Just upgraded from a 2008 Scion XB, which lasted me 16 years to a 2023 Corolla Cross. I bought the budget model that came with plastic hubcaps, no roof-rack and no light signals on the mirrors. However, it has cream colored seats and I threw on some chrome and black Indy rims. Added some chrome trims on the handles and mirrors and I gotta say, it looks twice the price. Elegant ride too. I am not a fan of the Eco and steer assist modes. Where I live, the roads can be chaotic and quick reflexes are a must. Glad I can deactivate them but not totally. Other than that, the ride is really smooth almost like flying over the road on wings. A+.
I rented one in Cape Town- 1.8 l hybrid model with consumption at below 5 l / 100 km even with brisk driving. This is realistically all the car most people really need.
I'm glad the review highlighted the issue of having a smaller gasoline tank. Hybrid battery has to go somewhere and it looks like the gas tank was shrunk to give space to a portion of the hybrid battery. Will be an annoyance for sure to some.
400 mile range is about 15 miles less than the Subaru Crosstrek, main competitor... Crosstrek has a 16.6 gallon tank. I think. Let that sink in, it's the capacity and the efficiency TOGETHER that count, so you just need to comfortable with filling up a bit closer to zero but remembering that you are still MILES from running out of fuel.
Another downside is the back seats that fold 60/40, that's as cheap as it gets! Why not 40/20/40 or at least a ski hatch in the middle seat. Even some regular non luxary brands had that 20 years ago and they didn't even mentioned it, poor.
I wish they would just make a smaller version of the rav 4, it's too big for me but the corolla cross just seems like a huge step down in everything, not just size.
Great review: a couple of corrections/points: 1) Awesome that you pointed out what every other reviewer has missed: you can shift with the gear lever, you don’t need paddle shifters (I prefer using the lever, since I drive stick) 2) The SE *does* have paddle shifters, standard. Only the S comes without them. Really appreciate the sound check and your website with the master list. Would love to know what the 2023 vs 2024 Subaru Crosstrek sounds are, since Subaru has done a lot of marketing on how the new Crosstrek is more quiet.
So glad to hear you're utilizing the website sound level readings! It was quite the task to get them all on there but we finally finished this week 😅 A 2024 Crosstrek review should be coming soon!
i have the corolla cross with 2.0 gas engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 47 MPG.(i think i beat most Cross hybrid drivers lol) i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG. i fill up around 8-9 gallons which gives me about 375-420 mile range, so i don't feel you need to constantly stop for gas.
@@namvet1968 If you want to get to a business meeting in a different town without having to shave again once you arrive, you may want to drive above 100 km/h, which is 60 mph ;)
fully optioned, here in Seattle, the build comes to $35,500. For $7K more (I know that sounds like a lot but when you factor in the doable increase in the monthly payment) you can get an almost fully loaded RAV4 that gets just a couple mpg less but a bigger tank equalling a longer driving range. I would also assume that the resale might be a wee higher with the RAV. I drove both and ended up buying a fully optioned RAV4 SXE. This is a Great review!
I think people looking here mainly are not wanting to pay the $7000 more or they would be looking at the car you already have. Not sure why your would come here to post about a more expensive car. Bragging or a dealer trying to encourage bigger sale.
Then again for a few more $, you could get an NX hybrid which has a higher status label and better service :). Plus the Rav4 is going to be replaced with a newer model soon and the current model will look dated. Enjoy your car. I am just messing with your analogy.
FWIW, I’m seeing 61.8 cubic inches with the seats down when I check volume specs online. Which makes sense, the back seat is smaller than the RAV4, it wouldn’t make sense to get up to the same storage capacity as the larger model.
Has anyone heard of the engine stalling? There were several reports of this with the 2023 model. I did a test drive recently and the brake was quite stiff. At one point, i did a hard brake and heard a sound as if for a quick second there the brake was stuck. I’m really annoy at the stop and go. I didn’t know it has that feature until it kicks on during test drive.
Just got my black xse hybrid 2 weeks ago had to wait only 3 weeks, they tried selling me on a white one but I told them I wasn’t in a rush even though black color is sought after
We agree. Unfortunately, we don't have any control over what they give us and apparently most people prefer plain black interiors vs lighter colored ones
I actually saw the paddle shifters at 7:12, 7:20, and 7:44. Now that I've used them in my Crosstrek, I search them out in other cars I'm considering for the near future.
