I think a lot of the places like Shatterspear and the mostly inaccessible dwarven farms (there's also one in wetlands hills) or the airstrip are just there to make the place look lived in, not everyone needs the help of adventurers. It helped a lot in creating the atmosphere of an actual world rather than themepark you ride through.
@Hauntedundead
@Hauntedundead Год назад
It has been confirmed by devs (I think at least) that many places which you can view while on the FP but not get to are there to make it so that the player got something to look at. There is many more like the shatterspear village like the plane between the dwarf starting area and Searing Gorge.

A lot of this stuff, like the Troll village and the farms, were added for flight paths. The idea was that you would fly over the world and see all these cool things that you simply couldn't get too and the world would look alive.

It seemed that some of the underwater villages were staging areas to create scenes and then copy to where they are meant to go, some looked incomplete, like unfinished works of art. There are many islands, no need to do them underwater.

The Key to Searing Gorge has an interesting history, it was more important before the FP at Thorium Point, where raiders going to MC would traverse. My perception of early WoW seemed to be a degree of inconvenience such as SM in Horde territory, a degree of difficulty and a greater emphasis of PvP where the top gear was PvP gear rather than raiding gear. There was a turning point where Blizz made things easier for novice gamers to keep their subscriptions rather than spend months designing really hard instances that a low percentage of raiders will see. I think that instance was the Sunwell instance. The hard core gamers called it Welfare Epics. and non-pvp-ers were called carebears.

Fun Fact: The island you water walked to has relevance! In phase 5 for AQ 40. a scepter bearer/scarab lord must open the door for the server after both factions have gathered 100,000s of resources. The quest-line to get the mount and scepter are some of the most rigorous quests line classic and need a guild to support you. Somewhere down the line there's a quest for a Naga and a Gnome to become lovers, after you do so you get a swim spell that lets you swim in fatigue water in order to get to that island and dig up another item.

The South Sea Islands. I remember exploring this. There's a ton of underwater buildings, as well for apparently no use. You could only really see them by using the farsight shaman power and explore the ocean floor. There was also a bottle on one of the islands...though I don't remember if it was a part of the original islands or after the islands got an overhaul. There was a message in the bottle that simply said, "What the heck are you dong here?" Yes, there was a typo in the word "doing" which showed as "dong"...so most players who knew about the islands referred to them as the "Dong Islands".

There is another hidden place: if during Vanilla/Classic you went to the north coast of Tirisfal Glades and started swimming northeast along the coast, you'd eventually come to an area with Night Elf architecture. Just a few empty and abandoned buildings, no NPCs. But it did resemble the NE starting area in feel. This area was later overlaid by Eversong Woods and Silvermoon City, so is now completely gone. There were apparently lore reasons for the village, but evidently before the Blood (or High) Elves were given their own distinctive architecture, so basic NE structures were used. Speaking of Silvermoon City, if you stand outside the city and jump, you can see buildings and towers that do not exist when you actually enter the city.

Not quite. As of 2023, the old Quel'Thalas section is still in the game, altough youll have to go way around the invisible wall/celling to reach it. Yes. 1) The Shatterspear village is visible to Alliance Druids flying home to Darnassus from the special druid zone. I mained NE Druid in classic so I saw it a LOT. (You could teleport to Nighthaven village, then a short flight to Darnassus, while keeping your Hearthstone set to some distant place like Tanaris. Super helpful! Saved HOURS.) ... 2) The Stonetalon mining stuff visible to Ally flying to their one flight point in the zone, if coming from farther north. The flight path was very indirect and time wasting, but still better than going on foot, and it circled around wide and flew right over most of those unreachable buildings and assets. ... 3) I think you could see the Dwarf Farm for a moment on the Horde flight in and out of that pier in Hinterlands. It circled out to sea unnecessarily, giving you an angle briefly. You could also run across it water walking (or shore hugging). Probably every Ally player saw some flight path eye candy on the flight from SW to IF. ... You could VERY easily leave the map bounds in a bunch of places if you simply rode or walked along the shore in places where there was no content at the shore. You could go from Azshara around the shore of Winterspring and Nighhaven to Darkshore, for instance. No secrets there, just boring shore, which did not always match the shape on the map.

