Second Avenger "started making better music" they have always made great music and i would say thats the spirit is not better than theres a hell or suicide season...
(My personal list of acts I feel fit that description. #7: Michael Jackson #6: Aerosmith #5: My Chemical Romance #4: The Beatles #3: 2003-2008 Fall Out Boy (Yeah, I don't like their newest album & the fact that they've sold out recently) #2: All Time Low #1: Green Day
+Scsigs unpopular opinion; I'm not a big fan of All Time Low. Really whiny and repetitive. And I've liked them less and less because of their fans and everyone kissing their ass.
Seeing people mention Linkin Park kind of makes me sad - their new music is pretty good, and at least they're trying to keep their new material fresh and unique, while still retaining their distinct 'style'.
I've always considered this channel much like theneedeldrop, however much less "underground" or obscure music oriented, and more passionate in a way. Obviously Fantano is extremely passionate about his music, he's literally the internet's busiest music nerd, and I love him, he was the first music review channel I ever watched, BUT this channel is much more accessible in the way that average music listeners and hardcore (not the genre) music analysts can get into these videos alike. ARTV just seems more for the every day music listener, with a slight leaning toward alternative music, and TND seems more for the hardcore critics and music collectors. I've always felt like with TND, it's like, "I come here to find new artists or see what Anthony Fantano thinks of this album I loved" and with ARTV, it's more like "hey bro, what did you think of this band/album because I've really been into it and I know you and I basically have the same taste in music". It just feels a little more relatable here for me. I watch both channels individually for different reasons depending, though both also just for the love of music. I apologize if it seems like I'm trying to compare for the sake of criticism or go on a rant about it or anything, I'm just trying to get it out the way I've always thought about it, because I literally have had this same thought a million times haha. Huge fan of both channels, though.
7 I Outgrew: 1. Fall Out Boy 2. Blink-182 3. Death Cab For Cutie (I wayyyy overplayed them) 4. Jimmy Eat World 5. Green Day 6. Crystal Castles (thought I was SO cool in high school for liking them) 7. Motion City Soundtrack
Steal This Album by System of a Down Warning by Green Day Your Favorite Weapon by Brand New Out of the Vein by Third Eye Blind Neighborhoods by Blink 182
OtherIndigo I still like Three Days Grace. I've certainly outgrown the edgy-as-fuck lyrics, but Adam's voice is just too good to drop. Matt Walst can go eat bees though
zach ballard well tell me what's my age again and if you can then I guess aliens exist well I'm going off to college with all the small things on a carousel at the rock show. Try to beat me
Ben Liss after riding a carousel, I ate some m+ms with this girl named Josie once while she told me how one time she accidentally spilled apple shampoo on herself and cried out dammit. Then I said "it's all the small things and problems in life that shouldn't be stressed over so don't worry about it." That was our first date. Eventually we broke up even though we said we'd be together always and that really got me down for a while and I started seeing the world in a more cynical light. I told her "don't leave me, don't go, I'm lost without you" but she just replied "shut up, I don't wanna hear it, I'm not feeling this." I asked her "give me on good reason" and she replied "I'm going away to college to San Diego, California so for us, there is no future." People asked me to do stuff to cheer me up like go to a rock show but I just replied "not now, I just wanna be left alone and stay up all night listening to online songs or at least not go to sleep until after midnight." If I had gone, I'd just end up saying halfway through "please take me home." Surprisingly, i wasn't bored to death on my own tho. I thought I'd be tempted to text her "I miss you" but I wasn't. Eventually it was obvious that I was getting over her, I just needed some time. Sorry if this story of a lonely guy dragged on for too long but I just felt like I needed to vent. It was a roller coaster of emotions that I needed to process. Looking back now, she's out of her mind. I mean she expected me to treat her like she's the only thing that matters. I'm metaphorically more sober now in the way that I understand things better now. She tried calling me the other day trying to rekindle our relationship but I just told her "happy holidays you bastard" and hanged up. Since you know, it's that time of the year. I wasn't gonna let her interrupt my family reunion.
I use to love them but Simple Plan are so cheesy, especially their new album. And its even worse because they're nearly 40 years old and haven't changed
i've outgrown pretty much every band i listened to when i was 12-14. Of Mice & Men, Sleeping With Sirens, Pierce The Veil, Black Veil Brides, Asking Alexandria, Motionless In White, Blood On The Dance Floor (this one's actually really embarrassing to admit. they're so bad holy fuck) and pretty much any other band emo kids listened to around 2010-2012.
