I am a dodge guy, but the fact that channels like this exist would make me consider getting a nice 6.0 and having it sent to Bill to be bulletproofed. Please, NEVER stop making videos!
I'm a Cummins guy , but I like powerstrokes and I love watching your videos. A lot of info and everything you need to know and nothing you don't! Keep them coming!
My former boss was proud that he got his 2000 4r100 rebuilt for $900. Then he got mad because it blew after 10k miles. I said "What do you expect? That should be a $3k rebuild."
Hey you’re the Powerstroke King Bill! I’ve been watching you for years! I have an early 99 7.3 with 340k miles. Owned since 230k miles (8 yrs). Still runs strong and starts good. Daily driver work truck, with some light to medium towing. Mileage and power is down and smokes fairly blue on start up. Keep good clean oil, clean air filter, fuel filter, tank pickup screens, cleaned exhaust back pressure line and sensor, bla bla bla, keep up on the small things. I figure injectors are just getting worn although they still operate well if you know what I mean. Thinking to go full force stage 1 (180cc/0 over) injectors, and a hydra chip with jelibuilt tunes, glow plugs, cover gaskets and harness. Going for slight increase in power, mileage, and longevity. Would love to still be driving her everyday at a million miles! Curious to know if anyone thinks I’m nuts or does it make sense giving the premis that I plan to keep the truck for the long haul?
There is not a new thirty. Been there done that. Once thirty is gone there is no getting it back. Love your informative videos about power stokes. I'm a big fan of the power stroke. Great job!
i have an 180k on my 2nd owner psd. she has only stopped working once. ever. i think my ipr hung open. i replaced my hpop and ipr at the same time. i do regular maintenance and then some. i change my full syn oil & filter every 5k. i do my trans every 30k no issues yet. i keep my tune on economy. i love my 99 dually 4x4 crew. this channel has kept it alive for years.
I never understood why mechanics don't do a full job like this. Yeah the customer had to shell out some extra money, but he will be driving down the road for a long time. It's really hard to find people that know diesels, wish you where nationwide.
Is it just me or are transmissions one of the seven wonders of the world. Not to mention transmission techs and mechanics like the gentlemen in this video who are craftsmen.
We have 4 7.3's in the family. All of them have over 250K. I just put a trans in my brothers truck @ 280K miles. I got it from Ford for $2400 with a three year unlimited mile warranty. I also installed a 6.0 cooler :) My truck is the only one that has had problems with the engine due to pushing it to 50 PSI of boost. It had 275K on it when it lost #2. I rebuilt it myself with a Ford OH kit. It now has head studs and I had all the sharp edges on the pistons machined. My truck also has a fully built BTS Trans :) and a few other mods. She runs and drives like a new truck...
My 2001 7.3 has 354K miles, the first 4R100 failed at 84K miles, I now have a 4R100HD with 260K miles on it. I tow with it regularly and the truck has been all over the country including Alaska. I did put the 6.0 cooler and external trans filter and a temp gauge to monitor temps. What are the differences between the 4R100 and the HD version? I have not been able to find a good answer to what the differences are.
I bought a 2003 F250 Lariat extended cab long bed 7.3L with 82K original miles on it for $13.5K here in Texas from the original owner who used it for towing a 5th wheel the first 40K miles then gave it to his son who used it for a daily driver for the next 40k miles or so, he then sold it to me. I guess it was two owners but in the same family anyway. It's about as clean as it can be.
The 6 speed manual is also a weak link. My dad had around 300,000 miles on it and had to get it replaced and all he towed with it was a 1,600 pound hooftrimming table used to trim hooves on dairy cows. He's got a 2002 F-250.
Daaaaamn Son! Wicked shiner! Glad that is all that happened in the bike wreck.... Yep, the older you get, the worse it hurts and hurts longer.....LOL I was thinking about getting me a mountain bike, but now I don't know! Kinda scared! Heh!
n10cities same thing happened to me runnin wit my dog full tilt and she stops! And down i went on to that 40 grit sidewalk! Bounced twice! Hurt like hell! Im 58 yrs old!
Can you install a 7.3 on 2006 truck I spent a fortune amount of money over 10,000 on the 6.0 bullet proofing and let me stranded on the side of the road near stone mountain the motor is toast the mechanic blamed number 8 piston wen he was bulletproofing the truck find some damage on the piston and the sleeve so from 10,000 know am looking 5,000 more i said I don't have the kind of money at this point he said I seeing this problems before in most cases they still run for long time. so I got some relief been first time on the diesel community well thanks for taking the time for reading
Sooo why not put a 6.0 trans in a 7.3? No adapter? Advanced Adapter? I was in SEMA 2018, Allison had adaptations for just about everything. Thoughts? Bill? Anyone?
