I’m so glad to see someone mentioning The Belgariad! There’s a follow up series, The Mallorean. I read The Belgariad in high school when I worked in a bookstore. I was thrilled when they later wrote The Mallorean. I reread both these every few years. They are fantastic.

I LOVE HOWLS MOVING CASTLE MOVIE SO MUCH. I read the book in a lodge during winter next to a fire on a red leather couch when i was 11 or 12 i can't remember but it was a special book during that time. I’m so glad to hear someone talk about David Eddings!!!!!!! He doesn’t get enough love. He’s one of my all time favorite authors, and a go to for anytime I need a comfort read. I also love listening to The Belgariad on audio. I still need to read all the others, though I am halfway through listening to Neil Gaiman narrate Neverwhere and it’s brilliant. I’d also recommend The Graveyard Book by him.

I love the Belgariad! So good! And The Princess Bride is an amazing book! I tried rereading Redwall earlier this year but then I got to a part where someone was on a mission to rescue some people who had been kidnapped. Then he just decides to stop for tea... So I DNF’ed and decided to just stick with my fond memories of reading it as a child.

Thanks for another beautifully well-made video! My daughter, who is 11, watched it with me and I hope she will share the love for books (fantasy ones, especially) with me. I just finished the Fitz and the Fool trilogy and read lots of it for her. She loves writing, but I'm sure she gets lots of ideas from the books I read with her. I just started today another one by Robin Hobb/Megan Lindholm (same person, though) called The Inheritance. They are 10 short stories in different writing styles, as the writer describes it herself. I think I'll enjoy the stories nevertheless. I saw your Farseer trilogy on the shelf in another video, by the way. Just wondering if you have started reading the books... Regards from Australia. 😎🌞

Great list - I will pick up Howl's moving castle because that sounds really interesting. I love Terry Pratchett's discworld series. I have only come to it in recent years and am still working my way through. I haven't read any in order but it doesn't seem to matter much. My favourite ones are the witch ones, and the ones focusing on Samuel Vimes and the City Watch. As for Gaiman, you really need to read American God's (the book is amazing). Happy fall reading 🍁🍁🍁

Great recommendations! "Howl's Moving Castle" is my absolute favorite among Studio Ghibli's movies - and it made me read the book, which I did not regret :) My all time favorite read for fall is (paradoxically) "Winter Rose" by Patricia McKillip. It's absolutely magical and has basically all four seasons described, but in autumn you can really smell the decaying leaves... And my favorite Neil Gaiman's book is "Anansi Boys" :)

I HIGHLY recommend listening to the audiobook for 'The Wee Free Men'; Stephen Briggs brings the characters to life in a very unique and compelling way. (Maybe do a video exploring some of your favorite narrators? Jim Dale and Stephen Briggs are mine). Another book you should read (but changing gears a bit) is 'Till We Have Faces' by C.S. Lewis.

Glad you enjoyed Mort, it's one of my favorites Wait until you get to the Witches they are awesome. Granny Weatherwax is a force to be reckoned with. In terms of Neil Gaiman I'd say check out Stardust and The Graveyard book.

Oh man. Like you, Neverwhere was also my first Neil Gaiman adventure & I went down a rabbit hole of amazing books afterward. Honestly you can’t really go wrong with that man’s works. I’ve never been one to like short stories but Smoke and Mirrors was really awesome!

Howl's Moving Castle is one of my favorite books ever, so I always love to see it get some love.

I'm in the middle of Howl's Moving Castle. I get so hungry when I read especially Harry Potter. The Princess Bride! Is my favourite. It just make me so happy. I just reread the book over and over. Neverwherevus one of the few Gaimsn novels I haven't read yet. They are not always hits for me but there is something completely compelling about his writing. Even though I am not a horror fan, Ocean At the End of The Lane is my favourite by him. Excellent list like always 😀

I just finished the first 2 books of The Mirror Visitor quartet by Christelle Dabos, A Winters Promise and The Missing of Clairdelune (next 2 still not translated) and they gave me such a Gibli feeling, the world is really original, and they feel really cozy but not without some darkness to them. Really recomend.