3 Bands I Outgrew -Simple Plan-Saw threw their cheesiness once I got out of my tweens. -Green Day-Played Blvd of Broken Dreams a few too many times and they just kind of overstayed their welcome after a while. I still jam to Basket Case when it comes on. -Linkin Park-This one's sad to admit. These guys were my band all through middle and high school and helped me through a lot. But now that I've gotten older and my music taste has evolved, it just feels like I've matured past what they put out musically and what comfort their music offered me. I'll always be grateful to them though. 3 Bands I Grew Into (I'd like to see this, if you haven't done it already) -Muse-Got annoyed by Madness the first few times I heard it on the radio, but I came around. And when I finally gave them a chance, holy CRAP!!!!! Exogenesis is just godly!!! -My Chemical Romance-The Helena video scared the shit out of me when it first came out. My sister was a big fan of The Black Parade, and when I finally got a chance to listen to it, not only did I enjoy it now that I'm older, looking back on how we grew up, I found myself saying, "Okay...now I get it." Love you, sis. -30 Seconds To Mars-The goddamn chorus from Kings and Queens that was used in all that marketing and played by all the popular kids in my high school drove me crazy (it still makes me cringe! Which sucks because I really liked Jared Leto's acting at the time. I've listened to the rest of his music, having a profound moment of telling myself, "...shit, that's good," and now I feel like I owe Leto a huge apology if I ever meet him.
I absolutely agree with this whole list! There are so many bands that I liked on the surface level (like We The Kings, Papa Roach) and others that I totally immersed myself in (3OH!3, Hollywood Undead, Skillet). Regardless, it shaped me in some way and I don't regret it. However, I have moved on to greener and more talented/diverse pastures! ;)
top 5 i outgrew: 1) jimmy eat world 2) pierce the veil 3) papa roach 4) every christian band i listened to ever 5) limp bizkit (WHY DID I EVER LIKE THEM WHYYYYYY)
@Nicolas Marin why do you follow them then? You clearly know they are working on a new album, if you were tired of them, you wouldn't know what they are up to at the moment.
+Black3ight That doesn't mean that I won't listen to the new album. In fact, I always like to listen to artist's new material just to see if they bring something new to the table. I'm not excited for the new album, but I'll listen to it when it comes out just for curiosity and maybe if it's something I end up liking, I'll listen to it more often.
Good Charlotte Simple Plan Nickelback Daughtry Volbeat Thirty Seconds to Mars The All-American Rejects And I'm slowly starting to feel the same way about Rise Against and Yellowcard (even though they're still one of my favorite bands and I believe they'll always be special to me)
I am the same with Simple Plan and We The Kings. I was a huge fan of them in middle school/freshman year of high school but now I couldn't care less for their music. I don't think it is necessarily "bad" but their lyrics just do not appeal to me anymore. However, I don't necessarily "regret" or am embarrassed that I was a huge fan of them because I understand why I liked them at that time. I think that's why a lot of people I meet today pretty much outgrew the whole pop punk/emo 2000s scene in general... the themes are less meaningful to us because we can't relate as much as we did when we were in our early/mid teens. I still mostly only listen to pop punk/punk rock genre, but I understand why people outgrow it because it's like I'm almost 20 yet I go to school, have a job, live alone in my own apartment, and pay my own bills...I don't have parents to tell me what to do, I can pretty much do whatever I want whenever I want... I like to say growing up is when you realize there are more important things in life to worry about than your crush not liking you back. Hahaha. :') Keep up the good work Jon xx
I've kinda grown out of twenty one pilots now, I was a really big fan for about 3 years and I even got to meet Josh in February, but I've just kind of over listened to all of their work now and the fandom really bugs me so I sort of stay away. When their new album comes out I'll probably get back into them again though
I outgrew bands like Linkin Park, blink-182, Sum 41, Papa Roach, and Green Day. I can barely listen to pop-punk anymore, which is sad cause I used to listen to it all the time.
I really enjoyed simple Plan in my mid to late teens, but i "retired" said group when i went to college, their music doesnt age that well in my opinion
I agree with the black keys one. I used to love their albums like "El Camino" or "Brothers". And sometimes I just remember one of their songs and decide to put it on, but I can't get past one song before I chose something else.
For me: Disturbed I used to play "Down With The Sickness" all the time on Rock Band 2 back in the late 2000s, but now I can't listen to it without associating it with edgy teenagers who think they're tough. I don't even think they're a bad band, it's just become hard for me to take them seriously.
