Skinners makes a sockshoe! It's minimalist footwear that's so close to barefoot, it's even more flexible than barefoot shoes. I review these socks and put them to 17 tests. Travel, hiking on a trail, running, even Olympic Lifting! Are they better than Vivobarefoot and Vibrams? How waterproof, comfortable and durable are they? Comment below if you want me to compare them to Powersocks!

You went cold, but I've gone hot. I used Skinners in 100 (F) degree heat on pavement for a 3 mile run. I can confirm that even though the asphalt was probably north of 150, I felt nothing on my feet. I really expected to get burned, but they were well protected.

I have them they are nice and comfortable, protective, grippi, not warm (better wear another sock underneath in case) but I would NOT reccomend them for sports that require high pressure lateral movements and fast changing directions while running, since they tend to move around when subjected to lateral pressure. I also used it for surfskating and they ripped under the lateral pressure that surfskate movements create.

I use those for winter swimming! Good for walking into the lake over rocks. Not my fav for snow, too thin to get protection from the cold.

I've been in Vibrams for 5+ years for exercising, following on from decades of martial arts being barefoot all the time. I'm very grateful for feeling I have very strong feet and ankles from all that as I approach my mid 50's. Strength that will carry me into older age and hopefully keep me active. I'd love to see you test some of the cheaper versions as I may switch between the Vibrams, Vivo and the Skinner type coverings for my feet.

I've been luckily enough to avoid joint or back pain, but my ankles have always been "wimpy." (Runs in the family, apparently). Wonder if these would help. I do go barefoot a lot.

badly shaped shoes have run in a lot of families for generations too. I give a high chance of it being reversible.

There are now new, at least for me here in Europe (Switzerland) also as a half-crew version! Is a bit more comfortable in some activities than the "normal ankle high"... greetings from 🇨🇭🙃

Interesting! The toe part doesn't limit your toes range of motion? The black material seems very rigid and it being applied to protect the toes seems like it could be limiting.

I wore Randy Sun beach socks when I got dressed once. The best part is that the feet are ventilated when wearing the skin-tight socks, which have a 3mm sole. They lived up to their promise of feeling just like bare feet while protecting against cuts and hot sand/hot pavement. I even wore them while shopping at the big box store and the fast food restaurant, and the shoes did great protecting the feet. I felt like the modern descendant of a hippie when wearing sock-shoes and most of us who did the research into 1960s counterculture movement knew it was the barefoot hippies that led to businesses of many types turning away people (some of who were also shirtless or both barefoot and shirtless) with those "no shoes, no, shirt, no service" or "no bare feet" signs, since it was deemed unconstitutional to turn people away based on race...

That was some dedication! Great review. I love walking around barefoot, at least around the house, might give them a try and extend my range. Now... if they somehow manage to stuff some aerogel in these, you could run over lava "barefoot".

If you have enough flexibility in your ankles you should be able to land on your whole foot and not just the heel, right? Lifters just help you to outbalance the lost flexibility, so I guess lifting in barefoot shoes or sox should be ok given your body is adapted to it?

You should compare the cheaper ones and also try Kytin Parasoles. They're socks with a rubber sole on the bottom, I don't know if they'd work as barefoot shoes substitutes because they do have kind of a structure to them.

If u try to return those, at least in my case, they go back to Slovakia. It will cost half the cost of those shoes to send back. Mine came back. I liked the idea, but my feet got clammy right away, they slap louder, and shifted around when running. I use Xero shoes because they fit and v five fingers. Funny, it's still hard to find barefoot running shoes in extra wide, me EEE. 😔 Awesome video btw. Keep up the great work.

You clearly got the wrong size. You're supposed to size them as snugly as possible since they're socks after all. Also wearing them without socks should eliminate slipage if the sizing is right.
