Have you tried the light test at night? At night when I crouch down with a torch on the wall, I'm at about 26% visible, when I take the torch down and I'm in pitch dark, it drops to 3% visible. Not sure if any of what I said is relevant or not lol. Thumbs up!

It's already known that it affects zombies locating the player, but he was testing if it attracted zombies indirectly. Zombies only seem to react to the player, as this test would suggest. He even proved that screamers spawned from heat in your base will target the player and not the source of heat itself.

It’s been my experience since the patch dropped that sounds and lights not directly associated with the player do not attract zombies. Only lights and sounds used by and made by the player attract them. However, they will investigate your base if your heat map is very high.

It seems to me that the noise and sound activates the zombies to explore 'more' though not necessarily directly at the source. The data suggests that sound and light agitate the zombies.

Good info Capp! Kinda interesting they are not aware of noises because I could swear they are attracted to vehicles. Have you tested vehicles? I thought they were attracted to the sound of vehicles.

Thanks bud. That one would be very hard to test because vehicles don't run if you aren't in them. So there isn't really a way to see if they are attracted to the sound of the vehicle and not the person driving it.

1. A top down perspective would be better. I’ve seen another tuber move the camera and then the whole body in 3rd person. Making yourself a sneaky underground chamber would eliminate them seeing you, right? Crouch once you make sure your lair is big enough for some error in placement. 2. Another idea: Testing how far under ground you have to go and be unnoticed(your head one block underground, two blocks, three, five, seven, nine, 10, 15, and so on.) the idea is to see if there’s a valid difference. 3. You say blood moon horde knows where you are regardless? Could you build a chamber of horrors sorta speak before your first blood moon horde? Ex, a long trap where it’s most convenient to funnel the said zombies into traps. They’re attracted to doors, don’t use them. 3a. Make a y shaped corridor, that you can sit at the junction and pepper them. 3b. I’m thinking 3 blocks down is sufficient as long as the area around you is concrete vs sand over your head and the top of the Y is open to the the zombies pathing. The bottom is covered in concrete but has traps you turn on as you exit. A oh shit exit zombies won’t take

I'm wondering if it is a distance thing in the opposite way one might think. Zombies up close knows eviromental light or sounds means nothing but ones further away will walk towards it. Like light have an attraction effect between 20-100 blocks, or something. And not a strong aggro attraction but just sets them walking in that direction. And stops doing anything once they reach 20 blocks.

Not in A17. Rocks have been a way to distract zombies for a long time, so I didn't see them changing that.

It would be nice if that was a weapon, but unfortunately, the rocks don't hit them hard enough to do any damage so I guess throwing the rocks for distraction is a better idea. 🧐😄 I will be doing my own rock throwing test to see for sure in A17 though. 😊

Hi Cap, a late comment :) Been using the auger to remodel my base and noticed heat climbs differently according to location and material. Remodeling my base on the surface using auger, concrete blocks increase 0.20 heat, metal 0.30 while pick axe does 0.10 and 0.00. On the underground part of my base metal raised 0.5 and concrete didn't raize heat and pick axe had no effect on heat in metal. My base is inside a city, tbh idk if it's in the countryside if the effects are the same.

Can you do a test of the night effectiveness of Night Vision Goggles and the Mining Helmet? I loved the NVGs in alpha 16, zombies seemed to have more difficulty detecting you compared to the mining helmet. In the unstable A 17, the NVGs just turned the screen green and didnt help you see anything. Is that still the case?

Good test Capp. But I think I remember a while back in previous alphas that they are attracted to the sounds the player makes, like opening chests, building and using augers. Has that changed? 🤔😊

Do torches or candles worked differently? The descriptions for them say that they'll attract zombies, but I don't know if that means they'll move towards them, or just heat generation.

Both, but torches generate heat at a faster rate than candles.

If they hear the sound of you hitting the tree, they will come towards it until they see you.

so everything which is running by an generator dont attract zombies. but torch light dont attract them as long u arent holding it xD. but the title could be missunderstood. i thought about every kind of sound and light. my question would be: if i miss a shot with my bow (bow or crossbow) why they running to me and not to the arrow what actually did the noise. trying some stuff now to getting these sirens out of my ear. peace out! :D

I have a base, the floor is 6 blocks up from the ground. No windows, no doors open. I just turn on a generator bank and zombies get attracted to my base! Idk if it was the engine's noise or what.

I doubt the generator alone would be the problem, but don't forget zombies can hear and smell (hint: delicious meat), and investigate the area. Also zombies like doors, it's just in their instincts... As far as I know

It's strange because I've had lights on and I've mad no noise and they've come right to me ( I was hiding and they couldn't see me ) .what about sound from augur and chainsaw

Interesting. Bit of a shame as it'd be cool to set up pits & traps with a siren activated by motion sensors, but it's not to be. Ah well. Have you thought of doing a FAQ vid with a description/walkthrough of all the little tricks you use? (God Mode, No Clip Mode, Zombie stats, Heat indicator etc). Then you can just refer any question in the comments to the FAQ vid instead of answering the same questions over and over. Ask your Followers/Subscribers to Tweet/Comment their questions so you can give plenty of coverage.

Not yet. The Fun Pimps (developers) are in a legal battle with TellTale to retain the publishing rights for the console version of the game. once they retain the rights, they can start working on updates.

Maybe you should test with you making noise by hitting diffrent thigs inside a inclosed space to where they cant see you but possibly hear you?

That would be really hard to test, if not impossible, since they don't have different levels of attraction. They either are, or are not. I can look into it though.

@@michaelchristy7806, Yes hitting metal attracts more than hitting wood. You can see your stealth meter go up heaps more when hitting metal than wood.

@@capp00 When you crouch the value in the stealth meter is your chance of the Zombies detecting you based the light levels and the sound you are making. So to test, just crouch in a dark place and see what effect hitting different blocks has on the value in your stealth meter.

i already know from everything ive seen that zomz in 7d2d are attracted to sounds. all cpu npcees are blind just like the ones in skyrim, so sound is how they get attracted. i still play alpha 10 and zemz go apeshit when they hear me open my storage chests :) if you ever wanna have fun, go play skyrim with zero sound, ie muffle spell and full stealth perks everything at super maxxed out, and you can walk right up to dragons, giants, anything lol!

I do hate that the simple lights you can use only show light when you're at a certain distance.... torches do better at lighting up an area from a distance better than the simple lights do.... wheres the logic there??