We have an international 4700 26,000 gvwr truck which is on its 2nd 444/7.3 1996 era with 380,000 grueling miles and it's still has the original allison 4spd. automatic in it. They are the toughest transmission made. Those big scrapers and a lot of other heavy equipment have Allison automatics. Allison is owned by general motors so that is why ford don't have them. My personal truck is a 97 f-350 7.3 and an E4od transmission which I have had 0 problems with. I have changed the fluid and filter every 25,000 miles religiously, a must do on them. I also drove tractor trailers for 45 years so I know what you can realistically can expect from a diesel pickup when towing. You have to drive them like you are paying the bills out of your own pocket and if you want them to last 23 years you have to drive them that way. I love my truck and I plan to be buried in it when I die.
You're talking about an electronically controlled transmission vs a pneumatic transmission. To get on to bolt up is one thing, but the truck has to be able to communicate with a 5r110
Bill, Have you ever thought coming up with a transmission package for the 7.3? A new modern transmission with more gears? I know it is done but no one offers a package. You said in the previous video the the 4R100 transmission case is getting hard to get. Just an idea.
It is in theory possible to swap in a newer 5 or 6 speed, but the effort is just insane. The real devil is A. the stock computer and B. the new TCU for the newer transmission. Its really a pretty tricky deal getting the electronics to work right when swapping transmissions.
They make a High Performance 4R100 Master Kit to make it a level 2 Transmission, Red Eagle Power Pack by Alto...dont let all these different internet sites fool you
My 2000 7.3 has the original trans with almost 280k on it. Change the fluid, monitor the temp, and install a 6.0 or v10 trans cooler and you're golden!
Bill, the Montana Motorcycle Rider Safety Program uses, among others, a 99 7.3 F250. 170K miles. I routinely tow a trailer with 15 motorcycles across the state. Not sure of the trailer itself, but the truck and trailer weigh 18,500. When I tow, I typically set the cruise at 53 on "tow". She isnt going to win a race, but she gets it done. Given what you are seeing with stock 7.3s, am I asking for trouble?
Hey Bill, I am currently wanting to improve my transmission in my 97 7.3L that's sitting in my truck. I bought a 6.0 05 transmission oil cooler. I am contemplating buying a shift kit. What else can i do to give it that little extra to improve the lifetime of the infamous E4OD.
The early 99 tranny came oem with the 4 pin aluminum planetary. It may have changed before the turbo but not long. I had a front pump seal go so when I dropped it I looked, and replaced the aluminum planetary and put a billet converter in it as they've been known to drop a load as well. Other than that mine is box stock and still going at 300k . I only do occasional dumb stuff with it , but it's still going well . No fire breather. But as I get older I'd rather thump the wife's Shelby.... 😎 Cheers.
I just put 2 new 850 Everstart in mine, it turns over fast & the ones in it was 750 ac deco, not big enough. On a cold day it would turn slow & be in need of a charge. Cold days now she starts great every time with 850 ever start batteries 3 year warranty. $98.00 a peace
I love my 05 f250 6.0L power stroke diesel it now has 195,600 miles on it i do my oil changes every 5,000 and filters too just had to replace a fuel injector, radiator, and 2 new batteries but other then that I love it with my SCTX4 tuner
How much prolong engine additive you recommend on manual transmission for 7.3 4x4 - on your video you show the bottle of the engine and not transmission.. so i was little confused... and also how much 8 or 12 oz.? Thank you a lot hope i get responded soon thanks....
I'm 55 and went down on my bicycle a few months back. I was laid up for 5 days. I cracked a rib or two they thought but since they can't do anything about it I just suffered for months. I'm pretty much over it now. Sucks to be an old fart most of the time.
Thanks for making a new 7.3 Video Bill. I have an 03 7.3 and it has a small radiator sandwiched between the radiator and something else does that mean the trans has been replaced? truck has 341k now and was bought with 115 miles never put a trans in her yet
On the 7.3 E350 van, located in front of the radiator, is the ac condenser. It is roughly the same height and width as the radiator, but is not as thick. Then in front of the ac condenser is the transmission cooler. It is smaller, roughly 7"x14"
First video ive seen of yours. I have a 57 Ford pickup with F2 vin number, but i want to put a Ford diesel in it, whats going to be easier to build to have some good power to it? 6.0 or 7.3? And which trans would be best for it?
Could you please state the year/model of the truck and how much these repairs and upgrades cost this guy? Im looking at buying one of thees and was wondering about the expense. Thanks
My 2001 7.tree f2shity has 820 thousand miles all original Michigan truck works construction and plowed every winter of its life....still stroking and purrs like a kitten 😸......13 letter shitspreader INTERNATIONAL best diesel ever made.....been driving it for 23 years now...wouldn't trade it for a rocket ship
Great video, but why do away with the stock airbox and put in an open element air filter? The stock box at least pulls in cooler air through a duct that leads to behind the front grille. The open element unit you put in will get nothing but hot air.....
