I think Merle was killed off because he upstaged Daryl. Michael Rooker was the best thespian actor on the show by far, and everytime the Dixon brothers were portrayed in a scene together in Season 3, Merle stole the show!
TheBob1901 I think Merle is supposed to steal whichever scene he's in with Daryl. He's a much more boisterous, abrasive character, properly befitting his older brother status.
TheBob1901 i only liked this comment bc yes Merle always stole the show wen Daryle was around but tbh Daryle is WAYYY better than Merle i think thats y they killed off Merle they actually killed him off for alot of reasons.(1) he was a threat (2) he put ppl in danger that didnt hav to be in that place (3) he just ruined Daryls reputation an (4) he always tried to make Daryle someone he wasnt if Merle had stayed Daryl would absolutely not be the man he is an tbh i lovr Daryle hes the best Merle was killed off bc of good reasons an it had a benefit to the series in my opinion
That would have been interesting to have him take Eugene's role. It did annoy me that Beth was killed just so Noah could escape, and then they killed Noah off shortly after anyway :/
I don't think Noah's actor would have done a good job in Eugene's role. I don't understand why Beth had to die to bring Noah onto the show only to have him die not long after, while bringing Tyrese with him. It's like they threw darts at a board and killed off any of the side characters they hit.
I’ll never forget Merle. The brother dynamic with Daryl was perfect. How they grew into two different people and grew apart, and how Daryl never got to say goodbye inspired me to make amends with my own brother because you never know when people will take their last breath.
Axel turning out to be related to Dwight would be legit. Oh, and your point about Rick / Jessie being more genuine and believable than Rick / Michonne is spot on.
Never thought about the Axel/Dwight thing before, but now you mention it they do look pretty similar. I'm surprised so many fans love the whole Richonne thing, everytime I see them kiss it's watching like two friends try and make out :/
+predatoure I agree Michonne woul be better with ezickel I thought Jessie would be Andrea since she was turned blonde but I think she was plan to live but I don't know what happened
James Gemsss Bloodison ohhh OK...yeah I mean in the show they've had almost no interaction, but honestly I'd prefer her with the King rather than Morgan
I actually remember Axel and loved his character. I definetly remember him and it was sad that he had to go. I still liked the governor tho. Bob was a great character also, but I wasn't very fond with him that much. I also thought Meryl was more memorable. I thought he was a cool character despite his introduction to the series.
BCorr not me I love the guy I barley even pay attention to its horrible plot after his and Phils deaths and hope they return now that be epic for him just to show up to his brother as a savior and be a Woodbury spy for Phil Blake after taming his spit personality known as the governor and be at war with Negan after clearing out zombie infested Woodbury with the real Bryan Heriot and his ymca group then we finally meeting Orlando the handyman mechanic who had half his face chewed off by walkers and lived and then they go to war with a raider who returned to the area from a long time ago who was a rougue military general that started the war with the military and killed his daughter Penny and brother after reuniting with a wounded half dead Merle surrounded and helping him Merle almost kills him but the governor convinces him he's changed and understands why he Portrayed him because his loyalty will always be more dedicated to his brother other than him and almost leaves when more walkers show up and in the end he is grabbed by a crawler and falls and is almost killed by them but the gov3rnor empty stomach his bullets into hem and takes and wrestles the last walker and almost lost but Merle impala it with Merle jr and rejoins Woodbury and after defeating the raider general they go to a rebuilt terminus for supplies and new recruits being held there after destroying terminus and reducing it to nothing again and killing the new leader he finds Lily hiding in the remains of the prison while looking for anything left behind and she joins him with the remainder of the original Woodbury survivors who were truly loyal the whole time and thought they had no choice but to leave and the river group and then meet a cowboy from Texas named Klyde leaving Washington saying he's left because Negan killed his group but he escaped and survived and joins Phil and his rebuilt militia heading to Washington where they run into Ricks gang in an episode called memory lane after Merle found Daryl after Daryl attacked his group he was spying on he walks up to Daryl and they have a moment of augh then memory lane happens where Rick and the gang check out a group assumed to be Negan after drawing a gun on a man who draws on him and is Phil Blake and Phil says so ....we meet again then Merle and Daryl show up and the rest of Ricks group hold guns to Phils who raised there's to except for Daryl still deeply traumatized to see his brother alive and with the governor. to be continued till next episode welcome back to woodbury.