So originally the plan was never to make expansions for WoW but just to add and increase the size of the world over time (kinda like WarFrame is going now for example) that is why most of these areas are in the game. Obviously later on blizz changed their minds and did decide to release expansions (weird right, more money and suddenly the plan changed.. :p). In vanilla/BC, as an Alliance player, I went to Shatterspear and all the NPCs were neutral to me. Had a good time partying with them, waving at people on the flight path overhead, spamming /dance and /laugh. I always wished locations like that had NPCs you could interact with, like simple traders who carried something minor but unique (a kind of fruit you couldn't get anywhere else, for example), tiny quests (solve the mystery of the murdered family in the tauren farm south of Silithus, bring some beer to the lonely dwarven farmer, find the pirate treasure in the South Sea Islands), a unique skin for a hunter pet, etc. My favorite secret area was Developer Island, though.

I went to the South Seas islands with my lock without any water walking or swim speed potions... Just was careful to get as close as I could before fatigue started, SS'd myself, created a healthstone, and started swimming straight for it.... Once I was almost dead from fatigue, ate my lock rock, kept swimming til dead... and then popped my SS and swam the rest of the way... wasn't too terribly difficult, tbh...

There could be several reasons to why there is a village in the ocean. It could be that a developer put it there so that one could copy certain elements that were needed multiple times in the map without having to load it in each time. And then they forgot about it. Or it could be that the village used to be somewhere else and then removed temporarily for whatever reason. And then temporarily became permanent and they forgot about it.

You had to go to Dark Whisper Gorge in Winterspring and do a bunch of wall jumping and use the old unstuck method where it teleported you forward (before the Hearth and Graveyard unstuck features). I wish I still had all my pics and videos from when I used to go in there and explore. It was very similar to how it looks now but without any NPCs. The hidden Dwarven farm you mentioned in hinterlands does hold value in the retail version of the game. There's an incredibly extensive chain of events to do that ultimately take you here in the end. This isn't a marked quest series nor are any quests involved. It starts by getting the battle pet Uuna and there's a really long story for her that you and it takes you to various locations including a time only instance that most people have never even seen. By the time you actually finish up this entire chain of events, Uuna will have all of her stuff including her wand. After you complete all that, there's a separate chain of events where you have to go around giving clicking on pebbles in a certain order, one of which is wayyyyyy out in the fatigue zone directly north of Nazmir in zandalar. After you go and find all these pebbles, you will eventually unlock Baal as a fightable battle pet in Frostfire ridge, BUT this is the tricky part. In order to beat Baal, you have to have Uunas story 100% complete and she'll weaken Baal for you to defeat and then claim. AFTER you've done ALLLLLLL that, Baal himself starts the very last of the series and I won't talk too much about it but at the end of this final extensive as fuck puzzle, you finally make your way to that hidden Dwarven farm in hinterlands where after completing a few of the puzzle steps there, you loot a hidden unique, one of a kind transmog appearance called The Waist of Time. This is a tremendously cool tmog and it has no other skins or recolors, it is 100% unique and exclusive. However getting this is...... A VERY lengthy and time consuming task. On a day off I was able to do the entire thing in about 16 hours, and that's flat out no lifing it. I'm talking minimal bathroom breaks and only 2 eating breaks for lunch and dinner. For a normal working person, I wager that this would take a while... A long while 😂😂 But yes, the Dwarven farm does hold relevance on retail at least!

On my mage I crossed from the mountains in Badlands into Burning Steppes, it says Terror Wing Path in the mountains. I did a Slow Fall into a bunch of elite draginkin which were 15 levels above. Later this was impossible because the climbing angle was changed. This was mentioned in the release notes but I forget which.

There's also the landing field close to Ironforge. Normally you fly over it on the way to Menethil harbor, but if you take a secret wall climbing path near the tunnels leading to the wetlands, you can scale your way up there. Also, there's the secret path that you can take if you follow the coast land past Scarlet Monastery. It leads you to an old night elf tower, and some neat land, but if you keep going around to where Quel'thalas is, you can scale the cliff and get into the unfinished kingdom itself. It's all blank save for a single night elf style house near the tree barricade. Another one is an abandoned dock on the other side of the Elwynn mountain range. You can get there by following the coastline from Westfall. Just swim out there from where the murlocs are.

