In October 2019, we enjoyed a week-long Hawaii vacation on the Big Island. This was not our first visit, but we did bring some family members to experience the island for the first time. As a kanaka ma’oli the story you speak of Captain Cook is one that is not often told from a native perspective. As you idolize him know that the reason he was killed was like of the Aztec conquest and the Spanish conquest to gold. When we were “Supposedly Discovered”? he and his navigation crew raped and killed our poe or People. In less then 100 years after his arrival extinction occurred on all islands to birds and mamals and life you can no longer see but in a book. Our people were killed off from diseases we had no immunity at all from. 1,000,000 hawaiians Genocided by the EUROPEAN CONQUEST for discovery diseases of all types which ravaged our people and land that was STOLEN. Russia was to be ally to our monarchy like the czars but that never occured both were killed off or the exile for some. On Kauai today there is a Russian fort please know I appreciate this video but know the history of our people understand what has occured. And when you visit hawaii for the Paradise you and others assume there is a dark history to it - Aloha

Great video! I haven’t been back to the Big Island in forever and I’m down the block on Oahu. Even though you weren’t able to get up to Mauna Kea I thought that was a great opportunity to cover the protest. Hope next time you come you get to get up there. Great job Martin on the handheld shot! Looked clean and sharp. Great camera tips and techniques you guys shared too. Quick questions. What camera straps or carry systems do you guys use while traveling? What lenses do you find most useful on trips? Mahalo!

Black Rapid R-Straps have been our favorites for years, but lately we also like the Peak Design wrist strap + Cotton Carrier strap when using hiking bags. Mid-range lenses are our favorite for travel -- the 18-55 for Fuji is what we use 90% of the time.

Thank you for a great informative video. I really enjoyed watching you guys. I know this was 2019, but seeing as petrol (gas) is over 7.5 dollars per gallon in UK, I would be very glad to pay under $5 per gallon in Hawaii!

Thanks so much for this truly amazing video..😁🤗 this brought back memories of when my husband and I spent 3wks in a condo on Ali’i drive in April of 2019..we are going back to the same condo for 4 wks in April of 2022..❤️ the big island...❤️ from 🇨🇦

I googled about Cook being eaten and all the reports I read said he was only dismembered and burnt. What souce says he was eaten?

The gekko? Yeah, they are there. Rented a house on Hilo side and host said they are the "pest control". Great tip on cooking your own food. Save not only $s but time as well. 👍👏 just not a fan of going to Hawaii to sit by a pool overlooking the ocean 😉😄