+Jason LovesABR pretty much. I like Slipknot and Korn, and still listen to them every now and then, but I often remember some of their lyrics and think "wait, what?" Strangely enough, I'm not very ashamed of listening to Limp Bizkit because I never took them seriously and mostly listened to them for comedic value (whether intentional or not) and had admittedly pretty nice instrumentals. I had a huge nu metal phase in 7th grade, and while I'm not ashamed of listening to it, I'm just not as into it, you know?
I used to LOVE Skillet, they were my first concert, but now I've outgrew them. I've also outgrown the Black Keys; I'd be fine if I never heard them again!
Simple Plan Linkin Park (Except for the first two albums, I still like those) Bullet for My Valentine (Same situation as LP, I still like the first two albums) Nightwish (Although to be honest I never really got that much into them) Three Days Grace Papa Roach Shinedown
The Black Keys used to be my FAVORITE band. They were the first one whose discography I went entirely through. But I don't know... After a while, there is no punch in the music anymore. Is that it? There's just no enjoyment anymore. I guess that's just me getting older, though.
I definitely outgrew Foster The People. They still hold a special place in my heart because they're one of the first bands I really got into and the one that really opened the floodgates for my love of more eclectic music, but when I could listen to The 1975 or Chvrches or Walk The Moon or my personal favourites Grouplove, Foster The People's production and hooks seem a lot more lacklustre in hindsight. Also Lana Del Rey, but I'd really be concerned by anyone who hasn't grown out of her at this point
I outgrew: 30 seconds to Mars (and the saddest and the stupidest thing about it that I have tatoo, dedicated to them), Linkin park, Skillet, Three days grace. Also, Evanescence and Within temptation (but I still listen to them sometimes).
Liza Kolganova yes same! I'm so glad my parents were sticklers for tattoos and never let my sister or I get any at a young age (I know some people whose parents let them get some tattoos at 16) because I know for sure I'd have a shitty cringe-y band tattoo too. Lol is a coverup an option?
Liza Kolganova I out grew Evanescence too. I used to know almost all their songs by heart. Their most recent album wasn't just my cup of tea... it made me kind of sad that I was not into the album. I still enjoy them as a band, but like it has been said I just don't feel like listening to them.
My first concert... Taste of Chaos '06. The Used, Senses Fail, 30 Seconds to Mars, Aiden, Saosin, Chiodos... I outgrew ALL OF THEM. And many, many more. Except Saosin's self titled album holds a special place in my heart.
Lostprophets, 30 secods to Mars, Breathe Carolina, Metro Station, Bring Me The Horizon, Panic! At The Disco, The All American Rejects, Alesana, Cute Is What We Aim For, Yellowcard
+Venomous Vince Haha. Britpop has since caused me to discover how great Britain's music is! I wouldn't have dug deeper into their music from today, the 90's, 80's, 70's, and 60's if Britpop had never piqued my interest. I mean, how could I go my whole life without listening to the Smiths, Pink Fairies, and Pulp??
audrey quentin I really don’t know very much about American music, I was born in New Zealand, lived in Australia, and studied in the U.K. so I’ve always liked the kinds of music that were popular in those countries than America. It annoys me that when I try to get into American music there is just so much that it’s harder to find good bands because I don’t know where to go. Would you be able to recommend anything to me (seeing your replies I feel you would suggest things I like). EDIT: I realised this is 2 YEARS OLD! I doubt you will see this but if you do thanks!
Simple Plan Taking back Sunday Thousand Foot Krutch (there's still some songs I like from them) We the kings Hit the lights (I still like the song body bag) Sleeping with sirens Imagine Dragons (even though I have night visions on vinyl and I still listen to that sometimes) Papa roach Nickelback ( yes there was a time where I liked Nickelback but I won't talk about it) and lastly Hollywood Undead
Maybe it's because the Black Keys make songs that all sound alike, and their songs are retro rehashes, so they don't sound all that original to begin with. It's not a bad sound, but it's one that I've heard before.
The new I See Stars record is fantastic, much more mature songwriting, and overall improvement in just about every aspect of their sound. Check it out, it may not change your opinion of them, but it did for me as I fell off with them as well until this new release.
1: Fall Out Boy (their most recent album ruined my love for them) 2: Pierce the Veil 3: Falling in Reverse 4: Sleeping With Sirens (well... WETSAETH is still good) 5: Panic! At The Disco I love I See Stars though, but Digital Renegade and New Demons kill the first two albums
Never knew you enjoyed ISS for the most part. I thought you just reviewed their albums just to check them out, but it turns you were actually a fan of them for while. I grew out of their music as well, but I'm interested to see what they do for their new album Treehouse. Apparently, their taking a different direction with their music and I want to see what they come up with.
