The 1st encounter with Shadar does not have a tomb The Djinn of the cauldron did not either. Also the nightmares do not either and are thrown at you without warning or safe point to heal up before they begin.
I actually prefer the battle system of this Ni No Kuni over the 2nd one. Familiars are more useful and have more of a personality. I felt more of a desire to get more familiars than I did higgledies.
I totally agree with you about the MP restoring items. Why are they so expensive? 800G for a Strong Coffee that only restores 30 MP? They are so expensive that the only time I use magic is in boss battles.
At some points you can recover most of the mp used from battles.. buy you need to get those upgrades from the merit rewards... anyway get those merit rewards as soon as you can.. dun bother to save any until you unlock the 3rd row.. because you need to complete the entire row before the next row is unlocked... and I didn't know until I was quite late in the game (after getting tengri).. and keep wondering why it never unlock... then google about it and found out about it...
The Ni No Kuni on the PS3 has by far my favorite collector's edition of any game as it came with the physical version of the book that was mentioned in this video. Such a cool thing to have
I didn’t seem to notice the issues you mentioned when I played this on the PS3, maybe because I would happily run around grinding I didn’t notice the problems with equipping my companions or even money issues. I also loved the battle system but that does seem to set me apart. I never completed the game though; I repeatedly died at the final boss with her being down to the last few percent in her final manifestation. I found it a long fight and having to do it repeatedly sapped my will to live so accepted defeat and went on you tube to see the kill. I loved the game but haven’t carried that through to Ni No Kuni 2 where I have walked away about a quarter of the way through the game because it never seemed to grip me as much (and I missed drippy intensely).
The presentation of the second game is so hit and miss too. They pick the strangest times to have no voice overs and something just feels half cooked about it.
What level were you when you faced the queen and what were your tactics? If you were level 85 with level 80 familiars and used oliver to sort of do most of the damage/healing Then you'd be fine She takes a lot of AoE and battle management You basically need full control encounter strategies and have to have some of the perks like jack the giant killer She isn't even the hardest battle either I'm sad to see that you hadn't gotten to the others
I do not recognize the trouble with money or the battle system. Sounds like you rushed the game tbh. With the ‘tactics’ option you can be very efficient in battles and if you complete the errands and bounty hunts when they’re available money, items and equipment shouldn’t be an issue either.
So grinding & doing all the side quests solves the issues. Though to be fair grinding solves the issues in 99% of RPGs & MMOs. But many of us aren't that interested in investing that kind of time now we are adults. Especially when it's repeating the same task over & over.
Oli Games You got the platinum trophy by getting all of the other trophies in the game. I also recently got all of the steam achievements aswell. I did it all again
I found battling quite stressful in the beginning, but once I accepted that you just have to commit to it, you really start leveling up very quickly and gaining perks to further beef up your familiars.
Hmm... I don't think this reviewer plays a lot of jrpg's. The battle system is clunky on the first few hours but really opens up later on. The economy has been fixed since you can sell the potions given at the start for 4.5k each, and the AI is fine, maybe this reviewer didn't have a good party? Overall it's an amazing game, get it.
I am in love with this game and is an all-time favorite, but indeed the AI companions in this Remaster seem a bit dumb. I don't remember having to micromanage during battles in the PS3 version as the AI companions held their own (sadly, I no longer have the PS3 to test this out), or at least I don't remember pausing mid-battle to check on everyone's HP and MP as much then as I do now
I wanted to play NNK1 on ps3 but never got round to it and sold it. I now have a PS4 and I really want to get it so is the remaster the same as the one on ps3 just with graphic enhancements?
I play this. The game is good i think. I enyoy play this game. The Graphic is stuning, the gameplay, the story is good, and so many information about the world that we can read. Raise the familiar, like pokemon, we give traits and so many to do, which is good.
For those curious , the main problems out lined here, mainly be the battle system and lack of funds, is because this game is based on a old jrpg trope that was still strong back then but is kinda growing a bit old now. Required grinding. This game requires you to grind your levels to complete the guild quests for money, as well as random encounter for money. It requires a (Annoyingly so) long grind session normally to get the familiers you want and to raise them up. It requires you to grind ingredients to be thrown into the alchemy pot. It requires more then surface level investiment for a more enjoyable time. As for the battle system the thing about it is, it flows much better when you play it like a old school jrpg like its other systems call back to. Micromanage your party members. You can't control their every action but you can make seen them due just enough to where it feels like you are. Thats why the Ai is kinda dumb. Not only is it dated but due to the systems ability to manage your party and its actions on the fly it requires you to be more attentive and remember you are controlling 3 members each with the ability to switch roles on the fly with their familiar.