Gotta recommend Sebastian De Castel because his books are so light and fun.The Greatcoats and Spellslinger series are both great. Also have to recommend Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft

I'm reading the Belgariad for the first time...and I have to agree, it's a perfect book to read in the Autumn weather. I'm loving this series and I wish more people knew about it.

I just finished Neverwhere yesterday, and it is now one of my all time favorites! So bizarre and funny, I really recommend it!

I love Patrick Rothfuss Name of the Wind but a couple of others I favour are Laini Taylor, Daughter of Smoke and Bone and also Stephan R Donaldson's The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant

I’d personally recommend Philip Pullman’s Northern Lights as a cozy read. It’s pretty different from the other two books in the His Dark Materials series and is much more focused on world building and it’s great main character. It doesn’t feel the need to rush things like the other two HDM books and stays enchanting and wondrous throughout. There’s a certain relaxing quality to Pullman’s writing that pulled me in and had me thinking about all the whimsical concepts and spins on existing ideas that were so tightly packed into his Alternate-Universe Oxford. Please do note I’m only recommending Northern Lights and ONLY Northern Lights as a comfy read, the other two books are just as great, in my opinion, but the series quickly expands along with Pullman’s ambition and the story became way more grand from there.

For Neil Gaiman I would recommend Coraline and The Graveyard Book both excellent!

Awesome to see Gaiman get some respect for more then just American Gods(though American Gods is AWESOME), Neverwhere gets no where near enough respect. For David Eddings, I prefer the Elenium over the Belgariad, both are good, but I found the Elenium a little more polished, also Sparhawk's horse kicks ass. If you have read Name of the wind and have not read Slow regard of silent things, I would recommend it, nice short novella on one of the more unusual characters from that series.

I was suprised by how much I loved "Howl's Moving Castle" especially because I thought the movie was just alright. It is one of my favourites and it gives me warm feelings. I didn't like the sequels much though. I need to check "The Belgariad" and I wonder if I should read "The Princess Bride" because I love the movie so much. I would also say "Reaper Man" by Terry Pratchett fits here, since I like it more than "Mort", and "Wyrd Sisters". My favourite books by Neil Gaiman are "Coraline", "The Sleeper and the Spindle" and "American Gods". "The Ocean at the End of the Lane" is also quite good.

I'm watching this at the end of January, but I mean.. You can always enjoy some coziness, right? :D Also I CANNOT believe that I just found out that Howl's moving castle is by Diana Wynne Jones? The first book I ever called my "favourite book" was by her. It was Power of Three, actually. Sadly I don't own it anymore and I don't know if I'd like it as much nowadays as I did back then, but I might just have to get a copy and re-read it. Thank you for making me remember part of my childhood ❤️

It's been a while since I've heard someone talk about the Redwall series. I read it as a child and loved it. I've been meaning to reread them but my library doesn't have them 😢

I actually recommend Stardust and The Ananzi Boys to start out in the Neil Gaiman oeuvre or his collaboration with Terry Pratchett, Good Omens. Another great Pratchett collaboration is The Long Earth.

Even though I tend to prefer darker fantasy, I still adored this video. Great recommendations and I always love your humour.

I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan and some of his ABSOLUTE BEST works that I'd recommend are "American Gods", "Ocean at the End of the Lane", "Good Omens", and "Stardust". All very different stories and 3 of these have been adapted to film or tv in some way. "Ocean at the End of the Lane" and "Stardust" are much shorter and simpler reads and a great small excursion but the other 2 books are probably his best. Also, he co-wrote "Good Omens" with Terry Pratchett.

Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are definitely my go tos for fall. Both the books and the movies. By the way, your seasonal rec videos are my favorite booktube videos.

I’ve just started reading Neil Gaiman and loved his writting!! I read Coraline which I recommend wholeheartedly, it is very different than the movie. I’ll check out Norde Mythology for sure and Good Omens.