I loved to see Merle being at the top spot. He is so underrated, one of the most complex and interesting characters on show, as well as one of the best actors. For me, Merle is not only the best The Walking Dead characters, he is even one of my favorite characters of all time.
I loved the CDC storyline and hate that the show doesn't try to focus more on what's going on with the zombie apocalypse, without it we just have people walking in circles.
It was probably best he died he was a good guy but he probably would have caused some problems with the group due to what has happened with him in the past
In the comics dale survived till terminus and instead of Bob, dale got eaten. Bob wasn't in the comics. AND Instead of hershel dale lost his leg to the Walker wich left him with no legs when the people at terminus at his other leg. AND in the comics axel was a big buff bearded guy with long hair and a huge beard. AND in the comics Daryl and merle didnt exist
Fun fact: In season 1 episode 2 a SWAT team was called, because peeps out of the stage were scared of Merle shooting from the rooftop. They had to explain everything.
Great call on Merle being #1! Micheal Rooker absolutely stole some of those scenes in the 3rd season. I would even go so far as to say he was the greatest thing about Season 3!
They killed him off for no reason, because Glen Mazzara is an asshole. He was originally going to survive through season 4 and maybe further. Mazzara was just killing off characters for no good reason. T-Dog, Andrea, and Merle died for nothing.
@@aft5264 Merle was a great character with a good full arc and I hated him in season one cause he was just a racist ass junkie but became one of the best parts of season 3
@@aft5264 Andrea sucked from the first scene she was in until the last the actress just had the ultimate resting bitch face and attitude like her shit don't stink top 5 worst characters ever in the show
SlasherFilms01 exactly, just think back to the original group from season 1. Most of them got killed of in season 3 and all were pointless for shock value that failed miserably...
My list, in no particular order: 1) Jim (nice guy and a capable zombie slayer back when even the likes of Carol and Andrea were screaming and crying in the corner) 2) Sophia (mostly just because I like her character in the comics; Madison Lintz has developed into a good young actress, so it would have been nice to see her stick around and grow up with Carl) 3) Jenner (such an intriguing and deep character for someone who only appeared in two episodes) 4) Amy (less annoying version of Beth) 5) Otis (nice guy who died a hero....sort of) 6) Morales (damn you Daryl!) 7) Guillermo (badass fighting for what's right; what's not to like?) 8) Martinez (not sure why, just a cool, laidback henchman who seemed to be enjoying himself in the apocalypse) 9) Bob (friendly guy who brought a much-needed lightheartedness to the group) 10) Lizzie (would have been interesting for them to develop her character more; I wonder how Carl would have dealt with her going crazy) 11) Lilly (why did they give her an offscreen death? I feel like she had more potential than Tara, who is a rather bland character) 12) Alisha (hot, battle-capable woman; too bad she was on the evil side) 13) Martin (straight up psychopath with no fear; these sorts of people are always intriguing even if they're creepy) 14) Gareth (a cool villain; died way to early) 15) Jessie (I was really hoping we'd see her character develop more and maybe take on comic Andrea's role, since they did change her from a brunette in the comics to a blonde)
Great list. Especially would have liked to see more of 2, 3, 7, and 15. Edith is Sophia's replacement, and like you, I thought Jesse would take the Andrea role from the comics. Her brief time on the show revealed that she had become a handy shooter in a short space of time - showing the potential to develop into ace sniper material like comic book Andrea.
I think Lilly is still out there somewhere. Maybe she found the new world order and when they get to that story ark in the show she will reunite with her sister. Tara.
@LF Customs he appeared on season 1 only for one episode. At first he appears as a villain but is actually running a group protecting old people who were abandoned in a nursing home. Very wasted character
This is a very unpopular opinion, but I wish Jacqui from season 1 was still alive. We didn’t learn a lot about her, and I found her very interesting with her defending Carol. I would love to see what she’s be like if she was still on the show
+Rowan07001484 really omg your such a dumbass race don't fucking matter there been movie with more then one black survive jeez we are supposed to be out of the times of race I'm black and white so
I kinda wish he survived and just parted ways acknowledging he was holding Daryl back and he should move on, then return later perhaps for the Savior storyline. It’d still have emotional impact I believe rather than a pointless death for shock value.
