Thanks for inspiring me and others to get out more and enjoy the outdoors. I appreciate your videos as do others. I will build up my stamina and endurance to conquer long trips like these.
Thanks siliilith! The long trips are such an amazing experience. There is nothing like embarking for a long distance trip and just losing yourself in the experience!
Good stuff! "C'mon Bessie!" when you got stuck ;-). Some good little runs in there. As you said, too bad about so many dams...would be great to see that river in its natural state.
I don't think that can count as a swim- he was already out of the boat. I love the narrative in these videos- they're so calm and relaxing! Thanks for sharing these journeys with us.
I vote no swim for Austin. That was a slip. In boxing it wouldn't be ruled as a knockdown, but as a slip. This video kept me on edge of seat on the technical stuff and those damns looked like some work. Great vid.
There's a real nice set of rapids underneath old Liberty road bridge in Central falls. But cannot be seen because of the impoundment of Cox lake dam. I've seen the rapids one time in the early 90s when I draw the water down.Central falls gets it's name because it's in between the rapids of Randleman and Cedar falls.
Beautiful footage of the river, love Austin is sporting Gatewood's Remote design merchandise. Pete and fellow paddlers on this adventure are making memories and keeping my dream alive of someday paddling my Yukon up in NC. Keep on paddling and keep them swimmer bells down, especially the ones that are maybe a slip and not a flip...
Really have enjoyed your videos for a wile now, i bought me a kayak a few mounts ago but due to health problems I could not get out but now my doctors have give me great bill of health so aim gearing up to enjoy the great rivers. Thank you again for the inspiration. OH How do i get a sticker??
Well...I guess when one sets out on an adventure, an adventure one will have. I love the trips that end up having interesting obstacles to overcome. Makes for some great memories and stories to tell. Great vid!
All kidding aside, I spent the evening reviewing the archives for a precedent. And there is at least one-Jerry Yang was awarded a swimmer bell when he slipped exiting his boat at the river bank. My ruling, therefore is “DING”!
I know this instance you're referring to and that was MUCH deeper water....he fell backwards and was submerged. Very different than what happened that day on the Deep.
@@RiverKingsKayak I grew up right below Randleman in asheboro. That rock store that you guys stopped at that was closed, about made me cry. They had the best food in that area! And just the memories filled me with joy!
After watching it again On instant replay I have awarded him the most prestigious award the swimmers bell 💥💥💥💥 to all those other un graceful exits from their kayaks we can add one more 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💦💦💦 thanks for another awesome adventure river kings 💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦
lots or dams. Were they all built for mills? I've seen a few stories about dam removal on rivers up in the Northeast. What's the attitude toward removal of these small dams in North Carolina?
Some of these small dams still generate electricity -- albeit a small amount and are privately owned. They have not made a profit but the owners are eternally optimistic and as such they remain.
Catching up on these. Y’all are definitely earning it. Looks like a great trip so far! For your tow line with carabiner, is that a 3/32 or 7/64 UHWPME? Just curious.
I had to rewind it to see it again... I have to say that looked a bit more like a slip than a swim...BUT it did have pretty much the same result, so I am going to say that one could go either way.
absolutely a swim. The subject had not completed the process of exiting the boat, and thus the act of becoming submerged in the water mid-rapid counts as a swim
@@SideTrailAdventures when exiting a boat, one must complete the venture in control. Falling into the water regardless of depth results in...the bell. Many before you have suffered this fate...you had on leg in the boat wen calamity struck
We all know the elusive Yukon is the best boat for these trips, but for those of us that don't have the resources and patience to track one down you ought to share with us which boats you would consider to be runner ups.
@@joshinfwtx4506 Pedro is probably correct, But I put the Necky through everything it could handle, and Optimus is still hanging on my wall- the Dagger has a Skeg, But- the Necky has a Rudder... 14.5 is the Length you want for a week long unsupported paddle....
Haha, no that wasn't a swim. The body has to be moving with the current or not purposefully attempting to get in or out of the kayak to make this a technical swim. I'm giving a pass on this one - if only to give myself a pass for when this happens to me, lol...
@@RiverKingsKayak Well, I suppose it was deep enough to swim in theory, but it looked more like unintentionally choosing an unconventional place to sit to me. Ha ha.
@@RiverKingsKayak okay, I'll give you that. And by the way, great video. I really love your kayak camping trip videos. A buddy and I are kayaking the entire length of the Wisconsin. We started at the source and have made about 160 miles so far.
@@RiverKingsKayak well come on up! There are plenty of awesome sections. Small creek size sections, large big river sections with sandbar camping, and plenty in between. Unfortunately, most of the whitewater has been drowned under reservoirs. But still lots of great paddling.