For Neil Gaiman books I really recommend Stardust the story of Tristan Thorn who goes to collect a star for the girl he loves. The fantasy world he goes into is so magical and interesting it really made me fall in love with fantasy as a child and I still re read it to this day. The Graveyard Book is also exciting- a bit more halloweeny than cozy. It follows the story of a boy called Bod who is sheltered from his family’s murderer in a graveyard by the resident ghosts. Neil Gaiman is one of my favourite fantasy authors, I’d recommend any book by him!

I recommend The Ocean at the end of the lane and The Graveyard Book. Both are great but The Ocean at the end of the lane is amazing.

Gaiman recommendations: The Graveyard Book is a YA retelling of The Jungle Book, but with the Mogli-esque character being raised by spirits in a graveyard rather than animals in the jungle. Good stuff. Good Omens is a collaboration between Gaiman and Pratchett about an angel and a demon trying to stop the apocalypse. Bonus: a six-episode miniseries adaptation of this book just came out on Amazon this summer, and Gaiman was actually the showrunner for it. Snow, Glass, Apples is a short story retelling of Snow White that might be my favorite thing that Gaiman has ever written.

Not sure if this counts for fall or winter but every year around Christmas I read Hogfather by Terry Pratchett. Death is one of the main characters in this book which is Pratchett's take on Christmas and how all the traditions around it evolved.

Definitely, a book I'd put on this list is the comedic fantasy The Mis-Adventurers an (Almost) Epic Tale by Steven Partridge. Or maybe the Riftwar Cycle by Raymond E. Feist.

I will always recommend Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. I haven't read anything else by them yet but I had a really fun time reading it and enjoyed their combined writing style very much.

Neil Gaiman recommendations - please read The Ocean at the End of the Lane and also The Graveyard Book.

The book I'd recommend is The city of dreaming books by Walter Moers. It is just a fantastic books about books and writing and is one of those books that manage to transport you to the place they're hapenning in entirely. I've never read any author that described scents, especially food that good. Anyways, it's full of mistery, innovative creatures and places, and really funny and one of my favourite books.

The only Neil Gaiman I have read, and highly recommend, is *American* *Gods* . I believe he also wrote the graphic novels/comics *Sandman* which I have always heard amazing things about. My personal favorite Eddings is his *The* *Elenium* and *The* *Tamuli* two back to back trilogies in the same setting, just as *The* *Malloreon* follows up from *The* *Belgariad* . I haven't read any of his stuff in 30 years it seems though, not since the last book of *The* *Tamuli* came out. I would recommend (sticking to Fantasy to start and will have some Science Fiction at the end; I've always read them interchangeably) trying some Stephen R Donaldson, starting with *Lord* *Foul's* *Bane* which is book one of the "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever." It is about a novelist named Thomas Covenant (duh!) who finds himself stricken with leprosy and his life turned upside down and himself a pariah. Not long after he ends up in another world, a fantasy land (this is all in the first couple chapters, and is in most synopsis of the the book). { *TRIGGER* *WARNING* : There is a rape scene early on in the novel; it is not gratuitous at all, and is important to the development of the characters and the plot, and as far as I can recall it is not graphically described). Covenant is not a great (or really even good) man to begin with, he's more of a bitter anti-hero, but his journey, and the world he travels through (The Land), is fascinating. This is the first of the "Dragonlance" novels, which kicked off an entire epic franchise/shared universe of fantasy novels set in a D&D setting. Despite being a licesned setting novel this book, and the next five in the series (the two in this trilogy, the "Dragonlanc Chronicles" and the trilogy "Dragonlance Legends") are actually pretty darned good, and epic as all get out. Try *Pandora's* *Star* by Peter F Hamilton, and its sequel *Judas* *Unchained* . These two books are his "Commonwealth Saga" which is then followed be the "Void Trilogy" which takes place about 1200 years later and then he published another duology called "Chronicles of the Fallers" set between the other two series in time. Best experience is to read them in publishing order (on re-reads chronological order is fine).
