Just Passing Thru - A Pacific Crest Trail Film

In 2022 I thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail... here's how it went.
I credit this entire adventure to the amazing people I walked alongside, the trail angels who were more generous than I thought possible and the amazing trail crews from the PCTA. A film could never capture the epic scale of this thing, but I hope to give just a glimpse into the world that is thru-hiking. Please watch in HD or 4K.

Courtney, I am 81 and spent a lot of time hiking and backpacking, even now my wife and I get out when we can. I live in Ferndale, WA Years from now, you will remember what you achieved as a young person. Be grateful for your youth and health and achievements and for having the technology to share it with us. The world is a wonderful place and you still have ,God willing, many adventures ahead of you. Cheers, Frederick "Rik" Spector

I’m 71 years old and just starting my dream of hiking the PCT. Worked 45 years as an ICU / ER Nurse, married 48 years, two sons and 5 grandchildren . Now it’s my time to do what I’ve always wanted to do. I am one year post two knee replacements. Last week I did my first 4 miles on the PCT. Next June, I will be 72 years old, hiking with my 71 yer old brother on the PCT. I am very excited to start my new journey.

@@Vggfdd-kj9kj It is NEVER too late to change. ive been homeless for most of my life due to my family. Unfortunately i had to cut them off and go out on my own. but you meet many great people on your journey. ive now built my house from the ground up. its 10x20 and by no means is it fancy, but its a long way from where i was just 5 years ago. sometimes the hardest thing to do is to start, but its always worth it in the longrun

"And then it's done, your footprints washed away in the rain." When you're older young people will start to ask...what does it feel like to be 50? or 60? or 80? To me it feels like this, you're walking the trail and there are glorious moments and painful ones and the further along you get the more you want to see thru to the end but you feel the bittersweet longing for the excitement of when you started. The wisdom that comes was hard earned but worth the pain and you know as you watch loved ones cross over we were only ever meant to be passing thru.

Incredibly beautiful your film, especially your ending thoughts on reaching Canada. As a young person I also had a yearning to hike, unfortunately the closest I came was a month long ride across country on a motorcycle and a tent plus various artist in residence in various countries. Those memories are always with me at 61 years young. There is a saying in spanish that is “que me quiten lo bailado “ “take away from me the dances” Is a saying relating to the end of life as you look back and only have your memories, and you will definitely have amazing memories. Thank you from Miami for this beautiful film.

Young lady, I want to thank you for making and sharing your video. I’m sure it took a lot of time to put together. Last night I was stressed out. Bills, career, cars, wife, kids, clutter around the house, all the trappings of a western life had pushed and built up around me. I went for a 5 mile run, took a nice cool shower, cracked a cold beer and somehow stumbled across your video. I watched a bit, felt my mind drift off to my home state of California and faded to sleep. This morning I made my coffee and sat in the big chair to watch the rest. I could literally feel the stress continuing to drain out of my body as I watched the rest of your story. I’ve never done the PCT or any long distance hike like that, but it has tickled my imagination for years now. Someday, someday I will join you and the others to earn that hiker smell, look down at my worn down shoes, endure a sore body and the store away memories of sights and experiences that will travel with me for a lifetime, just as they do for you. Thank you again. All the best. Brian

And though it's changed who you will be forever, the trail won't remember you. Because after all, you're only ever just passing thru". What an emotional and bittersweat ending. There are also some other PCT-Documentaries with stunning visuals (for example the one of Titouan Le Roux). But, besides the music, it's your story-telling and voice-over that makes this one really special. Dear LittleLisa, ANY age is a 'good' age to enjoy Life 'outdoors'; However, at 48, You are at a 'great' age to get 'on trail', (considering normal levels of 'maturity, knowledge, health, etc.), IF Your 'particular' circumstances allow it. 'Age' is just 'One' factor in your Personal equation, and it isn't My place to "Direct 'The Steps' " (Proverbs 16:9) of Your 'precious' Life, as given by none other than your Creator God, Who made You for The Purpose of 'Getting to Know HIM', and 'Worshipping' HIM, 'In The Midst' of His Created 'Universe'; Inwhich, I Would say 'Earth', but it would be an absolute Shame to leave out the billions of galaxies of stars & multiplied millions of other celestial bodies, which He also has made to Reveal & Declare His Glory. ~ Ps.19:1-4... ~ Seeing that ALL of mankind are uniqully 'Different', Except that we are ALL 'sinners', who are Loved by The Savior, Jesus Christ, Who Lived, Suffered, Died, and Rose Again, (... to 'Pay-in-Full' the price of our sins...); Creating us in His Own Image, and for His Own Glory; Who, Alone, is Worthy of our Praise. At least, take some shorter trips (section hikes) and get a fresher taste of what The Lord of Glory, Jesus of Nazareth, and The Christ of Calvary has given us to enjoy, while on our Pilgrim adventure, on a tiny piece of His Created Universe, we call 'Earth'; until He Comes, or Calls His family home to Heaven; That is ... Those, who are 'Born Again', by His marvelous Mercy & Grace, to acknowledge His Goodness and Truth. If not already, May You come to Know Him, as 'Your' 'True & Living' GOD (OmG) and Be Comforted with His Peace (JOHN 14:1-3, 27 (16:33) / I JOHN 5. As I noticed, you filmed a lot on DJI Osmo Pocket (beautiful cam). I got it after watching Elina's videos and, as for me, it is probably the best camera for such kind of filming.

Thank you so much! I love Elina’s work and was definitely very inspired by her 😊 yes, the DJI pocket is great, and so easy to just load all your footage into the cloud when you get to town or watch it back on your phone!

After finishing with lots of fire flopping my partner and I stayed at Dougs. He is such a kind soul, it gives me so much joy to hear his name in your video. Thank you for posting such a beautiful summary of your hike, creators like you really help with the post trail depression and loneliness.

I met a woman who had walked , with a group, across the U.S. for a cause, just after she had completed the trip. She was glowing, beautiful in the realest possible way. I saw that in you as well, and feel so enriched by the adventure you've shared. May you have many more grand adventures! Thanks also for the amazing music.

Amazing. What a beautiful journey... I feel like an adventure like this is a metaphor for life. All the excitement at the beginning, the ups and downs in the middle, and the gratitude at the end that the Universe gave you a chance to experience it. Thank you for sharing this.

I walk nearly daily in the local cemetery, and sometimes I go over to the corner where all the babies are interred, and when you start reading the accounts of one day lives, and one month lives, and one year lives, it makes me think of everything you just wrote about the gratitude and the incredible gift of years that those of us around to Muse about it have been given .. I usually can’t spend very much time there because it’s so overwhelming that so many never had a chance to experience all of the things that the rest of us who get decades do…

My husband and I hiked the AT in 2019/2020. We experienced it from so many perspectives as hikers. We started out thru hikers, did some sections, and day hikes as family called us home before we finished. Your film reminded me of so many of the events of our own journey. Wonderful job capturing the sentiment of what it means to be a wanderer. Happy trails wherever your path takes you!!

I’ve been dying to get into thru hiking like this after months of watching videos, training for distance runs and weightlifting for years. I have a 2 year old and I wonder if I’d be able to do this with her. Either way, how do I get into something like this? Where do you even meet people who enjoy stuff like this? I’m too afraid to go alone. I have plenty of friends, just we are all “city people” lol. They don’t like to do stuff like this. But what an inspiring video!!!
