@hondaphan4172
@hondaphan4172 2 года назад
I still drive my '98 CRV to work and to run errands so I've only been putting 7500-8000 miles on her the last five years or so...in six months I'll hit the 300K mile mark. I drove it off the dealership lot just over 24 years ago and I'm still amazed by the crazy reliability of the first gen V's. Six months ago I finally had to replace the original starter and I'm still rolling with the original fuel pump and alternator although I DID replace the brushes on the alternator around seven years ago. If you maintain a first gen V, and that includes adjusting the valve clearance every 40k miles), the engines are almost bullet-proof. Mine still purrs like a kitten.
@thomasmcmahan2014
@thomasmcmahan2014 2 года назад
I have a ‘98 as well! And you’re right, they’re bullet proof. The first gen, RD1 CRV’s are amazing. The B20 motor is super reliable as well, as long as you do normal maintenance. I’m the third owner on mine and you can tell the previous owners loved and maintained the car, the interior and exterior are in fantastic condition. You don’t see many first gens on the road anymore though, everyone trades up and gets younger.

Dude…yours looks CLEAN (if that’s it in your thumbnail picture) I love the street look to it. I have a ‘98 5 speed, on a small lift/wheels with a luggage rack. GX470, it'll last 400k and unlike most of the rest. Engine simplicity is king in long-term reliability. That said they're mostly north of $12,000 in 2022 and have well over 100k miles. If you find a unicorn it costs $25,000-$30,000+

Fairly honest review. We can never dismiss this 99% truth: "When you buy a used car, ur also buying the headaches that it gave the previous owner!" The prices they are mentioning here, are the fluke and bottom prices of such used cars that have all the problems u can imagine that's why the owner is trying to get rid of it. The used decent ones have prices pretty close to brand news. (2) options u can ponder: 1. Just get a reasonable brand new car within ur budget, IMPORTANT: get the longer warranty if you plan to keep the car. Then, worrying about any breakdown & unscheduled expenses will take the backseat of ur mind at least for the next 5-6 yrs. Cars nowadays have improved much with technology that as long as you comply with scheduled maintenance, the vehicle will always serve it's purpose. 2. In case u really have to buy a used one, it's best to get it from people u really know (not a friend's friend), in which u have a very good idea of this person and how the vehicle was used. Don't be immediately hooked with a brand name or the outside looks. Take it to a mechanic without the seller and get an objective check points of the engine/transmission first, then all the other components & luxury items if any. *** Remember, getting a car is a major step in life especially first timers. So be wise & smart and get advice from reliable experienced people. If u don't have any back-up support system, chances are ur going to get duped 100%. I had a neighbor before who hastily brought a nice shiny sports car. Ended up being a driveway ornament and have not seen it move for years and I saw the face of the owner also aged fast and caught him kicking the car a few times. There is a by chance silver lining & jackpot used car buys that is exactly how our lady host is describing BUT that comes very far few in-between in real life. Thanks for the tips on the video. It's nice to know which brands some people have at least had positive experiences with. That's a good start when you really really have to buy a used car from zero idea & info.

@@lunachick7549 I own a 2013 CRV and it had 41,000 miles on it when I bought it. It now has 158,000 miles and still runs great! They say the most reliable CRV's are the 2011-2015! Just keep up on the maintenance and you're golden! I love mine so much its staying in the family and going to my kid!

It is an underrated compact suv. I have a '02 cr-v ex with only 154k miles on it. Still runs great with no issues. All I do is preventive maintenance and don't even baby it. Bought it from my dad and will pass it on to my oldest kid when he starts driving in a few years.That's 3 generation of ownership 👍 It's amazing to see lots of 1st & 2nd gen cr-vs still on the road. What a great vehicle!

Same chasis and engine for the 1kz 185TE as the Lexus/prado so there you have it. I owe one and they have a flaw on hot countries,the thermostat goes pretty crazy and eats your gasket so look for it. Radiators are not great as some other Toyotas and my turbocharger is gone.I still love it though. The country I live is the real deal testing for any car and brand, it's crazy

I'm the original owner of my 2000 V10 Ford Excursion. Parts are cheap and available anywhere, the mechanicals are simple and conventional, it's simple to work on and you will hardly know when any of the SUVs on this list, even the Tahoe, disappear underneath. Something to be said for occupant safety so you can be around to enjoy all 500,000 miles of your SUVs life.

My wife has a 14' CRV and it's certainly been reliable. We stick to the maintenance schedule and haven't had any reliability issues. That in mind, it has a CVT trans and they notoriously act up. They won't fail you but can cause a "stutter" at 20-30mph or so. We've had it looked into at our Honda dealer and basically they said there's no way to fix it, it wound strand you anywhere or decrease the cars reliability, but it's just annoying and you just sorta have to live with it. Additionally, I have an 06' GX470. I love it, but bear in mind it's a 14 year old car. Rust is present but nothing structural. My airbags lasted to 160k miles and I swapped out to springs which was an easy weekend project. Also note the diff fluids need to be changed every 30k miles or so, the driveshafts should be lubed every oil change. Also, the exhaust manifolds have the catalytic converters on them, so every 6-10 years they like to crack. I changed each side for a total of $1.1k and it took an entire weekend of hard, strenous work. It was not fun at all and my knuckles were bleeding. Last, The front brakes tend to bind for some reason. I first changed mine 3y ago, then they bound up again 1y ago. Lexus fixed it for the GX460 by making the rotors thicker and adding more metal for heat dispersion. Conveniently the early 460 rotors and calipers fit on the GX470, so for $700 or so you can upgrade at the time of swapping. You're going to see that kind of maintenance on any old car. My GX has never left me stranded, it always starts (excepts when the alternator blew out, $200 fix), and its the most comfortable vehicle for the money to get you through armageddon.

The Tahoe with the 5.3 has dod management problems. You're looking at 3k to correct that problem. The highlander is far from a beast or large. The Buick is a piece so you should be able to get the owner to pay you to drive it away.

No love for Toyota 4runners? I had a 3rd gen with 312k on it and still running strong and traded it for a 4th gen with only 206k on it, barely broken in, LOL If the next guy gives it a little love that 3rd gen will easily make 500k with only timing belts for major maintenance. Only reason I traded is the suspension was worn out and I'm too old to work on my own stuff .

The guy who burned his GT63 is actually an interesting story. He bought it new from MB in Russia, and had over 5 visits for a check engine light that was never truly fixed under warranty, and in Russia I guess there is no lemon buyback law and despite having millions of followers, MB didn’t give a f*** about the terrible PR they were getting because the guy was publicly shaming them. Instead they disabled comments on IG and politely told him to basically go f*** himself. And since he’s pretty rich he decided to send a message and light the car on fire as an ultimate F*** You to the brand.