So i notice mishi moto has oil cooler speciric for 7.3 now. Is that just as good as the one from 6.0? or did they us 6.0 before only bcuz the 7.3 upgrade wasnt built yet?
I bought my 7.3 with 217k miles for $8k knowing good and well what I was getting into. Since I've had the truck I had to put a new starter in it, new radiator, new coolant expansion tank, new hoses, new water pump, new fan clutch, new alternator, new belt tensioner, new belt, resealed the fuel bowl, resealed the oil cooler, new glow plugs, installed a catch can, new pads and rotors/hubs all around, new wheel bearings, new tires, new ball joints, new steering linkage, upgraded turbo, International bellowed up-pipes, EBV delete, 4" exhaust system, and set of new tires (twice). That's not including the body work I've had to do to it or the few accessories I installed. My latest venture with it now is getting a new transmission for it. Good times.
MrNotorius5500 Wow sounds like we are in the same boat. I payed 7300 for mine but didn't know what I was getting into lol. I have had the transmission worked on have replaced the starter, power steering pump twice. Fixed the pickup in the tank on second set of tires need to do brakes again also. I have a mbrp 5inch exhaust tymar intake stage 1 injectors and tuned it on the dyno, that was a lot of money there. Had a crank no start situation that lasted for months finally had to put truck in shop 6 weeks later got it back month later broke again. Water pump failed this time plus I have to install a radiator new hoses thermostat and housing. I'm learning to work on it though but it stays broke most of the time. I baby the truck but previous owner I later found didnt. Lady t-boned me now I have bunch of body work to fix😠. Not sure if I will keep sinking money into it, I figure I have 8-9 grand in parts and labor tied up and still have more to go it's in my driveway broke as I type this.
My truck was a theft recovery that I picked up from a UCD in Arizona. In its previous life it was a fleet truck that used to pull heavy trailers (evident by the hideaway gooseneck hitch in the bed rated at 25k pounds). The only real reason I bought the truck was the engine because of its reputation for being reliable. That's not to say everything else doesn't go wrong with it as you and I know lol. By the way since I posted last, I got a new transmission put in it. Did it all by myself :P
hey man I got a 2010 ford F-250 6.4 DPF delete and egr delete is arch oil good for the 6.4? because all they talk about is the 6.0 and 7.3? asking about both oil additive and diesel additive
OBS Powerstrokes don't have hydroboost brakes, my F250 has a vacuum pump on it. They also don't have the oil cooler so a few things that is mentioned here doesn't fall into the 94-97 models.
I have 2016 6.7 30,000 miles Right now I don't drive much due to fuel here in Ca. I take it out once or twice amonth just to go for a ride or move my Rv
hello, I'm looking at getting an obs power stroke with a manual transmission and around 150k. what are some issues I can expect with a higher mileage truck like that and what should I look for when shopping. I know to check fluid levels, look at the ball joints and tires, check up under it for leaks, is there anything else I should look for?
By the way I have a 99 7.3 F250 used for hauling everyday I have had to do most of the stuff you said but I got to 3:50 before I had to do most of it and 500 on a transmission
so much info... I wish I could afford to bring my truck there. I have a old 97 f 250 7.3. bought it for 3995.00 280000 miles. runs good for now but for How long...who knows..
I have a 2002 7.3 and never had a problem with it and it has 320k miles and I'm wondering ok I'm 16 and I'm wondering if rolling coal just to show off is that bad for me to do cause I'm trying to make sure that this truck last up to 500k at least just wondering if I need to stop rolling coal so my engine would last longer or is it fine to roll coal?
Affinity_Wes Affinity_Reborn rolling coal is the douchiest and dumbest fucking thing you can do while driving a diesel truck. i hope you know you probably wont get to 500,000 if you still have stock injectors and original tranny. the icp sensors and oil coolers are known to fail also
You mentioned the Everstart batteries had to go. Why? Were they beyond their service life? I have a 99 also (01/99) do I have the small trubo? Thank you for posting Eric
I know normally talking price isn't the smartest thing cause in 6 months, One of those parts could skyrocket in price and their rebuild price goes up 500+ But, How much for the full upgrade/rebuild right now? Been looking at a 7.3 Auto 8 inch lift 37's But the trans is gone, Like you'd expect.
Hey Bill I ride mountain bikes in NC, [2018 Canyon Spectral] you got some nasty damage there, looks like you hit a few rocks, be sure youre wearing a set of goggles, a GOOD helmet and some knee pads. I watch youtube trail vids and yeah sometimes they bring their dog and its dangerous, I think next time you should HIKE with the dog I AM 64 HEHEHEHE