Bob , t-dog and merel were great ! Its so sad they had to go Oh also the doctor in hiltop and the priest were making a good team and i started liking hes character more then he had to die And im still mad over glenns death
Milton for me was like Eugene but less of a liar and a coward, he's weak but he atleast TRIES to step up and doesn't betray the good guys like Eugene does, he's also a smart guy like Eugene but he actually did something and doesn't just sit back and cower with whoever is stronger. R.I.P Milton.
Eugene didn't join negan by choice. He was forced to and still helped by making the guns explode. I find it dumb how people try to bad talk Eugene because of that but doesn't mention what I just did
I always remember Bob (TAINTED MEAT!) Jessi is a character i always forget about. She has the same character arc as Carol. I know shes not on the list but Andrea is one i often forget about. Which is weird because i like her in the comics, and lament the fact that there is no chemistry between Rick and MIchonne.
Andrea is a good suggestion, I think that due to how badly the show handled her she's a character I often forget about as well. Glad you agree on me about Rick and Michonne, I always seem to get a lot of hate when I mention that the two don't seem right for each other, but I just don't see any real spark between them.
predatoure what's funny is I felt there was more chemistry between Rick and Michonne when they weren't a couple. I was always thinking, "oh just fuck already." lol. Then when they did it was like oh, okay...after that, they should've just made them more confused and awkward about their attraction to one another, like 'this shouldn't have happened it just did' but always have those lingering feelings. Idk. They're more better as a 'what if' than an actual thing.
I was really surprised and really hated it when Jessie died cause I really really felt like she would stay long on the show and end up with Rick. And you're totally right about the Rick/Michonne thing. I think they should've made them love each other but in a brother/sister way cause them being lovers is really weird for me
Since this show isn't about survival or finding a cure anymore, maybe some of the old Nuclear Weapons could detonate and spice things up. Turn this show into more of a Fallout / MadMax style. Why? Well it's all about murder now so why the hell not.
Jon Snow thanks :) I actually did have Noah on this list originally, as I quite liked him as well, but for for some reason I just struggled with what to write about him. I feel as though I probably need to go back and watch the episodes he was in again.
Jessie is the reason Sam got them killed. She and the rest of the adults in Alexandria did their best to coddle the children and obscure the reality of life on the outside from them. When Sam goes from that straight into a mental breakdown it's because Jessie didn't bother to acclimate him to the new reality. I think she deserves Sam's position in your worst characters in TWD.
8:29 I definitely agree with you on rick and Jessie. They have good chemistry and worked better as a couple way more than Rick and Michonne. I hate the Rick and Michonne relationship it's Horrible and bad chemistry. I wish Jessie was still alive instead to be with Rick.
Nice to see someone who agrees on Rick and Jessie, I really liked Jessie and I wish the show hadn't gone down the comic book route of killing her off. Even now I still don't really see Michonne and Rick and romantic partners, there's just no spark between them.
predatoure exactly I prefer Rick and Michonne as friends rather than relationship partners. I just don't think it works no chemistry. It would have been cool if Jessie lived and they change it up.
YESSSSSSS COME ON OUT RACIST! JESSE WAS WHITE AND COULDN'T STAND NEAR MICHONNE IN ANY CAPACITY! JUST WHITE THAT DIED JUST LIKE THE REST OF HER REDICULOUS WHITE FAMILY!
On the Talking Dead, they revealed Axel was originally going to turn out to be the crazy rapist/murderer character but they scrapped that decision and rewrote him as a decent guy, probably for the best.
Mediocre Manic Speaking of those doors, what about Nicholas? Sure he was a lying coward that almost got Glenn killed twice, but he was at least an unforgettable character!
Where’s Noah at? He was easily my favourite character outside Glenn. I loved his character and while his story wasn’t amazing but I still enjoyed learning what little we found out about him and seeing him cope with events like Beth’s death, learning his home had been overrun leading to his family’s end and then for me at least, I loved him kind of going outside the box trying to keep Alexandria standing, helping bring some history of Alexandria and Deanna’s husband’s story into play.
this tv series has been out for 8 years, i've watched a series of hard work for 8 years over the course of 4 weeks. i cant tell if im proud of my self or dissapointed
Does anyone think it’s interesting that everyone loves Merle despite his overt racism and sexism? I mean I love him too, just wondering if that says something about us as a society!
