In February of 2014, Pravda.ru reporter Martin Truscott was attached to a platoon of Russian FSB special forces during a counterinsurgency operation in Crimea, that later escalated into an armed flashpoint against NATO coalition forces.
This is the first part in a three-part exclusive series about the aforementioned conflict. Witness the war at the front lines, and the struggle of the Russian troopers as they defend against the most powerful military force in the world.
In part one, the FSB forces rally at the barracks in the Crimean settlement of Novofedorivka, and deploy on a reconnaissance mission in the middle of the night.

This is all footage of the Crimean Crisis, a MILSIM hosted by MILSIM West, a military simulation organizer out of Washington and Oregon. This took place at Camp Rilea, near Warrenton, OR.
The first of three parts, this footage chronicles the game as it happened.
A special thanks to the Renegade Russians for letting me hitch a ride, and for Roscoe Leiner and the MSW staff for hosting the game. It was a blast.

Hi from Russia! You name Tatars as Tartars. That's funny and unusual for russians, cause for us tartar - is raw meat dish (never try it in my life, its rare delicacy). Nice vid! It's strange that guys like to simulate russian forces. Are they abused by nato teams? In Moscow we has strange situation. There are tons of NATO teams, especially wearing multicam. They called Dark Side (from star wars). And they gear in Russia are too expensive. To imagine you can multiply your prices by 2, or for rare items by 3 (nvg 2,3 gen). And we have russian teams, Light Side, but almost nobody call it like this. They have nicname as Buckets, for its big helmets ZSH Sphere (ЗШ СФЕРА). Also, if new team want to roleplay (simulate?) as specnaz fsb or specnaz from period of Chechnya war, that team will be abused at community by the question where did they serve and when, and if not, why they calls themselves such "loud". So, its not so easy to be specnaz in airsoft in Moscow. Easiest way - to play as PMC.

Hey! Interesting read:) I just sent my friend down to SSO-mil shop to buy me alot of gear, since it's so cheap compared to other retailers (compare 4000 roubles for a Smersh-vest to 200$ dollar for the same vest at a store that ships internationally). So here in Sweden we have a pretty good mix of boring NATO impression teams and a pretty OK number of Russian teams. Most teams playing as Russian play it with as authentic gear as possible. So it's a very high standard for Russian teams, most vary between FSB and MVD Spetsnaz, but they also play regular infantry and VDV. It sucks that teams can't simulate spetsnaz of their choice in Russia, as long as they don't wear the krapoviy or medals/unit badges it should be ok.
