My dog loves to look out the living room window. So I put a sofa table between my loveseat and the window and put a couple soft cat beds on there. So now the dog and the cats can sit up there and look out the window without squishing the back of my loveseat. It works great.

Years ago I was a nursing supervisor for a facility for adults with developmental disabilities that had various workshops. The pride & joy of their workshops was the highly-skilled caning one. The clients would repair the caning on furniture either donated to the facility to resale or brought in by members of the public for a price. The workers were paid by the hole in the cane. The work they did was absolutely beautiful with various levels of complexity to the cane patterns.

YEY THE VALET STAND!!! My husband thought i was obsessed when I insisted on having one in both the guest rooms at our country cottage. But, my guests LOVE THEM and it saves on bulky wardrobes so we could have beautiful chests with deep drawers for extra storage instead. I'm chuffed to bits that you mentioned them Garreth 😊😊😊

Once again, Garrett, you’ve made me realize I do have good taste! I’ve had an etagere for 30 years and it has never gone out of style with its brass legs and wood-framed glass shelves; my Cherry valet has a seat so my husband could sit down to tie his shoes, and I have 4 lovely antique, cane-bottomed chairs I had shipped over from Italy! Thank you for boosting my confidence in NOT following the latest trends and keeping to the timeless and traditional styles of the classics! I love your taste and your style! Bless you for taking the time to create your RU-vid Chanel! P.S. I’m glad you are wearing your Diamond necklace again!😊

Great education! I had a valet stand years ago, but had to give it away due to space constraints. In my new home, I have the space for a valet and was lucky to find one. I use it daily. I have two small commodes (in separate rooms). I did not know that was what they were called, but they are great statement pieces.

I wanted a small piece for our bedroom to hold “stuff” - the odds and ends we collect that have value to us and fill the drawers of our night tables. I seem to have a lot of it: photos; craft pieces my daughter made when she was little; birthday and anniversary cards from those I love, that sort of thing. Our bedoom is large-ish, with a king bed, occasional chair, two wide night tables, my mother’s carved oak cedar chest at the end of the bed, and a bombe chest repurposed from my old living room my husband uses. There’s a wall of windows and a wall of built-in cabinetry surrounding a gas fireplace. That left a bit of empty wall opposite my side of the bed. Given that the furniture is traditional/transitional, I scouted out antique stores for something that might fit the space and be useful. I found it: a late 19th century French escritoire! Frankly, I just thought it was a small secretary, but it is covered on three sides with marquetry of flowers, has gilt filigree trim on the legs and handles, and a fabulous red marble top, all of which, along with its small size, makes it a lady’s writing desk. The interior of the desk includes little drawers that are perfect for small items, and shelves for holding papers, while the base is a cupboard that I just stuff with…stuff. It’s incredibly useful and very lovely, a work of art. Because of its small size, it was very reasonably prized, unlike larger versions. I have added the escritoire to the list of obscure furniture pieces you mentioned that I own, which I never thought were obscure. I guess my age is showing! Thanks for a great video, as always❤️

... and there I thought ”étagère” was merely the Fench for ”bookshelf” 🙃 (I don’t think we have a different word for the close-sided version. Maybe ”bibliothèque” - but then tgat word also means ”library”. I’ll look it up - but first, watching the rest of the video !)
@Cecily-Pimprenelle

Another comment for the Algorithm. 😊 Gallery rails on tables are lovely, as is caning (... not kid-friendly, though - my parents had to re-cane quite a number of seats recently, they had been damaged over decades by little knees. Oops.). And in lieu of a valet if one lacks space, I think a couple of hooks/knobs on the wall on which one can put hangers associated with a mini-shelf might work (... minima legal size for a room to be called a ”bedroom” in France is 9sqm; ours are barely over that (and we need to fit a wardrobe or chest of drawers(1) in it in addition to the bed - no closets in this flat). (1)... for which, to reference my first post, we don’t have any other word than ”commode” ... so we differentiate by calling it ”la commode Ikea” vs ”la commode Directoire” (or whatever style).

I have a glass door cabinet with shelves. I think it was intended as a china cabinet but ours is full of toys. Vintage tin windup toys, old tootsie toy cars and trains, plastic dinosaurs, children's kaleidoscopes.

So glad you mentioned the valet stand. Very helpful to have. Even women can use valet stands for organization. Sadly, they are difficult to find as most Americans don't know what they are.

Have you done a home tour video?
@GarrettLeChic
@GarrettLeChic Год назад
I’ve done videos of rooms in my home. All currently on the channel page. However, I don’t want to make the channel all about my personal design style.

I understand but I also think people get good ideas of how to put things together even if the particular style isn't theirs. It also opens people's minds to things they may not have considered. I am a southerner and nothing is more beautiful to me than old southern houses with old wood floors, big hallways or foyers with furniture accumulated over time. It never goes out of style. Would love to see more if you feel it offers something.

If you are a woman you can get a small dress rack instead of a valet stand. It is more appropriate for our needs, not only because we sometimes wear dresses, but because we often have strappy purses, long necklaces and scarfs.