Ok, let's start the game. Try to imagine yourself as the character of TWD, but you're na yourself, no personality changes, nothing changes about you. Then imagine Merle being next to you. What would he say to you? What would he do to you? Now. Is he that loveable? In my case he's still the Merle that I really like.
It's just a fictional character! People like evil characters such as Negan, Hannibal, Dexter, and Walter White, that doesn't mean they're okay with murder.
It's pretty sad that we don't ever see those Daryl/Merle hallucinations anymore. I felt like that was a great touch to Daryl's character to see that love-hate relationship with his brother who always gave him motivation but at the cost of belittling him. I feel like there's been many moments throughout the series where those hallucinations would have been appropriate
Axel was pretty likable, I think he got killed off too soon. But that one scene where he tries to talk to Beth is kind of creepy. He clarifies he thought Carol was a lesbian which kind of reveals his intentions with Beth. I know it's a post-apocalyptic world, and there isn't a lot of choice out there for partners, but that doesn't make it less creepy for a 40-something year old convict to be thirsting over a 16 year old girl.
I found merle to be one of my favorite characters. He was a complex through his words and action. He gave some racist remarks and beat up some characters, but he showed he cared for his brother along with his group and stood up to the governer to try to keep his brother and the group safe. This can be debated, but I think that merle was a good person who did what was right(some of the time).
Merle had reason for what he did to Gleen he didn't trust him and left him to die on a roof chained to a pole with walkers approaching only reason he didn't die was because T Dog had to big of a heart to leave Merle to die so he left him a saw and locked the door on one side with baracades and if Merle stayed he knew they wouldn't let him see Daryl so he took them hostage to reveal there location so he could go with more people to find his brother and have a less likelyness of getting killed by Rick.
Agree 100% about Merle as the #1 pic. And while it was shitty to beat up Glenn that was the moment when we saw him go from pizza delivery kid to a determined survivor and capable protector of Maggie.
I've only recently started watching TWD (almost finished season 5) and am spoiled for most things, and I agree about Merle! Totally gutted that he was killed off at a point when his character was really being fleshed out. I keep imagining his reactions in their current situations and realising what a void he left! Oh well.
So I'm not the only fan of Axel. He was a likable guy but part lf it was because I knew him from The Devil's Rejects and I was like hey, it's Lew Temple.
I liked Edward Jenner and I wanted him to survive I think it would of been pretty cool if they developed his character and who knows he might of even joined ricks group and become an important member
Gareth was such an effective character because he didn't get a character arc. The writers didnt try and humanize a cannibalistic psychopath, and instead had Rick put him and his crew down like the sick puppies they are. I love the first couple episodes of season 5 because of Gareth. He was just a scary guy, and the story arc with Terminus, Gareth, and Father Gabriel's church is one of my favs. Even Father Gabriel has come such a long way.
Non So..... you like Jon Behrnthal, not necessarily Shane. Because let's be honest, Shane was an asshole. Not just because he had caught on early to the reality of the situation, but he also had sex with his best friends wife, shot someone else in the leg (essentially sacrificing him to a walker hoard), completely lost his shit and tried to kill his best friend and generally walked around for an entire season with a chip on his shoulder. He wasn't supposed to be a villian, but he had effectively turned into one by the time he died. Just saying.
Gareth is my favourite villain from the show thus far. Would have loved for the cannibles storyline to have lasted longer. It could have been terrifying.
Personally, I thought Jessie + Rick made a lot more sense than Rick + Michonne. The latter of the two romances felt extremely forced compared to everyone else’s throughout the show.
Have to agree regarding Jesse. I would've loved to see a parallel between her progression and Carol's after losing her child, except in a way that would've seen her spiral downward and not get stronger. Perhaps she could've taken the Carol storyline from the comic and actually fed herself to a walker. I think it would've been a very different/divisive look at how people deal with trauma. But, we got what we got.