I played this game on my ps3 when I was in second grade and got stuck in the fairy island because I couldn’t beat the boss and the ship was broken. I got the game on my Nintendo switch and finally beat it and it’s a great experience
I had my first play through on PS3, I dont remember having issues. I'm just now to Hamelin, in my first play through on the remastered Switch version, and my two AI characters are constantly dead after each battle. It could also be that this go-around I am constantly switching familiars in an attempt to get them all fully evolved. The mite was god-mode for me my first play through and this go-round, if i switch to my cat or anything else im getting owned.
To be fair, I never had that issue with my other two characters after I got the all out attack and all out defence thing. If you’re in Hamelin, you’ll have it too. That is the most useful thing in the battle system and as long as you remember to use it when a boss or mob casts a powerful attack. Characters also tend to use healing spells more during all out defence. That feature definitely makes the AI characters much more competent. If you want to level a lot of familiars keep one of your familiars you know can fight pretty much anything you come across (like your mite) and replace every other party member with other familiars you want to level up. These familiars don’t have to be used in battle to get XP. XP is shared between all members equally, it doesn’t matter if they haven’t been on the battlefield.
So in the pc version, you can't draw the runes. How to you use runes in the pc ver? And you can't run around in fights like the ps3 version? (Turn base only?) Edit: I did play the original
The issues you pointed are real. The game can be a grindfest. And the party members AI is non-existent. But the game is gorgeous and I kinda like it. It has that Ghibli magic touch.
That is constantly my only gripe about anything that is not truly turn-based, is the fact that most AI is dumb and does real head scratcher things like use up all the MP in one battle.
Man. Having to draw the spells with your mouse would have absolutely ruined this game for me 💯. I am so, so glad they didn't include that. Also, it sure sounds like you don't really understand the battle system or making money in this game.
Ninokuni 2 is bad i stopped at chapter 6 cuz its relly easy n the bosses r so week but Ninokuni 1 its hard shadar with out grinding tokos is so hard i didnt fight the last boss on ps3 cuz i just decide to stop at the door behind her n stop playing the game
Combat was already annoying with the original PS3 version, because familiars and party members would constantly get in the way of each other and kind of just bumble around blocking each other's attacks.
Nice to hear from Mathew's better half. I can see why Mathew has gotten so much better at Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition with such an expert RPG gamer to provide tips. Would love to hear more from her on other RPG's. And perhaps she could guest on one of the Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition sessions.
Guys who cares about the fact that this "remastered" game has practically the same graphics? All I care about is that it's finally on Steam so I don't have to buy a PS3 literally JUST so I can play this game! 50$ is not that much for a game as amazing as this, especially when you realize that an extremely low quality game, Pokemon Sword and Shield, somehow costs 10$ more than this game which was very well-made for its age.
I started hating my familiars towards the middle-end of this game. They require too much fiddling and attention and you have 9 of them ready for combat once you're fully setup. Getting them all leveled up, getting their upgrade items, etc...
@@RicochetForce They require basically 0 effort. Getting them all levelled up is easy because they all earn exp regardless of if they participate or not. There's no reason they wouldn't all be at combat ready levels at basically all times. Even when they matamporphise it only takes a few battles to level them up competently
@@chuggaa100 The moment you said they require 0 effort is the moment I stopped caring. Pokemon require 0 effort. Familiars require just absurd babying for standard use (let alone maximizing them) to the point that I consider them one of the worst executions of the creature catcher/tamer concept. And the fact that they lose their damn levels when they metamorphose was just ADDED grinding that almost no other franchise does because it's thoroughly unnecessary.
after beating the second game I figured I'd try the first and its sooooo different. I have the same problem with the battles and I haven't gotten far into it yet I'm about to say NOPE and just quit lol
Maybe he is just a tired boi? He did just lose his mum and get thrown through a portal to a totally different dimension lol, i would be pretty exasperated too lmao
Patrick Lett He has an exhausted animation because he's still new to this world. He starts getting a grip of things once he gets his fancy new wizard outfit though.
I love this game but I have to agree the companion Ai for esther can be stupid at somepoints. E.g sending out a familiar for all out defence who cant defend
Ugh I’m so disappointed with this game. There’s nothing good about it except for brilliant animations and without them It’s just a painfully average production. Combat feels super tidious and repetitive af, dialogues seem very underwritten. Mana system is plain weird and annoying because it forces you not to use it in case you might need it to perform some out of combat actions (why does lighting up a cauldron which opens the door you need to pass through even take mana ffs?!), so lack of regen feels clunky and unfair. There are countless small issues like that with this game and I’m not sure I can accept it in a ps3 game because we had way better balanced and written classic jrpgs on a god damn psx. Shame
Sounds naf? That a cartoon game aimed at kids shows the player how people can be depressed and that by doing good deeds for them you can cure them? Yeah naf.
@@spectrethefox5450 well the fact its rated so that kids can play it makes it "aimed at kids" in my book just because most games are violent and kids shouldnt really be exposed to that
