Hey Henry, what’s your feed mix that goes out to the sheep?
@lockvalleyfarms981
@lockvalleyfarms981 3 месяца назад
3 tonne mix. 1 high density bale of hay 7-800kg, 5-600 kg peas, a little water to keep the chaff down, 100kg of buffer, and the rest is barley.

Hi Henry. Wondering why you don’t plant into moisture. You said you had some moisture 3 inches down in some paddocks. Here (central Queensland) we plant wheat up to 6 inches deep and chickpeas up 8 inches deep to get moisture.
@lockvalleyfarms981
@lockvalleyfarms981 3 месяца назад
If we planted it 2' deep and then got 30mm of rain we would never see the wheat because the top will crust over.

Henry, whilst you're probably in a bit of a conundrum with your seeding programme moving forward with the way the season is running right now, on the flip side, you're keeping us all entertained with what you're up to and the regular explanations of how & why you do what you do, especially with the sequence of your chemical applications. Keep up the great work, bud!! 🙂

Good work Henry. I liked the functions of the Eagle controller but found the wiring harness to my implement not robust enough and it would fail between the tractor and a spray rig for instance.

Great watch mate, really appreciate the quality of your content. Must be difficult farming, family and filming/editing.👍👍

You need a set of atom jets! We farm lower yp, we went from the same point setup like you’ve got currently to atom jets about 5 years ago. Definitely wouldn’t switch back i tell ya!!

Hi Henry I have been in your area and most of the time when I have travelled through its been dry and cold. But with a little rain it is beautiful and green. Thanks for doing the videos I enjoy them.

Let me tell you. Driving a tractor has come a long way since I was doing it as a teenager. I thought it was super cool to get the fancy JD that had a foot pedal to mechanically lock the steering you’d pointed it.

Just need a good 25mm of rain across the state this week be great. Or maybe more like 50mm be even better nice slow and soaking rain. Ill put the order in now

Just asking why don’t you use center pivot irrigation or subsurface drip irrigation? Just a thought
@lockvalleyfarms981
@lockvalleyfarms981 3 месяца назад
South Australia is the driest state on the driest inhabited continent on earth. There is simply no water here to do that. Also, irrigating 2500 acres of crop in our hilly terrain would be virtually impossible. Australia, in general, is majority dryland farming.

Hi Henry. Keen to know how much rain you have had since you made this video. I really hope it's all up & out of the ground for you now. There's been some good rain around recently.

16mm over 2 or 3 events. 70% of the wheat is up. The other 30% has tried sprouting and is sitting in dry dirt. Hopefully we get some of this rain forecast this week and it will survive. Barley looks worse. Some is out of the ground and some hasn't even tried to germinate. Virtually no canola has come up, maybe 10-20% and no beans have emerged yet. Although, it appears most have germinated. Certainly one of the more challenging starts to a season we have had.

@timeddy8779 The Australian combined dought indicator I saw yesterday says that a lot of ag areas in SA are listed as being in exceptional drought, which is the worst possible rating. Definitely a tough time here at the moment, but that's farming.

@lockvalleyfarms981 Tough gig isnt it. I guess you have stopped all seeding by now then. How much do you have in all up?

I'm not a farmer so this might be a dumb thought, but is it possible to use bore water in the sprayer to water seedlings to get them established and keep them going until you get rain?
@JohnW-sv6ov
@JohnW-sv6ov 3 месяца назад
so 1 in of rain on 1 acre 113000 litres you can see it would not be cost affective.
@brett3758

@@JohnW-sv6ov yeah thanks for clearing that up, like i said 'dumb thought'.

In metric 1mm of rain is 1 Lt to the square meter or 10,000Lt to the Hectare, that’s 10 Tonnes of water per hectare.
