If you know much about the history of the West Coast Trail
you’d know that it was used by native villages as travel and trade routes for thousands of years prior to Europeans showing up.
In more recent history, this stretch of the west coast was part of what was known as the “graveyard of the pacific”. Since the 1700s there were thousands of ships sunk due to the unpredictable weather, the misty and rugged coastline, and currents from adjacent rivers, which all made this area difficult to navigate. This was why the early 1900s saw the development of this route, which then was coined the Dominion Life Saving Trail. It's purpose was to aid the survivors of shipwrecks with a way off of the perilous coast.
The trails development began from the north side, and was slowly making it’s way south when the war interrupted its progression. By the time the war had ended however, there was much less use in finishing the partially constructed trail due to the invention of radar and the use of radio to navigate ships. That is why you’ll see all types of mechanical debris on the trail ranging from cables, pieces of shipwreck ,and the massive donkey engines left behind by logging industries.
We are so excited to share our experience on the trail with you. It was an incredible and eye opening experience and I hope you enjoy the footage of all of the ups and downs of our journey!

I’ve finally found a RU-vid explorer who doesn’t cringe me out. You’re the tits! Thanks for being real about periods and edibles. This is 💯 my vibe, it’s really hard to not come off Chessey in these videos and you’ve nailed just being yourself and cool. I do a lot of bike packing too, sometimes with my boyfriend. It’s good to have balance. Enjoy yourselves x

Hahah thanks holly! Honestly the gross and uncomfy parts of the trip are always as important as the “beautiful” parts I think 😅 enjoy your adventures!

I’ve hiked the trail from North to south and definitely would recommend that direction more. You’re amazing for doing it from south to north. The boulder area to the south is no joke with a super heavy pack! Oh the pea gravel! Pea gravel was the worst.

Hi Jenna what are your thoughts on hiking shoes vs boots?
@jennalexisko
@jennalexisko 5 месяцев назад
Being that it was relatively “dry” when we were on this trail I think I could’ve gotten by (and been comfier) in some good trail runners but this particular trail is known for being wet and rainy and very muddy and had I been caught in that type of weather i would’ve been a lot better off in my boots I think (mine are scarpa backpacking boots)
