This is how I built my 7 1/2 inch gauge back yard railroad during a year of weekends.

This is the coolest backyard railroad construction video on the internets. It's not often I watch an entire video without skipping around. I'm starting my own backyard railroad and this video has been highly motivational.

I love the narration! Not only does this remind me of the building of my own railroad, but I also love the subtle humor as well. Also your narration and voice reminds me something of C.W. McCall.

Grrreat project! On our backyard railroad, the northeast corner of the property is named after my wife. It's called Cammi's Corner. Her name is just one letter shorter than your wife's name, but pronounced the same. She is a great backyard railroad booster.

Thanks! Start digging! Just kidding. Our property slopes so we had to build up a birm so the track grade held at a reasonable 2.5 percent. The trestle was one place where we chose not to have a dirt filled birm.

@@TheWeevilGenius - Agreed . Now I am a beginner. I only have few Hornby sets. I was thinking of switching to G scale. I am too lazy to construct 7-1/2 inch setup. Is there any company that sells a 7-1/2 inch starter set?

@@saugghos Not that I know of. But Accu-Tie is a good place to start for track supplies if you get the bug. Here is the link: accu-tierailsystem.com/ They have a good product line. I used their rail and was happy I did. If I were to do it all over I would use their ties too.

Aluminum rail is something like $16.50 for 10 feet. Times 2 it's $330 for 100 feet plus ties and screws, etc.

Just found your video. I'm an "O" gauge railroader but have always been fascinated with these railroads. I've tried to research but i'm terrible at it. I see its 1/8 scale but what is the actual track width. It looks narrow for the large equipment you put on it. Thanks.

Superb video, specially seen from the sky. It shows how far you go with 550´ of mainline track. Then the list of your ordering. Not hard to find prices, and so can stimulate a beginner with the "go or no go" final decision. Finally it´s not necesserely mandatory, but big equipment like tractor that you own or rent is a big plus.
