And.....I just have to say...... it makes me SO HAPPY to see you guys doing awesome on RU-vid!!!! Lol I've always considered you my knife spirit animal lol.....and the reason I'm so heavy into knives and edc!!!!!.....God bless you guys!!!I wish you all the success.... keep killing it
Just ordered an altus because I’ll be traveling the entire US next summer for Drum Corps International. Not sure that I’m allowed to carry knives in the program, but I usually don’t go anywhere without them anyway. I think you get a lot of bang for your buck with an Altus, it’ll definitely make a great travel knife.
I used to only buy knives with serrations because I was horrible at sharpening😅 but now it’s indifferent to me if a knife has them or not..you should make a video of different types of serrations and the best tasks for each type..veff are my favorite if I had to pick
Serrations we're great working in the electrical trades just made cutting easier. Now retired the standard blades are all I need. Mostly into American made but I have to say that conspirator looks pretty nice. I think I might have to pick one up, It just keeps popping up I 've been looking at it for a while. I want to Thank you again for getting the boys back together, It reminds me of working with my friends (Just Good Guys) /// PEACE
I got a jade g10 Cogent (no serrations) and dyed the scales and anodized a titanium clip for it. One of my favorite knives to edc. I may just have to pick up a conspirator too
I have four WE/Civivi/Sencut button lock knives. The Culex is my favorite but the Altus and Conspirator are also excellent. The Sencut Watauga is my latest button lock and it is a great budget button lock knife. Bottom line - you can’t go wrong with a WE/Civivi/Sencut button lock.
I used to have a victorinox soldier, that knive has the serrations where they should go, next to the tip, and the plain edge nearly to the handle where I think is better because you cut pushing whit the plain part using your streinght and the serrations to slashing, and it has a pry bar that locks, a great saw, philips and awl
I only like serrations when they are closer to the tip of the blade. For example, like the ones in the Victorinox New Soldier. I believe that's where they should be. They make more sense when cutting through tough material. Great video.
I find serrated a useful Necessity for cutting many things …. Really a must on a seat belt in a vehicle. It’s actually easy to sharpen you just need a hand held diamond rod type. Wish more manufacturers would put serrations on their blades ! Great Video Thanks
Conspirator has been in my pocket since it hit the market. Swapped the clip out for a titanium one from Amazon. The color was great match for the nitro v blade color.
I have heard you talk about WeVivi's micarta, but never understood until getting the Chevalier and now I totes get it. Their micarta is way more gooder than most. I love the Chevalier. It has been getting a ton of pocket time and it is one of my most budget friendly knives.
Serrations serve a purpose, 9 times out of 10 for me personally they just get in the way and look awkward. I personally own 2 knives out of 20-25 in my collection at the moment. One of them is always with me because I do use it at work all the time, Leatherman Free P2, but it has been years since I carried a serrated knife on purpose.
It should be noted that Kizer has killed it this year with their button lock models: Assassin/XL, Begleiter/XL, Original/XL, Chili Pepper, Swaggs Swayback, Cormorant, Gemini, and HIC CUP. Even Artisan Cutlery/CJRB are coming along with fine button lock specimens.
The mini malice does not have a reversible pocket clip , you said at the beginning, all of them would and you guessed it! That's the one I want as a lefty!
The only button lock I own is the the We Mini Malice and out of the 30+ knives I own for EDC, it is by far my favorite. The action is so good and the blade shape is perfect for EDC.
I have that same CF/Damascus Button Lock Elementum! I was a big fan of the Elementum, but I personally favor a finger-safe locking mechanism, so I HAD to get myself the Button Lock Elementum!
I have a Cogent that I really like and just bought an Altus and a Kizer Hic-Cup last Friday when the sales started launching to get a couple more button locks.
I have an Altus and I'm really impressed with it. I'm a mechanic and I used it at work for 6 months or so, and it's held up great. Still super smooth even covered in dust and grease! The nitro v surprised me as well, holds a decent edge and it's actually really tough because it hasn't chipped with what I've put it through lol. Also no serrations for me, thanks.
