Join me as I review and taste some different types of lemons and limes. I'll go over some information about these cool citrus varieties, so you can consider some different lemons to grow. In this selection of Citrus we have some giant lemons, called Ponderosa Lemons which were originally from Maryland, USA and are a cross between Pomelo and Citron. We've also got Meyer Lemon, Yen Ben Lemon (which is a sport of the Lisbon lemon variety), and my favourite sweet lemon called Lemonade.
We have some lime varieties too, including Key Lime, Limequat and Makrut Lime, also known as Thai lime.
These varieties of lemons and limes have varying degrees of cold hardiness of which we'll briefly cover in the video. Some of these fruits also have some interesting uses, like Makrut lime being used as shampoo or in cleaning products as well as in Southeast Asian cuisine.

The Ponderosa lemons can be entertaining when you think they are a grapefruit. My dad came down to Florida a few years ago for Thanksgiving. We found Ponderosa lemons at a fruit stand in the West Palm Beach area. I bought some and sent them back up to Pennsylvania with him. He gave them to friends and family up there and did not particularly describe what they were. My sister got one from him and thought they were grapefruit, so she packed it in her husband's lunch. He got a big surprise!

thank you for the knowledge. I learnt something new today esp. the makrut lime,I never knew it was called makrut.😊😊 in here we call it limau purut. usu. we just use its leaves for tom yam or rendang, while the fruit sometimes is used for bath like flower petals infused water for bathing and as ingredient in some spiritual healing process. the fruit tasted a little bitter if I'm not mistaken, and very fragrant(its zest).

My favourite is Australian bush lemon. Naturalized exotic, ie not native species, grows wild. Juicy, similar flavour to Meyer. Large, round, & bumpy skin. Easier to peel than cultivated varieties. And very easy to grow, moderate frost tolerant.

I am also getting a sweet lime to go with the lemonade in a double planting. Chinotto only in the soft drink I told you, the 'chinò', bought two half an hour ago, one down, one to go, later. Good stuff here it seems to be artichokes, violet hue, and aubergines, very big, round, white... and very funny oriental greens in the central market (!?!), not very Italian, but who am I to question... Hi Arlene, that's quite the collection - you've got some really interesting ones! So lucky. I still need to try washing my hair with makrut lime, it sounds cool!

It’s currently mid winter here now, so very green at the moment. In mid Summer a lot of the surrounding land goes brown with drought
