not a fan of jack-of-all-trades solutions, never was. The right tool for the right job. That's why I think it was a smart move when Fuji and Panasonic started offering a second, bigger sensor size and skipping the one inbetween. And Panasonic having the same body size for both flagships might even be the smarter move. For movies The Public Eye, Pecker and Road to Perdition would be my picks.

I always enjoy watching these meet ups and I have the same opinion that the Micro system name has to go.... 4/3 mirrorless would be a better system brand name.

Ai might save M4/3 Ai will absorb the images created in studios with Medium Format and Full Frame. Also Landscapes etc But if M4/3 positioned themselves in the street photography, photo journalism, story telling, family camera where capturing the real moment matters. Without needing the “slight” advantage of FF. What do you think?
@RobTrek
@RobTrek 7 месяцев назад
Ai will probably eliminate many types of jobs done by photographers and graphic designers. Ai will help m4/3, but it will help all formats. So it's a zero sum game. At the consumer level, I think cell phones have replaced street, photo journalism, family, etc.... When I watch the news, I see many reporters just using their phone. There are indications that the camera market is leveling off, so maybe it will be easier to start expanding into different genres. When the market was in decline, and it may still be in decline, I can see why OM focused on things that you can't do with a cell phone.

My Panasonic video camera from 2004 have already global shutter! Of course it's only a 8 megapixels CCD sensor video camera but it has the global shutter and it's from 2004. My Panasonic video camera, it's a better quality consumer camcorder the Panasonic HVX-202p and I just checked and I read it In the owners manual that my camcorder had global shutter on CCD 8mp sensor, therefore it doesn't produce the "rolling shutter" effects! And even though it's a older camcorder but it have that "cinematic" softer image than the contemporary higher mp CMOS cameras! And my Pany hvx made for videos but in studio environment on tripod I can use it for photography since it takes single frame capturing and it's have the variable frame rates like the "Varicam"3 ❤😂👍💯❤️

OMDS seems to be focused on shrinking their market share. Can they survive with just the adventure and wildlife market? They're not even bothering to try to compete on the video front, at least if their new flagship is any indication. Other companies are snapping at their heals with respect to shooting speed, subject detection and ibis too.
@RobTrek
@RobTrek 8 месяцев назад
It's definitely a very competitive market. Adventure/wildlife is where OM is best. I think they will need to come out with more cameras to capture other markets. Maybe a street camera like the PenF, a video centric version of the OM1, and a high res camera for studio work. PenF Mark II, OM1h, and OM1r. Otherwise, they might become like Pentax. Releasing only 1 or 2 cameras every couple of years.
@jonbarnard7186
@jonbarnard7186 8 месяцев назад
Well I would probably buy a new Pen-F if the price was right. I'm certainly not going to upgrade my OM1 to this OM1ii. It's hard to believe they will put in the R&D to make all these innovative cameras. They just released a rebranded wide zoom, which wasn't that great a lens to begin with, and a rebranded Sigma zoom (for triple the price where I live). That's not R&D. I don't think they're making the right choices for growing their brand. I think they're flailing around. I hope I'm wrong and there's a business plan and I just don't see it. @@RobTrek
@TITAOSTEIN
@TITAOSTEIN 8 месяцев назад
I suspect the same! But I still believe in the possibility that they are still in a transition phase. Restructure and downsize, to get back to working in the blue. There is also the aspect of rights to use the Olympus brand and the need to relaunch equipment with the new name. Obviously it is a necessary movement but it gives the impression that they are “just reheated products”. Panasonic did this with the GH5ii and soon after brought the GH6, and then the G9ii. And much of the system's development stems from the sensors. At the moment there is enormous progress in the development of Smartphone and FF sensors, but the same is not happening with APSC and M43. Really a shame. I still believe in the system, because it is still efficient and current in what I like: Macro, Wildlife, Architecture and Video. I also use Nikon APSC and FF, which remain in the drawer 99% of the time.
@jonbarnard7186
@jonbarnard7186 8 месяцев назад
I hope like you it's just a transition. But then I look at Sony Vaio, which JIP purchased, and I ask myself: Where's Sony Vaio? I understand it still exists, but I haven't seen one in years. @@TITAOSTEIN

Look for markets that suit small cameras and don’t need full frame like street photography or photo journalism. Instead of landscape and wildlife that want the range and depth of ff or even medium Format.