Thanks for this! I've been on the fence for the Cogent and Altus.. After seeing this I guess the Altus is for me! Also, great work on making this a walk and talk video instead of an on the bench sit down setup. It really gives a better perspective on the knife sizes and the overall feel of a showcase video! Subscribed!
You missed the Sencut line. I've heard great things about the Crowley. However, the best budget button lock in my opinion is the CJRB Pyrite. It's fantastic.
I prefer to have either a fully serrated blade, or not serrated, and, since I carry more than 1 knife at a time, I usually have both.. I'd be good with a sheepsfoot or Wharncliffe with a combo edge, but would prefer the serrations on the other end of the blade though. Just seems like it would be more useful. Or, now that I'm thinking about it, take, say, an 7 inch blade, and had the middle 4 inches serrated. You could still do close in and tip work with the plain edges, and use those serrations to their fullest potential.
I just don't like serrations cause sharpening is a pain and it takes up space on the knife. You really only need it on one multitool (I use leatherman signal). I am planning on buying more button lock knifes I currently have the CRKT bt fighter (only around 45 bucks so not bad) and do far I love it. I have alot of linear locking knifes and I don't particularly love that style of locking but I love the look of the knifes.
I have a wood scale Civivi Conspirator in my pocket right now and I love it! Fantastic slicer and ever so fidgetable with the flipper tab, the button lock, and you can even Spydie flick it!
Most of these are great models. I don’t like the Elementum’s version of a button lock, as it is the only deployment method. I have a Cogent and a Conspirator, and both are terrific. I’d like to get an Altus, as that size knife is much more practical for my day to day uses. The Mini Malice is also on my “some day” list (in blue, if you’re feeling generous, Civivi). I personally can’t stand serrations on anything other than a bread or steak knife, but I don’t cut rope or line in my life very often. I did have a surprising amount of success with sharpening a friend’s serrated knife with a conical file that was made for the task. The file was cheap, so maybe look into that if you like serrations, but dread sharpening them.
Great video Zac, I need to get one of these button locks from civivi. The conspirator apparently is the best but I like the tactical vibe of the cogent and more discreet. You guys made me a knife adict. Keep up the great work brother 👍
I would love your opinion on the Sencut Sachse Zac. These are all great models but I feel like civivi prices are steadily climbing out of true "budget" territory. That conspirator in particular looks very cool though.
I’m going to wait for the Civivi mini elementum button lock. I don’t think they make a mini of that yet do they? I generally don’t use knives for anything except minor stuff like opening boxes or cutting string so I don’t really need a huge blade unless I’m going in the outdoors in which case I would bring a fixed blade .
I had a cogent whose scales i dyed red and man was that thing buttery. I did end up trading that and a few others in for an ZT 0562CF. I have no regrets. But absolutely stellar button locks.
I've got about 10 button locks now I've got A Sencut Sache I've got the OG elementum button lock and the sheepfoot Civivi Chevalier button lock.... but anyway they do A very good job on them for sure 🔥 TwoSun has some nice button locks out as well for fairly cheap with great materials 👍 CJRB Pyrite has super smooth action, one of the best out of almost all my button locks and it's only like 45 bucks 🐐
I have the cogent, elementum button lock and the Chavelier. My favorite by far is the cogent... It's all about the handle for that one. Handle is amazing. Love the clip point, but the handle made the whole knife for me. Second is the elementum button lock, it's so simple and so flingie! The Chavelier is odd because I got wood handles on it, the blade is quite a bit heavier than the scales. Makes the action super good, but balanced to the tip, and as a pocket knife that's very odd feeling.
I have a couple of the button locks and attempted to put the upgraded pocket clip on them and the screws(original or included) are not long enough to make it through the micarta scales. :(
I know the video is focusing on button locks but I'm honestly sad you didn't mention the grind on the elementum. The edge that knife came with is UNREALL
I don't own any button locks yet, but the chevalier has been on my list for a while. I am a sucker for anything knight related and I love the blade shape. I just wish you could get a micarta scales with the satin blade. Maybe I will end up getting the wood one.