I don't understand why your mileage was that low. The only thing i can think of is that you did way more highway than city driving. I do mostly city driving and average right around 42mpg. I also am the only person in the car 99% of the time, so there is no extra weight from a passenger. Maybe that has something to do with it ?
If you can actually find a new one on a Dealer's lot, expect to pay far more than $30K. Oh, especially if you want the hybrid version! Good luck getting one of those! Though not as bad as a Honda HR-V. Currently every single one in America is pre-sold before it reaches Dealers lots. Want something you can find and even be able to haggle? Perhaps getting 5% off MSRP? Go for a Dodge Renegade. Those are easier to find than a crooked politician in NYC. And I've lived in NYC since 1979. Just sayin'....
At 37 mpg and a 10.6 gallon tank your range should be well over 300 miles which is average range for most cars. I get about 400 miles per fill up on mine.
Oxalate smoothie (oxalic acid from raw kale and other greens) on a daily basis - no thanks! Berries smoothie occasionally (except raspberries which are very high in oxalic acid) - yes
Fully agree. I had the chance to drive a coworkers last week. Was shocked at how bad it was overall. Fisher Price level interior. Uncomfortable seats. Back up camera quality from 2010. Noisy engine. Rough ride. Horrendous visibility all around. It's Toyota, so it will probably last forever. But I could never put myself through this misery of having to drive this every day.
I really like your channel and have subscribed, but I wonder why out of all your 1,000+ reviews there is not one for MINI. Are there no MINI dealerships in Kentucky to work with?
That's exactly right. The nearest Mini store to us is about 3 hours away in TN and they've never given us a press loan Mini either. Thanks for being a subscriber!
if you average 15k miles a year it will take about 3-3.5 years to break even on the hybrid corolla cross vs the ICE model. well worth it considering the average person keeps a car more than twice that amount of time.
@@roberthousehold6223agreed, unfortunately, i drive around a little over 15K a year due to the area i live in, so i decided to finally get one of these.
That tiny gas tank is a no for me. I need 500 miles before the the refill light comes or I’ll stay with what I’ve got. My Ford Cmax PHEV has great range but no modern ADAS.
@@ofcbob6391 At MSRP. I could have had one at $3000 above MSRP (ridiculous!), another at MSRP but they undervalued my trade, and a third at MSRP and they gave me a fair trade in value. But I had to drive two hours (Washington State) to get it.
Boot size is not the same, Corolla cross has smaller boot, comparing to rav4 both expanded and retracted back seats. Both are great cars, though CC is just one size smaller than Rav4 in everything.
Oh, the small gas tank and lack of a spare tire might be a deal breaker for me. I might consider the RAV4 Hybrid or CRV Hybrid (love it but kind of too big).
Is this a new grill? Every corolla cross I have seen has the grill higher in the front bumper and the badge is inside the grill. Or maybe the non hybrid versions have a different front.
Its funny how the lowest spec in Europe is basically the TOP spec in the US. Since you CANT buy a Cross without it being a hybrid and also all have a full digital gauge cluster. Thats literal joke of a cluster you have there.
I'm wondering what model is that, the front bumper is quite different from the European models, the grill is lower here and the badge is not in the grill, while in the corolla cross I can find in Europe have the grill higher and the badge is inside the grill. However i find this one more attractive than the regular grill.
@@Venakis1 youre right, the grill is slightly different here in EU. I was just surprised that you guys still have regular gauge clusters in the States. On the other hand, the car is a lot more expensive here. Starting at around 32k USD.
@@vitkrivan9380 I'm from Greece pal, here for the 2 liter base hybrid Corolla Cross you need 32k€. There is indeed no option for non hybrid version but I think that the hybrid is the best option anyway. From the exterior looks I prefer the american version with the blacked badges and the lower grill, it looks more aggressive than the european model.
@@Venakis1 oh, I get it now ;). but you're absolutely right, buying a Toyota without it being hybrid seems pretty pointless. Ive just purchased the new Rav4 hybrid, so Im very much looking forward to delivery.
Do not buy this thing. The 2022 had major CVT issues. The cam driven vacuum pump sound makes the engine sound like it has a lifter problem. This vehicle does not match up to the reliability the Toyota name has had in the past.
We need a vid about the best Bimmers!!! And if you complaining about the price of a car, you’re probs poor asf and can’t afford a Bimmer anyway! Buy one for me boo boo! Sorry not sorry!!!!