Green Day a little bit, since I was die hard obsessed when I was 10-14. I took a break from them for a year after some stuff went down in my life and I couldn't associate the music with myself anymore for a while. After they got inducted to the Rock and Roll hall of fame last year, I rekindled my love and was reminded why I loved them so much to begin with. Others are Katy Perry, Metric, All Time Low, P!nk, American Authors, Imagine Dragons and Linkin Park. I still listen to their stuff when it comes on shuffle, but I don't claim them to be my favorites anymore.
Simple Plan, Papa Roach, Sum 41's post-Does this look Infected stuff is patchy so I suppose I outgrew them, Boys Like Girls, Linkin Park (Given Up was their last good one for me), The Offspring and The Killers
Three Days Grace (due to Adam Gontier quitting) Flyleaf (due to Lacey Sturm quitting) Stellar Kart Hinder Hawk Nelson (especially after Jason Dunn quit) Stereo Skyline Sing It Loud Note: From most of these groups, I still like at least a handful of their songs. TDG and Flyleaf I still love their old stuff, and I'd probably get back into them if they brought back their old singers.
Four words (to choke upon, amirite): Bullet. For. My. Valentine. When I was 16 they were the coolest band ever and now I don't really care about them or follow them.
David Mitchell-Baker I can admit I don't listen to them quite as much as I used to but I still listen to them on a relatively regular basis, if that makes sense. But I definitely have listened to their new music and I can say they have matured as a band overall. Their new material still won't ever beat their old shit but they're still pretty damn good and they didn't lose their heavy core like some bands tend to do over time. They're definitely still true to their roots.

my brother's favorite band used to be skillet, but i introduced him to green day, and now he's hooked! i'm glad that he's an idiot instead of a panhead!
Nice to see your channel is still doing well!7 bands I outgrew:Nofx (garbage), Bad Religion (boring), Marilyn Manson (still stupid fun sometimes), Billy Talent (they still have someJams tho), Sum 41 (not thaaaat bad tho tbh), Tokyo Police Club (they're good tho),Rise Against (pretty much 'meh' the band), Bands I grew into; Future of the Left, melt-banana, iceage
Great video! I have one thing to say about I See Stars and that is that their upcoming Treehouse seems like it's going to be pretty good if the released singles are any indication, so would you mind reviewing it when it comes out on the 17th?
I remember watching this Naruto Clash in the Land of Snow (or whatever it was called) AMV with I'm Just a Kid as the song, back in 6th grade, over and over again because I had dial up and to watch a RU-vid video you'd have to constantly play a few seconds at a time repeatedly while it buffered, and that was like my life at the time. "I'm just a kiiiid, and this connection's a nightmare, I'm just a kiiiid 128k a second is not fair" but anyways that was my shit and all those songs from their first couple big releases, and then fucking When I'm Gone dropped and I tried so hard to understand it, like I was in denial about it trying to tell myself maybe this was what was cool at the time and I should try to get into it, but really I should've trusted my instincts because that shit was terrible and at this point they're literally just riding the waves of nostalgia, and that form of suspension in music always snaps at some point. Also haven't heard all of the newest Good Charlotte album yet, but I don't have too much faith in them either, though they did come from much more "punk" roots as opposed to Simple Plan, who always just tries to make whatever's popular at the time, in my opinion.
I'm still a Skillet fan, honestly--- but I will admit that I'm not as crazy about them as I used to be. I actually like seeing the band interact in their podcasts more than the actual music because of how entertaining they are to watch. But I won't lie when I say their music doesn't excite me as much as it did back in 2010 to 2013, my biggest years for Skillet. Yet I still can't think of anything I distinctly can point at in the music and say I don't like it--- my musical taste has just changed and I figure that is that.
Bands like Simple Plan and Papa Roach I grow out entirely. I outgrew Papa Roach's first 3 albums. And I outgrew Simple Plans first and somewhat second. I'm liking their forth a bit less, and their fifth is "eh" to me. Though I do really enjoy their third.
You are the first person outside my middle school friend group that I've ever known to even have heard of Boys like Girls. Holy cow that band takes me back. Thunder was the soundtrack of my...well, grade 7. My friends and I thought it was the most romantic song ever. Also, not that this really counts, but how you feel about the Black Keys is kinda how I feel about pickles. Like, the food. I like them, but I can't think of anything I'd put them on (I don't like them on hamburgers or anything like that), but I also feel like it's a waste to eat them by themselves. So most of the time, people assume I don't like pickles when I actually do.