I love all my Civivis, but the Conspirator is definitely my favorite, button lock or otherwise. Love the mini Malice too. Great ergos for such a small knife and the action is fantastic. I really like the Sencut Sachse as well. I actually prefer it over the Altus. Probably just a matter of personal taste though.
@@zacinthewild 9Cr blade steel, but otherwise just as well built as any of my Civivis. And half the price of any of the newer Civivis that have come out in the past year or two. I only have the Sachse so far, but I'll definitely be getting more. I was kinda bummed when you left Blade HQ, but I've really been enjoying your channel.👍✌
Thanks, Zac. My favorite is the Conspirator as from your lineup, but the Sencut Sachse may be the best overall value buttonlock of 2022 (with Vosteed Raccoon & CJRB Pyrite right there too).
100% on the Conspirator (along with the Raccoon and Pyrite). The Sencut line represents some exceptional value. I bought the Watauga and it’s fantastic.
Serrations are a pain to sharpen and I rarely - more or less never - cut materials where a serration really helps. Rope sure, but I can cut rope OK with a sharp plain blade. And it's not like I'm a rope salesman. I only cut rope... not very often. @Zac In The Wild - tell me I should want serrations for EDC unless they are related to my job?
I don't like combo blades because it severely limits what you can do on the non-serrated part. It's so far out it makes it very difficult to shave or feather stick, any kind of batoning gets harder, etc. Serrations are good for cutting fibrous things like seatbelts, rope, etc. Basically rough severing actions.. And only having a little bit on your blade makes it not do that job very well either. The leatherman wave is a great tool because it has both serrated as well as straight blade, making it the perfect solution
Elementum Button Lock is one of my favorites... I like better than Elementum 2,possibly because of the size. Kizer doing some great button locks as well
I’ve got a button lock elementum that I like. Haven’t carried it as much as I should because my Shaman won’t leave my pocket!😅 might have to pick up a conspirator tho. Great vid brother!🤘🔥
Ahhhh thank you for mentioning the Malibu 🙏🙏🙏🙏........ I've just really fallen in love with the Malibu....it could literally be my last knife ever and I'd be ok with it lol that won't happen lol but it could be
Easier to sharpen a plain edge blade and serrated blades seem to catch when cutting smooth things like plastic sheet. If I ever needed serrations I'll use my leatherman.
Hi bro is there any chance you could put a couple of links so I can buy a decent knife I live in London UK and how law is we can only carry a knife of three half inches but I can't find anything good over hear. Great idea's on the button lock I think cool video bro👊
I look forward to seeing that video bro. It's hard to get a good brand knife hear now days. There is a lot of knife crime in London UK. And it's spoiled it for us knife collector's.👊
Unless you are cutting rope serrations are useless. They take away half of the most useful part of your blade. For a while serrations we’re all over the knife world. Notice how they have mostly disappeared? That’s for a good reason. They suck. You can’t carve or feather stick. Love your videos! 7:59
This video was just what I needed. I'm trying to get the girlfriend a knife and she's not a knife person but thinks they're cool. Inspired by your guys' previous video, I had her try all all the major lock types except for button and automatic as I don't have one/not legal for me to buy. She favored the lock back because it provided the safest closing. I think she'll like a button lock better.
🚨OPINION BASED COMMENT ALERT (so everyone calm down)🚨 The first several Civivi buttonlock models had mushy/weak detent (yeah I said it!). They (meaning all under the WE umbrella) seem to have stepped up the action in the Sencut line. Specifically the Watagua has TERRIFIC, CRISP, SNAPPY detent! On another note I wanted to love the Conspirator…FANTASTIC design…but again that detent threw me off too much! Sorry Civivi, you’re still my favorite brand!!
Great feedback! I’m hearing a lot about Sencut. I need to get a few in hand. I found all the detent a to my personal liking but it’s great to hear other thoughts. Thanks for weighing in👊
@@zacinthewild yeah man detent is a HIGHLY personal opinion! Several people liked them. If you get ahold of a Sencut I’d be interested to hear your thoughts in a comparison.
@@yanjijay6752if you want something you can beat on that’s proven and under $100 my go to would be the Gerber strong arm. All around tough and should be able to handle a good deal of chopping.