The abandoned "gnome" looking area from the beginning of the vid reminds me of the goblin lumber camps in Stranglethorn. Maybe this was meant to be part of STV but Blizz devs said "wait, the zone is already huge". Or maybe just was meant to be a goblin themed questing area. Or maybe just dev clutter from when they were placing similar assets in STV that never got deleted.

Still amazed people dont know about that hidden spot that once existed in the mountain side you had to clip inside which you would fall into a hidden area under the map where there were critters that gave enough xp to lvl 1-60 in like a few mins and gave 1 gold each back in 2006-7 and at some point people found out and they patched it. Was one of the devs that made the spot for his own xp/gold farm which was leaked and a small % of people counting me found out and used it but it was patched not long after.

The dwarven farm, the troll village, the dwarven airport.. Many of these were added to the game to make the world feel lived in and to give players something to look at while on flight paths through the mountains. They aren’t “Easter eggs” and weren’t planned to be used for further game features, they’re simply decorations for what would’ve been boring empty-looking spots you fly over in the world.

The random building of out of the way often where areas creators used. When creating game areas they would often use out of the way areas to work on ideas. Since you can't get to the stuff by normal means. The troll and dwarf areas were both added as fly over areas much like the airfield by ironforge. The creators added stuff like NPCs in the building I think for their own amusement lol. Or expected people to find their way there... like hyjal pre-cata.

Didn't hear it during the tiger bit of the video, but apparently the reason why we never got an orange tiger is due to the art director having a minor conniption once seeing it in the game, and supposedly sent out an email informing everyone that Nightelves ride, black, purple, or silver tigers but never an orange one.

There were a lot of elements in earlier WoW maps that were reserved for later. For example: Mount Hyjal, Uldum, The Maelstrom, and all the Cata regions were already on the Vanilla map, but just not accessible. It only became accessible in Cata (which leads me to believe that Cata was supposed to be the last canon expansion). All the newer areas - post Cata - were added later. I think that Blizz has had the entire storyline plotted out until Cataclysm. This is evident by looking at the map. With this, they knew that they would include flying mounts in the future and completed parts of the map that can only be accessed by flying, so that they have less work to do down the line.

I’m surprised the Karazhan window shadow world isn’t on this list. You can jump out of a window in Karazhan (if I recall correctly it’s around the repair/rep vendor near the library), land on some roof, and then jump either left or right. One direction leads you to an undeveloped model of Zul’Gurub, while the other direction leads you to an eerie farmland area that features at least one body strung up and hanging from a tree. You can do some more wall-jumping shenanigans at some point in the area and end up on the top of an unpopulated version of Karazhan. It’s wild!

Okay. Im no Expert. But back in my days when we did what they would call "exploit-explore/walljump etc". You would find so much random shit when you went out of bounds. It was simply just Test areas, they never expected people to actually get there. So they sometimes made villages that if they liked em, they could just Copy pasta em in the "real world". When you design something it could be in the bottom of a volcano or the sea, since they don't look at layers. For them it didn't matter, people couldn't get there. So they thought.

#1 hidden farm, wouah, Vaulty, this remind me old memories, you can actually interact with that npc farm dawrf , if you are alliance, as I remember in classic wow , some NPC give you a mark or address you to the nearest class trainer... so, yes, this NPC is one of those, if you ask him where is the nearby class trainer he will tell you is at iron forge and will mark it on map, I don't remember the whole dialogues, cause yes he knows there is no trainer class nearby, but I remember he point me to iron forge. :D

You can access the mountain that ironforge is built under by jumping in NW Loch Modan. Theres a tiny gap in the wall that you can jump up near the tunnel into Dun Morogh, then after wall jumping up, you get access to an area in southern Wetlands, theres a farm with NPCs. Go along the mountain ridge and you can then access the airstrip featured in Cataclysm, and going up to the peak of the mountain is a campfire and a flag.

I was surprised that the secret passageways and rooms in Ironforge were not mentioned. The only way to access them was by hunters. Dismiss pet and stand with left shoulder against door and summon pet. Pet will appear on other side of door. Use spell to see thru and control pet to explore these areas for the 60 second limit on this ability. Unfortunately I can’t remember exactly where this door is as I have not played an alliance toon since WOW’s second year.
